UPDATE: INHOFE STILL A PRICK....We already know that James Inhofe is a scientific moron, and now we have further evidence that he's also the biggest prick in the Senate: Inhofe is single-handedly holding up permission for "Live Earth," a group associated with Al Gore, to use the National Mall for a concert on July 7. It's a point of personal privilege. Apparently he thinks the answer to global warming is more temper tantrums.

Inhofe is single-handedly holding up permission for "Live Earth," a group associated with Al Gore, to use the National Mall for a concert on July 7.
For good reason. The documentary "The Great Global Warming Swindle" has already demolished Gore's leftwing view that greenhouse gases are the cause of global warming.
Newsmax Link
""The Great Global Warming Swindle" is based on sound science and draws on the statements of real climate scientists, including me.
There is no proof at all that the current warming is caused by the rise of greenhouse gases from human activities, such as the generation of energy from the burning of fuels.
Observations in ice cores show that temperature increases have preceded and not resulted from increases in CO2 by hundreds of years, suggesting that the warming of the oceans is an important source of the rise in atmospheric CO2.
As the dominant greenhouse gas, water vapor is far, far more important than CO2, yet not well handled by climate models and, in any case, not within our control. Greenhouse models can also not account for the observed cooling of much of the past century (1940-75), nor for the observed patterns of warming what we call the "fingerprints.""

Perhaps if the concert-goers promised to have a display that demonstrated that dinosaurs were present on Noah's Ark, Inhofe might relent?

You do have to love the local nut jobs. Where would we be without American Hawk and Al? Seriously, you always get the feeling these people believe themselves to be a vital part of the Political Animal community. I don't think they get that they are nothing but the court jesters.

Why can't the American House of Lords be reformed? It is more aristocratic than any governing institution in Europe outside of the Vatican. It is amazing how much lip service is paid to freedom and democracy in the United States when the public institutions are so plainly antiquated that one ignorant lord from the hinterland can, by his personal privilege, block a public association. And Americans of good will wonder why the government serves the interests of the best class without consequence.

James Inhofe's one of the wisest Senators, because he doesn't follow the crowd, especially on this global warming hysteria.
Yes, a lot of scientists say global warming is a crisis. Of course they do. If they said, "Global Warming may change the temperature slightly, and we do not know if it will have a serious effect", they would not as easily get research grants as they would if they said, "It's a crisis! The world's going up in flames!" If there's a crisis, it means more research grants for scientists, so of course scientists will say there's a crisis.
Inhofe is one of the few Senators with common sense not to be swept up in the hysteria.

"When the Interior Department rejected the proposal, questioning whether planners could get enough portable toilets for the expected crowd, the promoters turned to Congress."
Does that seem strange? There have been events on the National Mall that have been wall-to-wall people before. So this event can't possibly have more people than those previous events. Yet I don't recall hearing about a major problem with toilets before. Even if there were problems with every previous large event, why would this problem be impossible to solve? This seems like the kind of stubling block that would warrant a resubmission of the the application, not an outright rejection. I would guess that the Interior Department was looking around for any possible excuse to reject the event. You'd think they could have found a better one.

Reading the comments here is always good for comedy. I find Al and A.H. particularly funny. They have a career devoted to responding to blogs.
Yes, articles quoting economists views on the benefits of global warming and quoting emeritas professors is high comedy. Sound science. That's such a great phrase. Sound=ideologically driven. WHat I don't understand is how the earth got so hot? It's been here for less than 10000 years, right?

No, Inhofe realizes that the only option left in being out of power and on the wrong side of history is temper tantrums. I doulbe Big Oil would consider jut holding up live Earth as an adequate return on their investment, do you?

We haven't heard from everyone's favorite -- not -- faux-moderate concern troll in a while.
Sadly, I doubt Big Oil (or the Scaife Counter Blogging Projet) would consider brian's bullshit an adequate return on investment either. It is, though, yet another sad indictment of the derangement and/or dishonesty of the Bush Cultists.

If there's a crisis, it means more research grants for scientists, so of course scientists will say there's a crisis.
Whereas if Inhofe and his corrupt cohorts keep denying the problem, it means more donations from Big Oil, so of course Inhofe and his corrupt cohorts will say there's no crisis.

No one pays for 'research' as well as the energy industry. Get with the program chum, send your commentary to Exxon and they'll reimburse you big time.
Inhofe is a prime example of the immaturity of the modern GOP: temper tantrums, blaming other for your attributes, and supporting nonsense for the simple reason that liberals and Al Gore take the opposite position.
If Gore were to become a climate change denier, the party line for the GOP would do a 180 but the Democrats would abandon Gore.

God I'm so tired of you right wing prick nut jobs. PRIORITIES link couldn't be more full of bullshit. I'm betting this asshole doesn't live in Ohio and has no clue as to what's going on here. I do live in O hio and that link is utter crap.

If Inhofe's tantrum involves holding his breath there will be that much less carbon dioxide released.

Ah, happy times. It reminds me of when good ol' Bob Barr (R-Fuckwittia) held up money for the Washington DC budget, until the Metro system changed the signs that read "National Airport" to "Reagan National Airport". Barr's pissant move cost several hundred thousand dollars -- and I don't doubt that he spent the very next day gassing about gummint waste-fraud-abuse.
Oh, and just in case you're reading, Bob -- it's still "National Airport" to anyone who lives here, asshole.

I say we continue with the good work of climate change (begun in '06) in '08 so that by Jan '09 -these ignorant, lying, mendacious, corrupt, dishonest and dangerous thugs will be out of power.

Hey Hawk:
You don't rise to the level of prick. In the Prick Hall of Fame, you're not fit to suck Jim Inhofe's.
What kind of life a loser like you must have to have nothing better to do than being completely preoccupied with being the first rightwing troll to spew your bullshit on a left-of-center blog.
Surely if your cause is so important, you can find make a more effective contribution than this?
What a pathetic loser you are.

As someone else commented recently, "who you gonnna believe, the people(scientists) who sent us to the moon, or the ones who sent us to Iraq?"

Inhofe should get wise and allow the event to go on. Surely Our Lord G-d will seize the occasion to strike down Al The Atheist and his rock 'n roll scumbags with a lightning bolt. Has Inhofe no faith?
