Celebrate by posting a picture of David Horowitz in blackface.

Take your wife out for dinner at a very nice restaurant and order a special bottle of wine.
Congratulations, Kevin. I've been with you since Calpundit. What a ride.
Posted by: kimster on August 22, 2006 at 1:17 PM | PERMALINK
God has it been that long. Sometimes I miss the calpundit days.
Posted by: Hector on August 22, 2006 at 1:17 PM | PERMALINK
Kick off the boat shots and have a Riunite on Ice! Or Boone's Farm! Damn, I can't believe I'm only 8 months younger and several factors of 10 less popular than Calpundit!

Invite some of your commenters from way back in the Calpundit days to guest blog! :-)

I second the suggestion to take your wife out to dinner. For us, however, how about a "best of" retrospective or at the very least some shots of inkblot and jasmin?
Posted by: Edo on August 22, 2006 at 1:22 PM | PERMALINK
By catblogging!

Is there still that good Mexican restaurant on the lake in Irvine?
Or take the lovely Mrs. to Pascal, in Costa Mesa, great dinner!

Boy, I remember when I thought I was a late arrival to your great blog.. that was in 2002!

Boat shots? Boat SHOES!

Celebrate, certainly, but first give thanks to the gods with the burnt offering of a talk radio host (perhaps that nice plump one).
Posted by: ergonaut on August 22, 2006 at 1:32 PM | PERMALINK
You have to figure out one of the USA Today-type statistics. Like: If your printed out all my posts and all the comments that have been made regarding those posts in Courier 10 font on a continous feed of 8.5 inch width paper it would
A) Go from New York to Chicago
B) Circle the equator
C) Circumnavigate the moon
D) The paper required would annihilate every major forest in the western hemisphere

Being from Encinitas, I should second the Georges suggestion above . . . however, I say head over to Newport and by your lovely wife a Blackie's Special. That is one tasty dog.
Posted by: BD on August 22, 2006 at 1:43 PM | PERMALINK
Four years? Well, if you want to make it four more, I suggest you start impugning the patriotism of your rival bloggers, and engineering artificially high hit counts in Ohio and Florida.

A summary of your evolving views on current issues from Calpundit to Political Animal.
Or just a Catblogging retrospective.

And I remember when you wuz still "CalPundit" and a thoughtful, liberal but pro-Iraqi invasionist.

If your wife is anything like mine, she's a step ahead of you and is ready with a celebration plan that involves spending money.
So, quick, publish your own plan.

Congratulations! I think you should really celebrate by linking to some obscure, low-traffic, newer blog run by one of your longtime (3 years or so) readers.
But, y'know, that's just me.

Stop hating America!
Failing that, I like ergonaut's "burnt offering of a radio talk host" suggestion.

How should I celebrate?
By coming out and outright supporting a Freedom of Information and Open Government amendment, including very robust whistleblower provisions (and indirectly greater protection for journalists), to ensure proper transparency and accountability in government and public service, instead of focusing narrowly on journalistic privilege all the time.
Focus on all Americans.
Toss in a Privacy amendment to that salad too, if you feel really tipsy.
Posted by: Jimm on August 22, 2006 at 2:03 PM | PERMALINK
Oh, and congratulations, of course. You've come a long way.
You should splurge tonight, and head out to Cafe Wasa for some sashimi appetizers, followed by dinner and drinks over at Opah, and then a nightcap across the way at the French 75 lounge (excellent jazz duo over there).
Posted by: Jimm on August 22, 2006 at 2:05 PM | PERMALINK
By giving one million dollars to the 41st commenter on this post!

No driving to the Marketplace either, it's probably just around a $10-12 dollar cab for you.

"Did you know that today is my fourth blogiversary? Now you do. How should I celebrate?"
I agree with several previous posters - institute some sort of registration. The signal to noise ratio in the comments section is deplorable, to the point where I read your blog less frequently than in the past (in fact, CalPundit was the first true blog I read on a regular basis back in 2002).
The trolls and spam need to be cleaned up...

Congrats, Kevin. Even though I've only beein here about six months, I feel very at home here.
Thanks for your sense of humor and whimsy, your refusal to be a nanny, your thinking mind coming to agree with the leftier among you *on the merits*, thus validating both your openmindedness and our more ideological positions simultaneously.
Have a great time whatever you do. You've surely earned it.

Since we 48 year olds can no longer party like rock stars (not like you ever did), may I suggest a trip to the mountains, sit on a rock and enjoy those stars. That should help recharge your batteries.

That truly is quite an accomplishment.
Even more laudatory is your ability to maintain perspective and equanimity despite critics left, right and center.
Lord knows I've give you a spanking or two.
Of course you deserved it... but still...
Well done Kevin.

Maybe celebrate by just taking the day off? Four years of day after day is a long time!
(I wish I knew LA well enough to suggest a great place to go. But maybe just walking along the beach, or driving along the shore, would be enough. Though what I would do is go to LACMA and look at some paintings, and then to the Japanese pavilion and listen to the falling water.)

I hope Washington Monthly gave you a bonus, as it should with your annual performance evaluation, which should be forthcoming around this time.
Put most of the bonus toward future savings, debt if you have any, some to charity, and splurge on a fun experience and perhaps a tech gadget with the rest. Wow, hope it's a good bonus. You deserve it. You're the best.

My Year Four (as we bloggers say) is also coming up in a month. Our host should do today what I plan to do then: release my enemies list.
Alternatively, our host could buy something from ??????????.
If that fails, just celebrate, celebrate, and dance to the music.

Congrats Kevin! You're one of the few who have transcended the divide between blogging and journalism and become a successful hybrid. You're in California....get a great bottle of your state's wine and toast yourself. And toast Inkblot and Jasmine, who truly made you famous.
