MARYLAND GOP VOTER GUIDE BAMBOOZLE... The GOP is handing out blatantly misleading campaign literature in heavily African American Prince George's County, Maryland. It comes in the form of a pamphlet urging voters to support the two "Democrats" at the top of the ticket, Bob Ehrlich and Michael Steele (both, of course, are Republicans). Our reporter in PG County, Jesse Singal, got his hands on one of the pamphlets. It was given to him by a homeless guy from Philly bussed in by the GOP. Check out Jesse's report here.
Lot's of other terrific on-the-ground reporting over at Showdown '06, including: high voter turnout reports from Virginia and New Jersey, scrutiny of voting machines in Tennessee, and GOP shenanigans--but a glum-looking Charlie Bass--in New Hampshire.

Today is our day to voice ourselves! But is that really true? Do we live in a democracy or is this ployarchy (think Will Robinson's book Promoting Polyarchy)?
Today we stand up for life, liberty and the pursuit of happiness; for our values as US citizens.
However, how can we say that we believe in our values with 37 million people within our great free nation live in poverty, the majority of them children? How can we say that this is life?
Today we need to get out and vote for liberty, for life, for ESC rights! Vote for people who will address issues of poverty, especially the Millennium Development Goals! The Millennium Development Goals will be the greatest achievement of our time!
The Borgen Project, a Seattle-based non-profit, is working to achieve these goals! Let's end poverty and improve the lives of others!!!

My prop bet of the day: The Philadelphia Democratic party sues the MD Repubs for co-opting their workforce.

Dear little Chuckles, our resident clown, wrote: "an innocent typo."
ROFL... And the second time you trotted out this pathetic response. And the first response in all three of these threads, too. Poor Chuckles....

How can any American forgive the Republican Party for its crimes against our democracy?
Either you respect the system or you don't
The GOP doesn't respect our democracy.
They try and get around it any chance they get.
Shameful.

From TalkingPointsMemo.com:
From the GOP handbook of Maryland politics:
- Recruit homeless men in Philadelphia;
- Bus them into Maryland;
- Arrange for the Republican governor's wife to greet them upon their arrival;
- Outfit them in hats and T-shirts for the governor's re-election campaign;
- Have them pass out flyers in heavily Democratic areas that erroneously identify the GOP candidates for governor and U.S. senator as "Democrats."
Yup. Just an "innocent typo."

yeah, I type "Democrat" instead of "Republican" all the time, they're practically the exact same word.

I would imagine someone deleted it as a duplicate, Chuckles. What's the matter, too many threads to spam so you're losing track?

I was working a polling station in MD today. The Steele fake ballot was a pretty reprehensible tactic. About 11am or so they came by and yanked them from their poll workers. Even the GOP apparently has limits to what they'll do.
Of all the dirty tricks they've pulled (the push poll, etc), honestly I've seen worse from MD's GOP.
But the emotional reaction this one drew was funny.
Steele and Ehrlich did better than I thought they'd do...but Maryland remains as close to a one-party state as we have in this union.
