Following is my attempt to sort out what was said by category, in no particular order, since I didn't take notes. 1.) A comment I wasn't given the chance to make was that Medicare & Medicaid could easily have been authorized to negotiate with pharmaceutical companies for lower pricing on drugs to seniors and the uninsured. But that wouldn't have given Bu$h's Corporate $upporter$, the In$urance Companie$, this "part D" opportunity for ADDED profit$ or ensure that pharmaceutical companies have the choice to divvy up the spoils to their own satisfaction. Herger has a ZERO % rating by APHA, has an anti-public health voting record. Also a ZERO % rating by ARA, has an anti-senior voting record. Herger STRONGLY FAVORS decreasing taxes on the wealthy, supports the Patriot Acts, supports MORE spending on war spending and military recruitment in schools. 2.) Mr Herger encouraged folks to waste a lot of time discussing Immigration, instead of what many attending WANTED to discuss: the local 'hot' topic of Inentec, the company who attempts to build a medical waste facility in Tehama County against the wishes of Citizens. That entire subject was entirely skirted. Instead, Herger encouraged lengthy discussions about immigration, which were mostly complaints about mexicans "stealing" our jobs (and "our" welfare checks) --- even though Mr Herger stated that the agriculturists all over his district, and elsewhere COMPLAIN TO HIM THAT THEY HAVE TOO FEW WORKERS - Americans being unavailable for that type of hard work. He allowed AND ENCOURAGED far too many biased, bigoted opinions to be expressed at length. 3.) I wanted to point out that EVERY American came from IMMIGRANTS. That's what this country is about. With the world trade organization resulting in outsourcing American industrial, customer service and technical jobs, many Americans no longer have jobs. It appears to me that Bush's government attempts to divert the outsourcing & related job loss by attacking immigrants, accusing them of 'taking our jobs', thereby INSTIGATING RACIAL RESENTMENT against Mexicans, while INSINUATING "terrorists" are in Mexico, poised to rush over our borders..(the Evil genius,'Rove's Fear Factor' again) In truth, most jobs Mexicans take are NOT jobs Americans fill - is the Bush Administration attempting to stop immigration in order to move those jobless americans into ag field and servants work? (I can garantee that won't happen!) I realize there needs to be some changes in immigration but making felons out of immigrants and FELONS out of CHRISTIANS WHO ASSIST NEEDY FAMILIES AND CHILDREN is NOT ACCEPTABLE! In Truth, Mexicans make GOOD CITIZENS. They fill jobs that make it possible for America's agriculture to suceed and they pay taxes. They deserve the right to become citizens. JUST as OUR grandfathers became citizens. "Immigration Reform" is an issue blown out of context. "Reform" does not require bigotry and conflict. It is irresponsible to encourage unrest, and it only takes a few agitators, (as Rove very well understands) to start a dangerous, hatefilled, bigoted conflagration which is NOTHING BUT a diversionary tactic behind which the 'bushies' are better able to conduct their nefarious schemes. Creating a civil war situation here at home, can be a convenient distraction for the war in Iraq! The Bush administration is DELIBERATELY creating ARMED BORDER CONFLICT with our neighbors !! Herger supports that. The Bush administration woos religion shamelessly, (again: Rove understands the "Value" of religion!) but they do not practise what they preach in any way, shape or form. Rather than throwing BILLIONS of dollars into DESTROYING and 'De-POPULATING' innocent, poverty ridden countries, the "CHRISTIAN" (and far cheaper) thing to do would be to spend money on IMPROVING those economies to ENCOURAGE democratic principles around the world. The precept of "you're going to be Free or we'll bomb you" is against every principle OF "Democracy". As is the hate-mongering of other religious choice! 4.) Herger insists on calling himself an "environmentalist". Nothing is further from the truth considering his abysmal voting record. In Red Bluff, (March 24th) Herger admitted that he doesn't know anything about and doesn't understand the issue of "global warming". (here he ignored and cut-off a lady who told him, "but as a LEGISLATOR you VOTE on it...") Illistrating the truth of his statement, he talked instead about how there used to be dinasaurs and ice ages, and that WE NEED TO TAKE LAND OUT OF FEDERAL OWNERSHIP SO IT CAN BE DEVELOPED -along with the Alaska Oil Fields- and how our country (including sea shores) NEEDS to be developed "OR OUR GAS MIGHT GO UP TO $10 a gallon." [ominously like a 'threat'] He told us he'd been to Alaska and flew over the pipeline and that he saw lots of 'tame' animals hanging around the pipeline, "THEY LOVE THE OIL", he said. The "caribou love the oil, it's nice and warm there" [honest to God, he said that! (@-@) Does he even know what a caribou IS?] Self-proclaimed environmentalist Herger's record is that he gets a ZERO RATING from the League of Conservation Voters (www.lcv.org) Herger voted NOT to prohibit oil drilling &development in ANWAR. Voted NOT to raise CAFE standards &incentives for alternative fuels. Voted NO on Kyoto. Voted to 'deauthorize' 'critical habitat' and voted to speed up approval for forest 'thinning' projects. 5.) Herger refused to acknowledge the question about the biggest profits for gas COMPANIES in history. However, he did allow a lengthy, boring monolog about energy and sun and wind. He chose NOT to hear the comment about the possibility of turbines in ocean current to generate CLEAN and ENDLESS energy. 6.) Herger refused to take questions or comments from those who demonstrated opposing opinions to his own, EVEN WHILE EXCLAIMING ""how wonderful it is to have these 'town hall meetings' WHERE I CAN HEAR THE OPINIONS of my constituents, TO HEAR WHAT YOUR COMPLAINTS ARE and KEEP 'IN TOUCH' WITH YOUR CONCERNS"". I had to shout my comment that I didn't feel 'represented'. He flatly stated that he did NOT represent those who oppose him, "just the 'other 67%". Herger votes NOT to restrict campaign finance reform. NOT to ban soft money or issue ads.
