That ActBlue fund to fight the FISA sell-out is really stackin' up quite a war chest. As best I can tell, they've pulled in $110,000 in the last 36 hours (ish). Not too shabby.
I put down one-fitty myself. I'm thinking about maybe putting down a bit more.
(Hmm... How much is the 4th Amendment worth to me?)

So what if the telecoms spy on you, you get picked up for being an "enemy combatant", they stick flashlights up your @ss and you "disappear" forever without anyone knowing what happened.
At least you know you will be SAFE!

Good on you, Patrick. It's too bad private citizens have to pay out of their own pocket to have someone fight for the Constitution, when our elected officials are supposed to do that with our tax dollars...
I guess all of our tax dollars are going to Blackwater, KBR, Halliburton, et al.

If the Democrats cave on the immunity provision at this point, it's going to be awfully hard to summon up the energy to work to elect more Democrats. They really don't have any excuse. They don't even have to offer alternative legislation.
It's a no-brainer. I hope the Blue Dogs don't exhibit negative brain behavior.

cowalker - calm down, don't worry, you get used to that flashlight up your @ss after a while and when we are all rounded up into FEMA Detention Camps, we won't need the Internet or bloggin' - we can tap messages to each other in secret code on the walls and pipes.
When dur chimpfurher fully implements the police state and seizes permanent control of Amerika, we can all be happy drones.

Why are the dems in Congress doing this?? What is the dang rush?? We're perfectly fine with regular ol' FISA until we get a new democratic president and a bigger majority in Congress in January. THEN we should take an objective look at it (and, in my, opinion, reject additional surveillance than that under regular ol' FISA and allow suits against the telecoms who aided and abetted unconstitutional spying).,

The Netroots will not forget this. The $50 I contributed today is a small percentage of what I'm going to contribute to Hoyer's strongest primary challenger in 2010 if he goes through with this blatant sellout and capitulation.
Vote wisely, House Democrats. We're watching and taking names.

Speculation on motives:
Steny Hoyer is doing a perfect imitation of a man with something important that must be kept hidden. In this, his behavior matches that of the President. I'd guess that if the telecoms disclose under subpoena exactly what they've done for the Administration, that we'll find that Hoyer and Rockefeller are criminally complicit in some fashion (and that BushCo belongs in prison. But we knew that already, right?)
Blue dogs, on the other hand, are still so terrified from 9/11 that they're eager to institute a more authoritarian state so that they can feel safe.

Or, they, like Rockefeller and Carney, are simply too invested in protecting their campaign donors from actually being held accountable for criminality. Think Republicans and Bush...

It's so unbelievably dispiriting.

This is a disgusting betrayal and backstabber Steny Hoyer (D-Sellout) has demonstrated his true loyalties.
Yes, a primary challenge is in order at a minimum. I'd be proud to contribute money if it excises a hemorrhoid like Hoyer from Congress. How dare that SOB protect Telcos instead of citizen privacy.

Well this is where we find out if Obama can lead or not?
This is where Obama either makes it or breaks it. Talk is big but if Obama can't act, he is screwed. Is Obama another Jimmy Carter or not?
