NO MORE FRIST? Looks like we'll be deprived of a Bill Frist presidential run in '08. That's a shame, because a politician as entertainingly craven as Frist deserves to have a proper outlet for his talents. I was curious to see how he'd approach a national campaign in light of the midterms. Would he, for example, start attacking the White House for the war in Iraq? Or might he announce he'd changed his mind about end-of-life decisions and go and personally pull some plugs? It promised to be good, whatever it was. But I guess he felt it was going to be too hard to zig after the political winds had abruptly zagged. He's probably right, but I wish he'd have given it a try all the same. For my sake.

That SMELL, Kevin!
It's in all the forums.
Can't you spray something? Light a match? Anything?

Maybe he can now go back to his first true love: adopting cats and then killing them.

Schucks, and I was so looking foward to a public airing of his career as Harvard Med School's Dr. mengele of cats.

and it's a rather familiar smell, too.
isn't that right, Bram?

Thank God that Bill Frist (a/k/a Lurch from the Addams Family) has finally realized that he has the personal charisma of a moldy dog turd! Or maybe the SEC is actually going to indict the rich prick for insider trading, as well they should. Or maybe his long-distance video diagnosis of Terri Schiavos medical condition made people realize what an incompetent putz he is. In any case, good riddance Frist, you fricking loser!!!

Frist's departure is good news for the country but bad news for Democrats. :(

All that pandering for nothing. A shame.
If Frist is going back to medicine, however, hide your kitties.
And was that sound I heard Trent Lott doing an obnoxious in your face taunt?

"Frist picks hicks' tickers over politikers" is the best headline and take on this I've seen so far (truthalyzer.com). Frist needs to be the all powerful leader, and if he can't have that in Washington, then he will return to being a cardiac surgeon, god of the OR. Many will come to his shrine in Tennessee to be healed, and maybe Washington will heal when he and his ilk have gone.

The federal government already spends more on Medicare and other health care services than either Social Security or national defense. How much would be enough for you?
I'm curious, Charlie, do you think we should cut medicare, or is current spending just right?

Kevin's on vacation -- I'm here all day though.
Not gonna sign off early today and run like a little bitch, huh Chuckles?
And, please--don't lecture me on feeding the troll. This troll must be smashed and hemmed in. To ignore him is, to put it succinctly, to feed him because the only thing that works is hitting him in the nuts until he cries and runs away.

we've had how many years of GOP rule in Congress in the past decade ? how many of those years under a GOP president ? and how many times did they pass bills to cut Medicare ? by comparison, how many times did they pass bills to increase it ?
go ahead, blame the Dems.

Well at least Bram owned up to his views, revolting as some of them may be. Tell me, Bram, why is it okay for Kaiser to sentence me to death but not okay for government health care to save me? Pretend I'm dying of leukemia (I'm not), and explain to me why keeping a bloated, inefficient private system's profit margins high is more important than my life. And spare me the dishonest condescending about cost. Per capita, no rich country spends more than us, and none cover as few.

How can ANYONE split the fundie vote?
Don't they all vote for the One True God's One True Representative? Don't they pray? Don't they get filled with the Holy Spirit which tells them how to vote? Is not God's Will Done?

craigie:
The pie chart you linked to is closer to reality than anything this Bram creature is likely to put forward as how our federal tax dollars are actually spent. However, the War Resisters pie chart still doesn't take into account the "black dollars" that the Pentagon does not report to the Congress and the American people, as required by the Constitution. Those expenditures are hidden in the Energy Dept. budget (things like nuclear pulse lasers), the Commerce Dept. budget (civilian processing of military payrolls, etc.) and other Executive Branch agencies. The truth is that the Pentagon is sucking this country dry and will bankrupt us if we let it. Liberals need to fight like hell to educate the American people and to stop equating militarism with patriotism [We are way-y-y off-topic, though, aren't we?].

He isn't championing jack.
The only thing he's championing there is the enslavement of all women to natural biology, and his whack-job interpretation of scripture. (which, by the way, does NOT justify a ban on abortion).
It's not about protecting embryos.
It's not about a "culture of life".
It's not about obeying God's Law.
It's about "keeping da wimmin in da kitchen where they belong".

Man, where are these women you can just push around? I can't find one, and don't think I've ever even met one. They all think they are equal or something. Get in a relationship, and they expect me to know how to load a dishwasher and mate socks and change sheets and operate a vacuum cleaner. Hell, my grandmother used to tell my grandpa to pick up a damned dishtowel tonight if he wanted to eat tomorrow.

Exactly, git. I don't understand why they aren't running the joint, to be honest. That they aren't is the biggest mystery of the universe and the biggest scam ever perpetrated against slightly over half of the people of the world. Our gender hasn't exactly proven our superiority so we may as well give them a shot. You want to try to clean up this mess? Me either. Maybe mom will send us to our collective room and clean it all up themselves because they want it done right this time. It's our only hope, really.
Women control 100% of the - well, my mother would still slap me for saying it - but you know what I mean.

I am glad we won't be seeing Frist in the White House (on Pennsylvania Ave., that is) because he has a terrible reputation with supporters of the UN Millennium Development Goals. According to the Borgen Project, Frist was a target for anti-poverty voters.

Does anyone remember on This Week a couple of years ago (repeated on the Daily Show) when Frist would not say conclusively whether you can get HIV from hugging or kissing someone with the disease?
How could anyone actually go to him for medical advice now (even though this was blatant politics and he obviously knows better)?

During the Katrina fiasco, he did go to New Orleans, where he donned whites and performed triage on the incoming. It was truly a sight to behold - such compassion - reminded me of a fellow years ago standing beside the railroad tracks and separating the incoming - some to the left - some to the right.
In this case, it was those insured, immediately to the right - the uninsured to whatever long, long waiting area over by the chimneys. Yes, a true calling to the Lord's work.
