LOVE CHILD WATCH....Email from a reader:
I would like you to stay on top of this McCain story. If it gets dug into deep enough, I'm hoping we will eventually find out that McCain has been having an affair with David Broder.
Consider it done....

McCain has been having an affair with David Broder
What color is the child? Now, there's your story.

A Broder-McCain lovechild?
Nope.
It would die from self-satisfaction.
Posted by: Jeffrey Davis on February 21, 2008 at 11:32 AM | PERMALINK
No, Jeff Davis, it would THRIVE on self-satisfaction, and its name would be ...
Rush Limbaugh.
There, everybody have a group nightmare tonight.

When I was a kid in grammar school, a few of the dumber kids had a technique to enhance their self-esteems: once, cursed with your mind that had been wired by nature to capably figure and be interested in creative endeavors, problem solving, and abstract thinking, you had finally gotten bored with it after 4 years of rote-memorizing the spellings of words from spelling/vocabulary/langauage arts that you couldn't find in a comic book, and you wouldn't read anywhere until college, some dumb asshole would pick up on it and finally memorize the spellings of a few difficult words, just so they could point out that they knew the spelling of one or two difficult words that you didn't, and wave it in your face. Or they'd memorize some set of facts- anything they thought they knew that you didn't, even sometimes when what they claimed to know wasn't true, they'd wave it in your face. Once a kid even tried to tell me and my brother that our PSAT scores didn't count because the PSAT was total bullshit and not nearly as difficult as the real SATs.
Some things don't change. The Republican reaction to this scandal will be to cook up a hundred trite, bullshit reasons why McCain's affair doesn't count, isn't real, or is being over-inflated by the media. All this detailed BS you'd never pull out if the story had to do with someone you know, rather than some political figure you're fighting over, will be treated by the Republicans as extremely typical examples of common sense.

you had finally gotten bored with it
Well, finally got bored with the rote memorization, not with the problem solving/abstract thinking, that is.
If only my English / language arts teachers could see me now!

We should review the record and see if there's any lengthy time when McCain disappeared from the public view. It doesn't have to be nine months; with McCain's physique, he would only have "shown" for the last trimester or so.

This story will stay alive only if the Democrats keep pushing it, the kind of thing they are generally loathe to do.

How can any McCain tryst be more horrifying than the one he openly acknowledges with his wife- the first alien being to have mastered Mary Kay cosmetics?

And that child is --- Joe Lieberman.

Of course when people say McCains's wife, they really mean his second wife. The first Mrs. McCain found it necessary to divorce her cheating husband. I know, I know, it's not about the sex.

The one thing that this story might do, something Josh Marshall brought up, is finally get the MSM to quit taking everything McCain says at face value. Also, along the lines of Watergate; follow the money. McCain has never paid for his role in the S&L scandal. Revisiting this would be both timely and just deserts.

Jeff II, wouldn't hold my breath on the S&L thing. Neil Bush never paid for his role in the largest S&L failure.

I heard that they didn't use a condom. The purpose of sex is to produce a pregnancy and condoms prevent pregnancy. Therefore, it's not illicit sex because they didn't use a condom.

I think you underestimate the general loathsomeness of the MSM. This woman is waaaay better looking than Monica Lewinsky, and McCain's a well-know philanderer. Furthermore, now that the NYT has published the story, it may open the flood gates of other publication that sat on their versions, reliably sourced or otherwise.

"Love" and "Republicans" in the same sentence? Ridiculous.
Posted by: MarkH on February 21, 2008 at 12:21 PM | PERMALINK
McCain is a straight talker, so I'm sure he will honestly and openly explain everything.
Also, why would Broder sleep with McCain? Did Broder have business before McCain's Committee?
Posted by: reino on February 21, 2008 at 12:30 PM | PERMALINK
jeff II if we were living in a competitive media world your analysis would be right. This story should have legs.
Instead we are living in the world of the consolidated corporate media (MSM) who are more than willing to kill a good juicy important story if it advances their consolidated corporate interests.
Young pretty blond women need to take special care over the next few days. I am sure the media is on the prowl for a good story.

Aww, liddle nooky-wooky McCain- I bet that pwecious man just had an affair because he is wonely, and needed somebody to wove.

Broder's definitely a bottom type.

Is the Schmuck Talk Express going to do a Viagra commercial with Dole? Bob or Liddy, either one?

So should we from now on use the phrase 'Straight Shooter' rather than 'Straight Talker' for St. McCain?

I have serious doubts about the McCain/Broder connection. From what I hear, Broder blows goats instead.

In fact, this whole thread is hilarious. Thanks, all.
This woman is waaaay better looking than Monica Lewinsky
You think? With those badly plucked eyebrows, she reminds me of a Ziegfeld girl. But I'll take the word of the XY crowd.

Neil "Fredo" Bush isn't running for president.

This story is one that Larry Flynt has been hinting at for months(Senate candidate for president sex affair). Think what you will about Flynt, but he has been spot on with his outings.

This woman may be better looking than David Broder but that's about it. Monica was a bit plump but she wasn't scary looking.

gregor on February 21, 2008 at 12:48 PM:

I'm in favor of using 'The Straight Jacket Express'...or if the philandering thing proves out, maybe 'The Adulterous C*ck Express'...or, if the influence-peddling thing proves true, 'The Shady Bureaucrat Express'...
Interestingly, Kev mentions Broder and McCain in the same snarky sentence, when:
In 2000, when McCain set out to seek the Republican Party's presidential nomination, his campaign charter jet landed in New Hampshire early on with some lobbyists aboard...David Broder, dean of the politicial writers, was aboard that plane. And he duly noted the presence of Ken Duberstein, the lobbyist and former chief of staff for Ronald Reagan, aboard the plane of the senator running as the anti-establishment candidate.
(Bold text mine.)
So if this Vicki Iseman gets pegged as McCain's paramour based on - in part - sharing a plane with said Senator, what does that tell you about Broder?
