"TWO HOURS OF OBAMA BASHING"....Chris Wallace deserves some props for this. It's not too often that a Fox News host calls out his own network colleagues — even "respectfully" — for diving feet first into the fever swamp.

Chris Wallace would only deserve props if he resigned, confessed and agreed never again to appear on any broadcast.
That was nothing more than the usual corporate press/media "oh my!" employed to keep up the pretense that the content is not propaganda. A moment or two of hand-wringing followed by business as usual. Tonight on FOX, three hours of Obama bashing.
They are just practicing for the general election.

Obama's speech on Tuesday was one of those dog-whistle speeches people are always talking about.
And the intended audience for the dog-whistle? Grown ups.
Maybe Chris Wallace inherited a little bit of grown up from his father (granting that he usually keeps it sealed up in a jar).
Posted by: lampwick on March 21, 2008 at 2:15 PM | PERMALINK
Did I miss it? Did his father die and take over Chris's body? Good for Chris, maybe next he can do the same to Sean "Eat A Donut" Hannity the next time that fat fuck says "If Obama is elected and these allegations are true - and I'm not saying they are - but will we have a racist and anti-semite as President?".

Momentary props, but not evidence of a change in a pattern of behavior.
Anyone want to bet that Chris Wallace is leaving Fox for saner pastures?
(Either by being pushed out or going to work for a less-truthy-more-truthful organization?)

I have always thought Chris Wallace was a little uncomfortable working for Fox. It might actually help his career if he has to find other employment. He will probably feel better about himself.
I have to say the three stooges seemed shocked that anybody would call them out.

This from the guy with "Obama Watch" plastered all over his set? Maybe he's afraid his ratings will have him following Gibson out the door.
I would love to see Fox programming reduced the BillO/Hannity Show 24 hours a day.

At some point even the biased with a high enough IQ have to be concerned about preserving a little credibility to maintain a voice in the game. Not to mention that FOX ratings may have shown some weaknesses in the country's turning Left.
Plus, don't the nightly news folks always have some disdain just under the surface for their morning show peers?

the HELL wallace deserves any props - as a result of this, faux has decided that 2 HOURS OF NONSTOP OBAMA BASHING IS NOT ENOUGH
Not only did he provide a platform to repeat the lies, the consensus at FAUX seems to be that THEY NEED MORE OF IT!
Posted by: on March 21, 2008 at 2:45 PM | PERMALINK
More like, "Obama is going to win and we aren't going to get any interviews, so let's play outraged".
I don't trust Fox News versus the crap my Doberman dishes out. Sorry. Hell with your network.
But I feel sorry for Chris Wallace. ha ha

Steve Doocy, Brian Kilmeade, and Gretchen Carlson are the 3 Stooges of Morning News. This was a no-brainer for the calculating & manipulating Chris Wallace. He makes it look like Fox has some decency & credibility while the hardcore wingnuts write nasty emails about him in defense of those three clowns. This is probably the best media PR stunt of the week (or month)!
Posted by: IowaMan on March 21, 2008 at 3:26 PM | PERMALINK
Yeah, I have to agree it was stunt-ish. You saw his trademark Faux-News eyeroll when he repeatedly emphasized that he has "differences" with the Obama campaign? He's like the mirror image of a concern troll: expressing concern to shore up the appearance of neutrality and thereby further authorize the message.

Kevin, what's worse is that they get away with this kind of stuff with guys like you just because the have some guy like Chris Wallace "take one for the team" and go pretend to give a shit once in a while. It's because of people who are placated by this kind of crap that the American Propaganda Channel will go on forever.
Posted by: Swan on March 21, 2008 at 3:41 PM | PERMALINK
I think Chris Wallace is full of shit- he's just "playing another position" on the team.
Posted by: Swan on March 21, 2008 at 3:43 PM | PERMALINK
Fox could run clips 24/7 of Obama farting in the bathtub. Who the f cares what that ass network puts on the air? No one who would vote for Obama would watch that channel anyway. If they do, it's for laughs or they're already smart enough to see the propaganda for what it is.

Or as Jon Stewart (or Stephen Colbert?) said, paraphrasing, "You mean Sean Hannity thinks Barack Obama could be as good a president as Richard Nixon?!"

Hillary Clinton caught in a blatant and not inconsequential, given her claims of "experience", LIE.
David Corn on "the whopper that Hillary Clinton has been telling about a trip she took to Bosnia in 1996. Days ago, she described the visit this way:
"'I remember landing under sniper fire. There was supposed to be some kind of a greeting ceremony at the airport, but instead we just ran with our heads down to get into the vehicles to get to our base.
"The "Factchecker" column of The Washington Post examined this claim on Friday--and showed it to be an outright falsehood. As in completely made up. As in a lie?
"The problem is, the trip was covered by dozens of reporters, including the Post's John Pomfret, and none of them saw anything like Clinton reported:
"A review of nearly 100 news accounts of her visit shows that not a single newspaper or television station reported any security threat to the First Lady. "As a former AP wire service hack, I can safely say that it would have been in my lead had anything like that happened," said Pomfret....
"Far from running to an airport building with their heads down, Clinton and her party were greeted on the tarmac by smiling U.S. and Bosnian officials. An eight-year-old Moslem girl, Emina Bicakcic, read a poem in English. An Associated Press photograph of the greeting ceremony, above, shows a smiling Clinton bending down to receive a kiss....
" CBS News footage of the arrival... shows Clinton walking calmly out of the back of the C-17 military transport plane that brought her from Ramstein Air Force Base in Germany.
"Others who were present--former Major General Bill Nash, comedian Sinbad--also recall that danger was not near during this event. And in her autobiography, Clinton did not mention such drama at Tuzla. The "Factchecker" awarded her four Pinocchio's for her claim. That's the most a politician can earn.
"So why did Hillary Clinton make up such a tale? This is not an instance when a politician did not tell the truth in order to prevent disclosure of negative information. Such un-truthtelling--though not forgivable--are understandable. But to cook up a dramatic but easy-to-check story? There were scores of witnesses to the event. Did she think she could get away with her fiction?"

I am waiting for some fundamentalist to say that Unitarians are not "true Christians" (as they are fairly tolerant and flexible on theology), so Obama could be a Moslem and still attend Unitarian services.
After all, if they threw the Mittster under the bus just for Mormonism, Unitarians have to be fair game !

Gee, I missed that. I was too busy watching the slap-fight between Joe Scarborough and Mika Brzezinski (sp)over the Obama speech. Tiki Barber literally jumped up and rubbed their shoulders to get them to calm down. There's something about the topic of Obama and race relations that just makes some people a little edgy.

I might be tempted to say "Bravo!" to Chris Wallace, were such similar concerns not missing in action during his infamous interview with former President Bill Clinton in September 2006.
Posted by: Donald from Hawaii on March 21, 2008 at 4:56 PM | PERMALINK
H-Bob, no need to wait. My dear departed dad was a Unitarian minister for over 35 years in several congregations, and was a proud and completely non-apologetic atheist. Believe me, fundamentalists were telling him the whole time that he wasn't a true "Christian." I don't think Obama would benefit politically from joining a Unitarian church, given our current societal attitudes about religion.

I only watched the first 30 or 50 seconds of the clip earlier today. That's all I could stand. You still have to put up with the awfulness of seeing the jackal whores of Fox News.
We should bring in some expert on body language and facial expressions, because the even-worse Fox News trash that Wallace addresses just ooze loathesomeness. He speaks to them and you can see their smug little smirking hate faces sneering back at him.
It's like Wallace is the fag member of a fraternity who walks into a room full of people at a party where they've all been talking about him. "Hi, everybody!" "H-i-i-i, Chr-i-i-i-s!"

brucds: "Hillary Clinton caught in a blatant and not inconsequential, given her claims of "experience", LIE. David Corn on 'the whopper that Hillary Clinton has been telling about a trip she took to Bosnia in 1996."
I would suggest that since David Corn wasn't there, that he is doing some serious spinning himself.
According to the National Archives, indications that a sniper was in the vicinity of Tuzla Air Base in Sarajevo on March 25, 1996, and was awaiting the arrival of Mrs. Clinton, did indeed force the cancellation of her welcoming ceremony, where she was to have been greeted by U.S. ambassador John Menzies, a seventh-grade class and an 8-year-old Bosnian girl who was to read a poem to the first lady.
Instead, Mrs. Clinton was taken immediately from her plane to a short meeting with acting Bosnian President Ejup Ganic, followed by a roundtable discussion about the situation in Bosnia that was moderated by Ambassador Menzies.
All told, Mrs. Clinton was in Sarajevo for approximately nine hours that day, and was always accompanied by a full military escort, since the war in Bosnia had only ended a few months before.

Good of Chris to show some character. Unfortunately, when you have the head of the democratic party, Bill Clinton, implying as he did today that Obama doesn't love his country like McCain does, it almost doesn't matter what fox news says about him.
Posted by: Glacier on March 21, 2008 at 8:03 PM | PERMALINK
Donald, here's what Hillary said:
"I remember landing under sniper fire. There was supposed to be some kind of a greeting ceremony at the airport, but instead we just ran with our heads down to get into the vehicles to get to our base."
Here's the video of Hillary actually arriving....no one was running, no one had their head down, instead she walked with Chelsea at her side, and the official greeting took place on the tarmac....
That's not to say that Bosnia was the safest place in the world, but her story of running to their vehicles while taking fire from snipers is ridiculous, and it's another in a series of embellishments like her claims about bringing peace to Northern Ireland and opening Macedonia's borders to fleeing refugees.
Posted by: Joe on March 21, 2008 at 8:38 PM | PERMALINK
Okay, so we know that there was a sniper in the area and it was considered dangerous. Those facts are the root of Clinton's comments. It doesn't appear, given the news reports, the footage or even the National Archives' report, that she will be able to substantiate the "landing under sniper fire" or "running with heads down" business.
The possible exaggeration here is typical of many of Clinton's foreign policy claims, which often seem to be based on truth but veer well into fantasy. I'm more than willing to spot her the extra experience being first lady confers; I don't agree with those who've argued that being first lady, especially a very politically active and engaged first lady like HRC, is worthless in terms of gaining understanding and sometimes practice.
The problem is that she keeps overplaying her hand, which calls her credibility into question and hurts her when these stories don't check out. If she kept it simple and didn't exaggerate her influence, all but the most churlish of anti-Hillary folk would acknowledge that she was a valued member of the Big Dog's administration. But when she spins tales of opening borders that were already opened, dangerous missions to concerts for the troops, negotiating peace at social teas and so on...it ends up making people question her honesty and perhaps even her judgment.

Exactly. If she said "We landed amid reports of snipers in the area", there's nothing anyone could say because it's the truth, and she'd still get credit for going to a dangerous place....that's what makes her embellishment even more dumb.

I just saw Sean Hannity get a huge smackdown from Jack Kemp... "I can't do this" "ad hominem." ... oh it was great. Kemp would have nothing to do with the demagoguery over Wright, and then ended up agreeing with Wright to the effect that we haven't done enough to bring the benefits of capital to Black America. Glorious!!!!

Wallaces' brain 'You know...after much introspect..I am working for a tabloid...I should take my duped peers to task for the two hours of tabloid they enagaged in....enlighten them.
Wallace, "I must respectfully take you to task FOX friends [for your tabloid fever] for your two hour diabtribe on Obama."
"Thanks" Said Gretchen Carlson [Maybe hes right, this isnt new, its tabloid trash...my God, I do need a career after this political soap opera] for not sending that in a email."

This is perhaps analogous to the congressman recently spouting the usual "conservative" criticism about health insurance reform to a group of health insurance execs and he got nothing but silence. IOW, the conservative's weather vanes are all fucked up and they can't figure out what to do about it.
The result is what counts, and the result is not in your favor.

Forever the cynic, color me skeptical. Knowing Chris Wallace has an "Obama Watch" up on his show marking the days since Obama was asked to be on his show makes me suspect this was only for "show" to suck up to Obama to get him on his show where he would revert to his usual attack dog interview. I emailed the show commenting that considering the names Obama has been called on air by the Fox crews--a Halfrican, a Mammy, a domestic insurgent, a Muslim, un-patriotic, un-American, a loser, and comparing him to Chairman Mao and Hitler--it is a obvious why he would not want to appear with Chris.

What they didn't say is that the "sniper" was a Fox reporter with a shotgun mic and an attitude. Dangerous? Probably. Did they need to keep their "heads down"? Definitely.
