GREAT MINDS ETC.....Bizarrely enough, my wife said exactly the same thing yesterday, though perhaps in tones more of regret then of faux conspiracy theorizing. But still.

Friends and I have wondered the same thing!
The power of Jon!

Well, I think the Gonzales thing's been played out, but Craig - now that's comedy gold. However, it has the chance to become even more hirlarious over the next two weeks, especially if he continues to pursue the "it was all a big misunderstanding" line.

Regarding Sen Craig, I must again ask the perennial question: Why are *all* Republican men either pedophiles or closeted homosexuals?

And don't the late night shows (Leno, Letterman, etc) tend to go on week long vacations around Labor days well?

I figured they timed it to coincide with the Michael Vick guilty plea and press conference.

I'm slightly ashamed to admit that mr. shortstop and I said the same thing, remembering the Libby pardon and something else from a previous DS/CR hiatus.

No doubt Fox has already identified Craig with a big (D) after his name to prevent others asking that very same question.
What would it be like to have a few healthy, well-adjusted, openly gay Republicans out there? Oh, wait, those are called Democrats.

Katrina hit during a Daily Show hiatus, but I'm pretty sure that one wasn't a conspiracy.

You forgot "or whoremongers" in your question.
David "Diapers" Vitter, criminal john, is enjoying something like 60 percent popularity in Louisiana. I really, truly love Louisiana and New Orleans, but I still gotta say: that is one weird-ass state.
Meanwhile, wingers everywhere are calling on Craig to resign to avoid "mortal embarrassment of the whole party."
Tells you something, huh?

As soon as I heard Gonzo was indeed going, I assumed it was timed to distract everyone from the second anniversary of Katrina.

Seriously, though, where the heck was the media on the Craig story? This happened back on June 11 -- 2 and a half months ago -- and we are only just now hearing about a US Senator from Idaho sexually harassing people in a men's room in Minneapolis? How the hell did this stay below the radar for so long?
Posted by: Disputo on August 28, 2007 at 10:56 AM | PERMALINK
The Daily Show is pure comedic genius. I highly recommend to go to the website and view the "Billions And Billions" video regarding America's historic, blundering tinkering in the Middle East.
"Oh Billions of dollars, is there no dispute you can't settle?"

The best evidence that Craig's scandal was NOT politically timed is that his excuses and PR pushback have been so utterly lame. If they'd planned to release this now, Craig would have had something a little less ridiculous to say defending himself.

My guess is that if it had happened in Idaho or DC, we'd have heard about it, but because he was arrested in Minneapolis, the connection wasn't obvious to anyone trolling the records for senatorial arrests.
Still, if I'd been the cop at whom Craig imperiously flashed his Senate ID, I'd have been hard pressed not to respond to "What do you think of that?" with: "I think you just turned a routine arrest into a major media event."

When it was first revealed that Vitters was utilizing the services of DC prostitutes, his constituents were outraged, but he won them back after he went public with the fact that he prefers, and is a regular customer of, NOLA harlots....
I think that that is what Tip meant when he said that all politics is local....

Perhaps, but aren't there any reporters in Idaho who got suspicious when Craig's schedule for Aug 8th included:
Court date in MN -- travel required

What is it with GOP politicians' penchant for screwing the good people of New Orleans?

I wouldn't say that all Republicans are closet cases. Just the prissy ones with the sententious manner of out-of-work morticians. IOW, just the ones who hold public office.

This from today's Idaho Statesman piece cracks me up:
a man who said Craig "cruised" him for sex in 1994 at the REI store in Boise
Surely the RNC can do something with this info. Unlike swishy Democratic coastal queens, who cruise in ABC Carpet and Home in NYC or some femmy wine shop in San Francisco, Idaho Republican closet cases look for anonymous sex in manly, outdoorsy shopping venues!

Accept that REI is a hippie co-op. You can't purchase guns there.
Manly men hang out at places like, ahem, Dick's Sporting Goods.
Ok, I'll stop now....

Come on. Bush is still, and always has been, a sock puppet. His cronies are just sock puppet's sock puppets. And while Bush is Cheney's Sock Puppet, Cheney is someone else's Sock Puppet.
It doesn't take a conspiracy theory to understand that some people will do anything when the right hand is shoved up their keister.

I think it has become clear that the GOP is against gay marriage, but for gay adultery. 'Don't ask, don't tell.' In other words, you don't want to know.

There's gotta be a Republican-inspired cover of the Monty Python "I'm a Lumberjack" song somewhere...
"I cut down trees, I skip and jump,
I like to press wild flowers.
I put on women's clothing,
And hang around in bars."

It's not just the great minds who think alike, it's also me.
I actually awoke to the Gonzo news yesterday morning, thinking I should do a one line post to that effect on my blog, but having to get to my day-job distracted me from the vital task.
The good news is, I'm laid off at the end of the week.

Yes, Comedy Central is the only source of news Republicans are afraid of.
Even if the regular cable news guys get something right it's intermixed with Britney news and sounds a lot like "wahh wah wahh wahhh wahh".

Great! Kevin's picking up Atrios' bad habit of cryptic posts. I know it's not a big deal, but I hate it when bloggers post a link without even a hint as to what it is to which they are linking.
Stop with the blind links and just spit it out man!
"Heh! Indeed..."
