It's good to have you back Kevin. How did you enjoy your much-deserved vacation?

Longer American Hawk: It's good to have you back, you socialist liar, you! So, you dishonest commie, tell us about your vacation!

How did your genealogy search go? Major info breakthroughs? Pray, tell.

You're back already? Wow, that seemed to go so fast. Are you sure you don't need another week off?

No genealogy this year, Gunther. We decided to do some more research first and go to Germany in 2007. We'll also avoid World Cup fever that way. This week was just an ordinary week off.

KEVIN DRUM: This week was just an ordinary week off.
Just curious... How many of those do you get with pay every year?

After three long years of service, that is.

Great to have you back. Steve Benen was definitely the best substitute you've had. I've not been a regular reader of the Carpetbagger, but I will be as of this week. Thanks.

Great job Steve, got a new bookmark and a new great interesting blogger to read.

Steve said there wouldn't be any homework or tests the rest of the year! Honest!

Welcome back, Kevin. Steve did a good job, and I hope you'll have him back as a guest blogger evey so often.

My son sicced me onto both: Political Animal and Carpetbagger. Unfortunately, I started reading during the week they almost doubled because of Kevin's vacation. Will look forward to seeing the differences in the writing styles and layouts, but won't quit HuffPost just yet; I like being able to pick the stories I want to read and make my own mind about the content.

Kevin,
I also like Steve's posts, though their style differed from your significantly. I also noticed that Steve tended to bunch his posts into the EDT working hours, wheras your posts are spread out over PDT waking hours. You notice these things when you read US blogs from Europe,
I recommend a trip into the Alps when you visit Germany next summer. Bring your hiking boots. If you visit the Italian side the coffee is much much better.

Welcome back, Kotter, uh, Kevin. When will you tell us of your german adventures and the quest for ancestors?

Glad to have you back, Kevin. Just in case you didn't see it, here's some inspiration for Jasmine and Inkblot, although for your sake I hope you never find any ursines roaming through Irvine:
