FRIDAY CATBLOGGING....I fell down on the job this week, realizing only at the last minute yesterday that I had no catblogging pictures for today. So I hauled out the camera, set the zoom to maximum, and told the cats to smile for their closeups. That's always good for some quick and easy catblogging!

Need more? How about some MRI imagery of the feline brain? It's right here.

Inkblot's looking kind of grumpy. Did optical weenie work him too hard during their campaign tour?

Posted by: thersites on April 25, 2008 at 3:11 PM | PERMALINK

and neither of them blinked.

I've been wondering whether any of you cat lovers have any experience with this product http://www.catgenie.com/

I hope that no one thinks this is an inappropriate venue for this question, but I've seen this advertised on the web, and I'm intrigued but skeptical that my 12 year old cats would understand what it's for.

Ahh, I updated my blog just in time. Here’s this week’s Friday SCATblogging.

Posted by: SocraticGadfly on April 25, 2008 at 3:19 PM | PERMALINK

Inkblot: "The most spiritual human beings, assuming they are the most courageous, also experience by far the most painful tragedies: but it is precisely for this reason that they honor life, because it brings against them its most formidable weapons."

Domino: "Whatever, wide load."

Posted by: Matt on April 25, 2008 at 3:22 PM | PERMALINK

If Inkblot is grumpy it's Kevin's fault. I did not work him hard in campaigning. In fact the tour never took off. Not long after I had gotten him into his suit, pinned on his lapel flagpin, strapped him to the roof of my car and took off, he pooooooooooooped his pants.

So we had to stop and get him out of his suit. The suit is at the dry cleaners, but they are having trouble getting the stain out.

I shipped Inkblot back to Kevin via UPS - as you can see he arrived safely.

Mug shots!

Posted by: CKR on April 25, 2008 at 3:24 PM | PERMALINK

Domino looks grumpier than Inkblot.

I've been really remiss in catblogging lately, need to get some new photos online.

morbidly obesed kitties

Posted by: anon on April 25, 2008 at 3:28 PM | PERMALINK

jeebus -- if you shipped me UPS I'd be grumpy, too. Presidential candidates always go Federal Express.

Posted by: thersites on April 25, 2008 at 3:28 PM | PERMALINK

I predict that this quickie cat-scan will be a record low on the catblogging hit list.

Posted by: Don Bacon on April 25, 2008 at 3:29 PM | PERMALINK

Kevin, if you had included a side-view of these two: they'd look like mug shots.

"jeebus -- if you shipped me UPS I'd be grumpy, too. Presidential candidates always go Federal Express." - Thersites

UPS was cheaper. Inkblot's campaign has limited funds - no one has contributed, not even Kevin.

Grumpy? I say majestic!

Posted by: Kevin Drum on April 25, 2008 at 3:37 PM | PERMALINK

I agree with Kevin, the Inkster is most certainly majestic.

And now - could this be the bimbo we have been waiting for?

Remember folks, this is the national enquirer.

"Majestic" might work for the Churchillian Inkblot, but I'm afraid Domino just can't pull off the curmudgeon act and should smile more.

Posted by: Winnie on April 25, 2008 at 3:45 PM | PERMALINK

Domino displays a certain majestic hauteur, it's true. But Inkblot is annoyed about something.

Posted by: thersites on April 25, 2008 at 3:47 PM | PERMALINK

Is it my imagination, or is Domino starting to resemble Hillary Clinton more and more? That "Get out of my path before I tear you to shreds, you insignificant hairball" look - who does that remind you of?

And before the flames start flying, I say this as someone who was one of HRC's most vociferous defenders, from 1992 up until a couple of months ago.

(When she obviously decided that if SHE couldn't be the nominee, she'd blow the party up rather than lose. )

I'm just saying - look at Domino. Where have you seen that expression before?

Inkblot, however, has far too much gravitas to work as a stand-in for Bill (assuming that he's now poop-free, with gravitas restored after his abortive campaign tour.)

Optical - you need to open a paypal "Inkblot for President" account - I bet you'd get enough to cover the cleaning bills! (With proceeds defaulting to the DNC, of course, if Inkblot takes the high road and ends his candidacy before it damages the party.)

Posted by: mldostert on April 25, 2008 at 3:52 PM | PERMALINK

He's probably annoyed because you have done nothing but nip his campaign in the bud every time it builds up some momentum.

Posted by: optical weenie on April 25, 2008 at 3:52 PM | PERMALINK

It seems as if they disobeyed your order to "smile."

Good kitties.

Posted by: mldostert on April 25, 2008 at 3:52 PM

I thought the same thing. Inkblot does have the look of having far too much gravitas, which would make him (I'm assuming) the Dick Cheney of cats. A look that conveys the serenity that comes from being the all-powerful master of all he surveys. ;)

hey, it wasn't my idea to strap him to the top of the car with his suit on! Don't go pointing paws at me.

Posted by: thersites on April 25, 2008 at 4:43 PM | PERMALINK

Hey, hey. Knock off the "the poosie's are fat" snarks. When they start looking like this:

http://images.teamsugar.com/files/users/10/104166/42_2007/fatcat250.jpg

Maybe you'll have a reason to say something. But just maybe. You ever try to put a hungry cat on a diet? I'd rather cuddle with barbed wire. They'll find something to eat, even if it's all your house plants.

Posted by: on April 25, 2008 at 4:44 PM | PERMALINK

It's a well known fact that it is nearly impossible to put a cat on a diet.

I speak from experience, I had an 18 pounder at one time, who shared the house with a 9 pounder.
Both lived well into their very late teens.

Posted by: optical weenie on April 25, 2008 at 4:48 PM | PERMALINK

I once had a cat who had hyperthyroid, which made her lose weight until she was extremely thin (she was allergic to the usual treatment). Plump kitties are a much happier picture than ones that are wasting away.

BTW, I like the closeups on the faces. Cat faces can be highly expressive, and these pictures give me much more of a feel for the cats' personalities than the long shots.

Posted by: jimBOB on April 25, 2008 at 5:02 PM | PERMALINK

Maine Coon Cats get as big as 25+ pounds. Depends on genetics, much like humans. A friend of mine had one and every time the cat jumped off a chair and landed on the floor, the dishes in the china cabinet rattled.

Posted by: Joshua Norton on April 25, 2008 at 5:03 PM | PERMALINK

I love the close-ups. Like jimBOB said, they give a feel for the cats' personalities.

G'night, jimBOB.

A cat is a lion in a jungle of small bushes.
- Indian Proverb

The MRI left off the part of the car brain that always puts the cat on the wrong side of a door.

Domino, Regal goddess, consents to a pose.

Posted by: James on April 25, 2008 at 6:51 PM | PERMALINK

Jeebus, it's true. I hate cats, but I'm always the first person in a room they come and brush up against, purring like a clockwork submarine. Probably rubbing something toxic on me. The swines.

Great pictures. Thanks for cheering up Fridays!

Posted by: phoebes on April 25, 2008 at 8:03 PM | PERMALINK

Felines on Fridays are felicitious.

And just plain fun!

Posted by: Vincent on April 25, 2008 at 8:29 PM | PERMALINK

Oh, those two faces just make me wanna smooch 'em cute widdle uggms woogms, widdle sweet kittie-widdies.

Me mum passed away last night (expectedly) and I just would like to say good-bye to her and her birds, and to apologize once more for the one my cat ate.

They say in the next life that lions shall lay with the lambs, and (I hope, I hope) the parakeets shall not taunt the felines by landing near their mouths.

I always thought those feathers from heaven were actually from the wings of angels but now I've got to wondering...Mom got up there ahead of me with a passel of her parakeets who have "gone before" and I'll be headed up meself one day with a passel o' cats and.....

Mother's day is May 11, BTW :)

Posted by: Zit on April 25, 2008 at 8:59 PM | PERMALINK

PS: Why will lions lay with lamps again?

Posted by: Zit again on April 25, 2008 at 9:01 PM | PERMALINK

Oh my, making the kitty smile for a photo-op on short notice. Why not just skip the whole thing?

Their are both pissed and it's quite clear. Oh my!

So sorry, Zit.

I think the lions like the heat from the bulbs. Don't know how they'll cope with compact fluorescents...

I wasn't aware a cat brain was large enough to need a map. It's sort of like having a map of the corner of Walk and Don't Walk.

Damn, I'm so serious about little kids with brain damage. They need your help.

Ann from Indiana: I don't have experience with the Cat Genie, but I did purchase one of the competing models. It barely lasted a few days. My one scaredy-cat (of the two I have) saw it working once and refused to go any where near it (or the room it was in). So don't bother if you have timid cats.

It's funny, the thin line we walk between sanity and insanity:

If a man takes a lot of pictures of his cats, he is insane.

But if he posts a lot of those pictures on the Internet for others to see, he is considered sane.

CK One.

Wow, you actually got them both to look at the camera. Mine never do that.

Posted by: Emily on April 26, 2008 at 11:08 PM | PERMALINK

Wow, and here I was expecting this thread to have turned into a massive flamewar over which cat is more electable.

Posted by: Anderson on April 27, 2008 at 3:43 PM | PERMALINK

Beautiful pictures, pretty boys.

Posted by: JWC on April 27, 2008 at 6:22 PM | PERMALINK

It has probably been up for a while, but if there is any chance any of you fellow cat lovers haven't seen it yet, by all means look up "An Engineer's Guide to Cats" now on YouTube. You will howl!
