OUT OF TOWN....I'll be on vacation for the next few days, but I've roped in a couple of wonderful guest bloggers to handle the site while I'm gone: Hilzoy from Obsidian Wings and Shakespeare's Sister from her eponymous blog. I expect them both to raise the tone around this place a bit, so treat 'em nice, OK?
Unfortunately, this means that I'll miss the Iraqi elections on Thursday while Marian and I are out sightseeing. Here's hoping that they go well.
I'll be back on Monday. See you then.

Have a nice time. Post your pix when you get back.

If you went sightseeing in Iraq, you wouldn't miss the elections AND you'd have a holiday.

I hope Shakes' Sis is recovered from whatever ailed her today.

Floop: Nobody around here has been deleting your posts. Maybe you forgot to press the "Post" button?
Link: Shakes says she's fine. She'll be blogging up a storm.

Gah. I see the Washington Monthly editors have decided to abuse their readers even more by adding flash-based, animated ads.

Woot! Hilzoy!
Someone who certainly deserves a wider audience.

I second what Simp said. Wise choice.

Kevin: no problem - they've been disappearing around a day later...
Funnily enough, I did realise the importance of the 'Post' button :)
(...hits 'Post' button...)

Kevin,
Did you not get my email volunteering to be a guest blogger? I mean really, should I have to email you 17 times about this? Just...let me know or something.

WaPo this morning: "Speeches on Iraq Balance Resolve and Realism"
That's their actual headline, in both the print and online versions. Online, it's the top headline on the front page, and in the print version, it's above the fold.
And yes, they're talking about Bush. I'm not sure what sort of alternate reality the WaPo has moved to, but especially after the Harris/Froomkin dustup, they couldn't do more to say to the world, "We're Suckups."

How convenient.
Kevin is away during the Iraqi elections so that he won't have to comment on a remarkable foreign-policy success the US is having under the hated GWB.
Oh, we love to snark, but when truly monumental events occur, bringing democracy and hope to millions in the Middle East, we cut and run for a few days to avoid having to either eat crow or praise GWB.
Cut and run. Typical of you and those you support.

I agree with Fred. Why can't you be like the rest of America and plan your vacation around the Iraqi elections?

Hee.

Oh boy, I always love the abuse the regulars give the guest posters. Kind of gives me a vacation, too.

Are you planning on renaming the blog? I'd hate to be confused.
Also, regarding the flash based ads.... What J said.
Luckily, those of us with Firefox and adblock merely c-sh-F them away.

... people like us and President Admad are voted into power. ROCK THE VOTE!

Have you ever notice that when Kevin Drum goes away and he lines up guest bloggers and then something happens and he just has to log in and put up his own post anyway (not that there is anything wrong with that)...
I look forward to seeing what entices you to post while you are "away"

Also, Brad DeLong became the Big Pajama yesterday when he picked up the phone and called Wanker Harris. I would suggest you could become the Bigger Pajama Still if you would FOIA the FBI & DoD for their records on the TLB ecosystem:
1.Instapundit.com
2.Michelle Malkin
3. Markos Moulitsas & Daily Kos: State of the Nation
4.Power Line
5.lgf: you guys just halve no clue
6.Boing Boing: A Directory of Wonderful Things
7. JMM & Talking Points Memo:
8.Hugh Hewitt
9.Duncan Black & Eschaton
10.The Volokh Conspiracy
I smell Pulitzer (and a big new PJ) for the first blogger to do this.

floopmeister,
Know that you are probably gone and resting for the night, but if you would just stay off those beaches when you post - with all of those riots and commotion going on, must be difficult to post.

Hilzoy is engaged to several dozen Obsidian Wings commenters, so Drum regulars should lay off the marriage proposals.
We Obwingers are a jealous bunch ;).

Good. It will give me a chance to break the commenting habit here. I like reading the blog; but you've got too many resident trolls to make the comments here worth reading. Four or five IP blocks would make a world of difference.

In the meantime:
Abramoff charity's claims disputed
Groups listed as beneficiaries of more than $330,000 in gifts say they never got them
By Chuck Lindell

Capital Athletic Foundation, a charity run by disgraced lobbyist Jack Abramoff now at the center of an influence-peddling investigation on Capitol Hill, told the IRS it gave away more than $330,000 in grants in 2002 to four other charities that say they never received the money.
The largest grant the foundation listed in its 2002 tax filing was for $300,000 to P'TACH of New York, a nonprofit that helps Jewish children with learning disabilities.
"We've never received a $300,000 gift, not in our 28 years," a surprised Rabbi Burton Jaffa, P'TACH's national director, told the Austin American-States- man. "It would have been gone by now. I guess I would have been able to pay some teachers on time."

How do I get rid of the flash animation? I've got Firefox.

But, but, but, Kevin, without your firm guidance how will I ever get over my anger at Democrats and alleged progressive bloggers who stupidly supported the Iraq war?
