A Democratic Voters summit with no Democratic speakers?

Posted by: Global Citizen on September 25, 2006 at 7:38 PM | PERMALINK

5) The absence of a single Democratic speaker at a supposedly nonpartisan conference about values.

It's possible that Democrats were invited, but none accepted, much like blacks and latinos at Clinton's lunch. Blog author didn't do his research.

4) Rep. Mike Pence of IN acknowledging the biblical call to treat illegal immigrants with respect -- ignoring the instruction to treat them as our own, but at least giving it a college try -- then going on to say we should kick them all out in order to "preserve our culture." That's one way to apply Scripture. He even invoked the inscription under the Statue of Libery -- "Give me your tired, your poor, your huddled masses..." -- to prove his point. Whaaaa?

Distortion. The Bible says to treat criminals harshly, and guests with respect. Immigrants are the latter; illegal immigrants are the former. To bring in people in a fair way, we need to shut down illegal immigration and reward those who go through the actual legal process.

3) Jerry Falwell suggesting that his supporters hate Hillary Clinton more than they hate the devil. "I certainly hope that Hillary is the [presidential] candidate... Because nothing will energize my [constituency] like Hillary Clinton. If Lucifer ran, he wouldn't." Now let's have some reasoned discourse.

Jerry Falwell's assesment was descriptive, not normative.

2) The Rocky theme playing when James Dobson (Focus on the Family), Tony Perkins (Family Research Council), and Alan Sears (Alliance Defense Fund) went up to the stage for a panel. As our blogger put it: "Three guys with massive war-chests and a media reach of more than 220 million listeners daily walking out to the ultimate underdog music. It doesn't get more ridiculous than that.

First, what blogger? More importantly, they are underdogs when you consider democrat smear tactics (see two posts town aboot LBJ and the modern democrat continuation of those sorts of tactics), and a liberal media. The media hates republicans so much, that CBS forged documents to smear a veteran who got an honorable discharge (Bush, 2004). It doesn't get more underdog than that.

1) The existence of Gary Bauer. His litany of strange comments include statements that liberals "hate women" just as Islamo-fascists do, that feminism is a sick form of radicalism, that America will lose the war against terrorists because of our country's approach to same-sex marriage and abortion (isn't our country against gay marraige?), that all American Muslims should be polled (involuntarily, it seems) to see if they sympathize with Islamo-fascists (Joe McCarthy would be proud), and that many European cities are on their way to falling to the "armies of radical Islam." 'Nuff said.

Once again, liberals simply repeat a point and dismiss it, with no argumentation. "I say it's wrong, therefore it's wrong". Nice.

Wow, what a shitty list.

Jerry Falwell suggesting that his supporters hate Hillary Clinton more than they hate the devil. "I certainly hope that Hillary is the [presidential] candidate... Because nothing will energize my [constituency] like Hillary Clinton. If Lucifer ran, he wouldn't."

Falwell later claimed that this comment was a joke which was greeted with laughter by the attendants.

Can FaithfulDemocrats confirm that this was the case?

Posted by: American Hawk on September 25, 2006 at 8:15 PM | PERMALINK

Democrats don't believe in God. It's a proven fact. That's why they will never win another election or get any of the really good Iraq War contracts.

Posted by: Wingnut on September 25, 2006 at 8:18 PM | PERMALINK

Why are conservatives like American Hawk so ANGRY? Why is the Right in general so ANGRY? Do they not have any ideas of their own? All they do is complain. Why do they suffer from Clinton Derangement Syndrome?

Posted by: Red on September 25, 2006 at 8:21 PM | PERMALINK

Red-- Two platforms of the Democrat party are baby-killing (which they call abortion) and grave-robbing (which they call the death tax). They're literally setting society back thousands of years. One of the earliest taboos of civilizations was graverobbing, but the Democrats are trying to bring it back.

Given that the democrats advocate grave-robbing and baby-killing, we have every reason to be angry.

Posted by: American Hawk on September 25, 2006 at 8:26 PM | PERMALINK

The existence of Gary Bauer. His litany of strange comments include statements that

(1) " liberals hate women" just as Islamo-fascists do, - Women have never been more likely to live in poverty, be Husbandless and children be Fatherless than since the 60s cultural revolution

(2) that feminism is a sick form of radicalism, - It is with deep roots in Frankfurt School Marxism Simion DeBeovea, and other Marxist radical egalitarians

(3) that America will lose the war against terrorists because of our country's approach to same-sex marriage and abortion We are decadent divided and weak, countries that dont protect their weakest citizens and most important institutions can never survive against a protracted war against a civilization that does. (isn't our country against gay marraige?), - Not the Democrats or their fellow travelers on the bench

(4) and that many European cities are on their way to falling to the "armies of radical Islam." - The demographics of Europe are well recorded, below replacement levels of European births require massive immigration to sustain growing populations. The trend lines dont meet somewhere in the distant future but within a generation, making assimilation unlikely.

Good to hear, Hawk. I still wipe Al, too -- he can't take his hands from the keyboard, where he lets you Baby-Killers know how Evil you are!

Mr. Hawkums:

"grave-robbing and baby-killing..."

So what's your stand on abortions via laser-guided bomb?

How do you feel about the children killed in Iraq? Maybe I could get you some numbers.

Why are you people so obsessed with the pre-born but have no interest in the well-being of pre-schoolers?

Posted by: n on September 25, 2006 at 8:40 PM | PERMALINK

I'm feeding Al cookies right now, so to repeat what Hawk says:

Allowing women to take RU-486 and not have a fertilized egg implant is the cause of all the problems in this country and in the world.

Just so you know.

Posted by: Al's Mommy on September 25, 2006 at 8:41 PM | PERMALINK

Oh the right loves babies - while they are in the womb. But they have no qualms about denying them healthcare and adequate shelter. Nobody is supposed to have an abortion, ever, but if their kids die of poverty, then they got their just deserts.

Come to a hospital in the hood with me for a couple of shifts and retain this ideology, and i'll be convinced you have no soul.

Posted by: Global Citizen on September 25, 2006 at 8:43 PM | PERMALINK

don't know if any blogs have picked this up but you should check out newsweek international and compare the cover stories from around the world. pretty telling.

If they wanted a Democratic speaker to talk about "values", there is no politician who lives a more Christian life than James Earl Carter.

Its such a pity we have a phony Christian president now, instead of a real one.

Thomas, dear:

"You get me ANY newborn child and I will get him / her adopted."

It's just as I've always suspected: The real reason you Repukes are so interested in a ban on abortion is so you can buy and sell kids (make that healthy, tow-headed white kids) in the adoption market.

Aren't you the creep who advertises in the classified section of my rural weekly for a stable, mature couple to adopt a child (i.e., take that "unwanted" pregnancy off an unwed mother's hands)?

The Rocky theme playing when James Dobson (Focus on the Family), Tony Perkins (Family Research Council), and Alan Sears (Alliance Defense Fund) went up to the stage...

The theme music from "The Omen" would have been more appropriate.

Two platforms of the Republican Party are government abandonment (which they call "fiscal responsibility") and cronyism (which they call "good old boys" or "elections have consequences" or "nyah nyah - lobbyists love me better!"). They're literally setting society back thousands of years. One of the first functions of civilization was to control floods in ancient Sumeria and Egypt. (Republicans obviously don't believe in controlling floods, rednecks, or religious militant fundamentalist fanatics). Anarchy: Republicans are trying to bring it back.

T1, youre such a stooge. If what you just typed, re: adoption, was really a value you cared about, you could, and most likely should, spend your next 12 life times working 24/7 to deal with tens of thousands nearly newborns and toddlers (up to five yrs) who are being warehoused in foster factories across the nation.

Your hypocrisy here, exposes you as shallow, hateful and devoid of true humane values and human value.

Posted by: Keith G on September 25, 2006 at 10:12 PM | PERMALINK

You shouldn't get so much of your news from Democratic sources. Think of all the important stuff that source left out that will turn out the Republican vote this fall (another surprise like 2004!) and appeal to swing voters.

He named names -- "None of them got the call"

"To bring in people in a fair way..."

I notice that you dodged the xenophobia of his "preserve our culture" comment, which is utterly undependent on legal or illegal.

Posted by: republicrat on September 25, 2006 at 10:48 PM | PERMALINK

Republiconcerntrollcrat: the only thing left out of the report was Christianity, and it was not in attendance. If someone is easily bamboozled by idiotic zealots, it is damned hard to reach them with Voltaire, Christ, or Ghandi. In fact, there comes a point when it doesn't matter. The lowest common denominator is a person like American Hawk or Charlie.

The only 2004 surprise I felt was the sickening feeling that the election was stolen or America's common sense had departed--perhaps for good.

No need to concern yourself though. The GOP will be voted out or pitchforked in the bread riots of 2007. That housing bubble sustained deficit spending for a little while, but nothing else did. It was all interest rates and slick marketing.

Posted by: Sparko on September 25, 2006 at 11:16 PM | PERMALINK

T1:
ANY newborn child
I dont mean to be crude, but healthy and near healthy new borns are like puppies, great curb appeal and easy to place. Big deal.

I have spent a considerable amount of time working with older kids stock piled in the foster system. All they want, by and large is to be loved, to be part of a stable family. Some are so traumatized by being passed around like old luggage, they wonder what they have done to be so unlovable.

You want respect? You want mega holy street cred? Leave the puppies to others. Work on placing these wonderful youngsters.

Its easy to feel for a fetus. It wonderful to get all gushy over the Gerber Baby. Serve a greater good by making manifest the Lords love. Work on forming families for these currently un-cherished children.
Until you do. Fuggitaboutit

Posted by: Keith G on September 25, 2006 at 11:47 PM | PERMALINK

Charlie/Thomas1:

You couldn't be more wrong. One of my neighbors took foster care of a newborn almost immediately after birth (I guess the little boy was a new newborn). Permanent placement (which is not the same as foster care) will not be determined until the boy is a year old. It's quite likely that the neighbors will eventually become adoptive parents, but for the first year of his life, the little boy is indeed in foster care. At the same time, there are newborns with birth defects, and newborns who are placed with families who eventually decide *not* to seek permanent custody, who would indeed be hard to place immediately with adoptive parents.

Care to share any more false "information"? Or just some more

There is no newborn in Foster Care (permanent placement for children under Dependency Court jurisdiction -- single family homes, group homes with no more than six children, or institutions with many children) that could not be immediately adopted by a loving and stable family here in the U.S. The waiting list is huge. As I said, you get me ANY newborn child, and I will get him / her adopted. I would not make any money off of it.

What's screwball about this is that 40 years ago, these folks (including Dobson) would be either on the margins of society, on the funny farm or even serving prison terms.

At the very least, what they are spouting would have been considered fringe and kookie. Now these inmates control the political discourse of this country.

SUPPORTING TORTURE doesn't rank as one of the top five bizarro things about the right-wing so-called CHRISTIANS?

If the left-wing so-called CHRISTIANS don't see support of TORTURE as a big issue, then I'm very disappointed. Maybe they meant to mention it but they forgot to?

Posted by: anonymous on September 26, 2006 at 8:22 AM | PERMALINK

Yes, the clearest illustration of the corruption of the so-called Christian right is their love of torture. (No Charlie - I don't care about your single data point "poll", so stow it). Morality has nothing to do with the "religious" right. I suspect that it didn't make the list on the meeting because they thought better of mentioning their torture love from the stage...but it is clearly visible on their websites.

Also, are you in favor of any type of birth control besides the rhythm method? If not, you aren't serious about your opposition to abortion.

Belly-slapping ONE suspected terrorist against the deaths of 300 million is a ludicrous scenario. What could possibly kill 300 million simultaneously? Even our biggest bombs can't do that. And assuming that this were possible, if it were truly likely you would know about it from multitudinous sources, not just one hapless terrorist. And given our government's record on finding so-called terrorists, I wouldn't trust them to have a guy who could give them any decent info, regardless of the techniques applied.

Is it my imagination, or are our trolls even less connected with reality than usual today?

American Hawk: Equating an estate tax with grave robbing? How silly. Just out of curiosity, people are sometimes dug up and autopsied because crimes are suspected. Do you consider that the same as grave robbing?

My father is almost 84. I hope he lives for quite a while yet, as long as he still is mentally with the program, and his physical ailments are bearable to him. His estate is borderline in terms of estate tax. But if when he goes my sibs and I have to pay an estate tax, so be it. We didn't do anything to earn it, nor did my father, for that matter. Unlike you, I am proud to be able to shoulder my obligations to society.
