FRIDAY CAT BLOGGING....Today is close-up day. As usual, Inkblot is far more cooperative in the camera department, which means that he gets a more interesting picture than Jasmine. There's a lesson there for camera-shy humans as well.
And that's it for the day. For the week, in fact. I'm on vacation until next weekend, and filling in for me will be fan favorite Steve Benen, proprietor of The Carpetbagger. Miscellenous editors of the Washington Monthly might also pop in occasionally. Just don't start impeachment proceedings without me, OK? See you in a week.

Great pix! Enjoy your vacation.

Hmm, wouldn't the mouth be fully opened at mid-yawn, or is Inkblot performing some inscrutable cat version of yawning?

Thanks for the heads up. The cranky liberal atheist phone tree has now been activated.

Kevin, we would never dream of impeaching you when you are on vacation. :)

Oh, no! My trick knee says Karl Rove gets indicted next week.

I opened your webpage and immediate started to itch. Then I saw the culprit - those cat pictures. My allergy is not the only reason I despise cats but I choose not to provoke the wrath of all of you cat lovers. Have a nice weekend. Where's the Benedryl?

Recently my father converted some old 8mm film to DVD. What was funny and sad is that the folks from 50 years ago hid from the camera and now, in their future, were faceless.

For heaven's sake, Lamonte, get a filter for your monitor!

Powerpuff,
That's why I gave my 5-year-old my old camera. If not for him, I don't think any recent pictures of me or my wife would exist. (Me, because in the past I was always the one to wield the camera, and my wife, who simply "doesn't like having her picture taken.)

So the cat whose face looks like a blot of ink on white paper is actually Jasmine, and Inkblot is the other one? Or do you find closed eyes more interesting?

Hey, if impeachment gets rolling and you're on vacation, you can just catch up when you get back.

Neither time nor tide nor impeachment hearings wait for no man.

I'm befuddled along with Kerkira -- I suppose the closed eyes have some allure to them that make the picture more visually "interesting" in an artsy way, but the open eyes picture is more interesting in a cute puppies wearing hats shot with a wide angle lens way.

...Steve Benen, proprietor of The Carpetbagger.
small correction, Steve Benen is the proprietor of The Carpetbagger Report.
(an outstanding political blog, IMHO)

Kerkira/Seymour: Actually, my statement is no longer operative. (I learned that in the 70s from Ron Ziegler.) After I wrote it, I went outside and found Jasmine in her hidey-hole and took some more pictures. So the picture of Jasmine is now as good as the picture of Inkblot. In the first go-around it wasn't, because she kept looking away from the camera.

Kevin,
I have to tell you, I hate cats... aloof, uninterested, and leaving hair everywhere...

Mmmm. . . .why is it, I wonder, that liberals and anthropologists and writers all tend to love cats? That's my question of the week

They're adorable...as long as they don't pee on or knock over furniture. (Which is why my mother, who likes cats but has never quite bonded with the current one in the family, is considering giving him to a good home.)
