QUOTE OF THE DAY....From Judah Grunstein, commenting on Israeli prime minister Ehud Olmert's legal troubles:
I don't know a whole lot about Israeli campaign finance laws, but I imagine that suitcases full of cash that go undeclared until a police raid on your home probably violate them.
I dunno. Olmert sure doesn't seem to think so.

It's too bad the United States doesn't hold it's leaders accountable for their criminal activities.

Oh, don't be so ethnocentric.

I can go along with one suitcase, but beyond that, write a check.

Politics is like a gang that requires you to kill someone to play, but then documents the killing to threaten you with, if you get out of line.
Every major Israeli candidate has corruption skeletons. (Netanyahu has similar, Olmert, Peres had them, look what is happening with Shas).
Not too different than the US. "I get most of my money from small donations" (600 million, but ignore the 40 million I get from the PACS).
At least Israeli campaigns are short and theoretically less dependant on big bucks if they wanted to clean up their act.
