FRIDAY CATBLOGGING....On the left, Inkblot is sniffing around in the great Irvine jungle. Maybe a bird will miraculously fly into his mouth or something? On the right, the late afternoon shadows show off Domino's ears to great advantage. Or so she thinks.

And now, we're off to the fair! Have a good weekend, everyone.

Kevin,
Don't forget to bring me and Domino our deep fried treats - bacon wrapped scallops and bacon wrapped trout.

Posted by: Inkblot on August 1, 2008 at 3:29 PM | PERMALINK

Did Domino just finish watching The Dark Knight?

Posted by: ninja3000 on August 1, 2008 at 3:31 PM | PERMALINK

Or the ultimate cat treat- bacon-wrapped bacon. Or is that trout-wrapped trout?

Posted by: Yancey Ward on August 1, 2008 at 3:32 PM | PERMALINK

Also, since the discovery of the "Foreclosure Cat", I will no longer make fun of your cats' not-so-massive girths.

Posted by: Yancey Ward on August 1, 2008 at 3:38 PM | PERMALINK

Inkblot is just too cute in this picture. I wonder if people will decide not to vote for him because he is cuter than they are, or cuter than their cats.

Have fun at the fair, Kevin.

Kevin, the wit of your pen has placed those kitties right where they belong! /sarcasm

Enjoy your well-deserved trip to the fair!

That's the best Inkblot photo yet. Wow.

Posted by: tom veil on August 1, 2008 at 3:57 PM | PERMALINK

Inkblot seems like a fellow I could share some catnip with. He's got my vote, even if he is cute and partly black.
That Domino looks sort of sinister, though. And what is it with you cat owners with the white carpets?

Posted by: thersites' cat, shadow on August 1, 2008 at 4:17 PM | PERMALINK

Something's been bothering me for months about these cheese-eating surrender cats. How come "Inkblot" is a white-on-black cat, while "Domino" is nearly all black? Shouldn't their names be the other way around?

P.S. Despite this coded appeal to the politics of color, I am *not* playing the race card.

Is Ben blowing the cat-whistle?

The Dark Knight

I doubt Mr. Drum will paint Inkblot's face with Joker makeup.

Posted by: Brojo on August 1, 2008 at 6:56 PM | PERMALINK

Inkblot looks thin. Must be arrogant and presumptuous.

Domino is black. Must be trying to start a race war and get it on with Britney and Paris.

What a week. I'd say I'm glad it's over except that next week will be worse.

I replaced "clippy" with the cat as my MS Office Assistant. Whatever you think of Microsquash, this caticon is cute. It meows, purrs, it turns around to sit down. It licks itself and even paws over its ear after awhile, and if you leave it alone long enough goes to sleep! (Still not sure if male or female, maybe there's an "Easter egg" way to tell?)
Go ahead and love it, you don't have to be a humorless Gatesbasher all the time.

I laughed at your comment about a bird flying into Inkblot's mouth, Kevin. My dearly departed orange tabby Harvey once ran into the house with a bird in his mouth. Since it had never happened before (and did not after) we could only conclude that he'd yawned & a bird had indeed flown into his mouth. He looked as surprised about it as we did. We'd love to give him credit for catching the bird but having known him for 15 years it's really the only plausible explanation.

Shadow of Batcat? or, Sauron's Tower? (Where is that all seeing eye!)

BATCAT!! Beware caped crusaders.

I've just seen your blog for the first time. Inkblot is the spitting image of a previous cat of mine, Rodney. He was gorgeous, he died 3 years ago age 17 and I still really miss him. If Inkblot is anything like him he'll shed white fur, everywhere, all year round...

My orange tabby died suddenly of a heart attack yesterday. Just thinking about cats right now is painful. It's astounding how much you can miss a pet.

David H: When we lived in Cambridge, our now-departed Comrade once brought home a frozen pigeon. We weren't sure if he wanted us to microwave it or what, but overall Mrs. T. was not amused at the time.

My brother owns a cat that is strictly an indoor pet. When he moved from a condo to a small house on acreage, he used wire fencing to enclose part of the deck to give her a safe outdoor space.

Under the circumstances, you wouldn't expect her to be much of a hunter, but I recently learned she has become quite good at catching birds and rodents. Apparently she uses the cat door as a hunting blind, pushing it open just far enough to watch for small animals to wander onto the deck then dashing out to make the kill.

Buck, my condolences. As someone who's lost a pet himself, I know it's never easy.

Posted by: Vincent on August 2, 2008 at 4:54 PM | PERMALINK

My sympathy, Buck. We all know how hard it is to lose our furry loved ones, especially when it happens suddenly. I hope your happy memories of your sweet friend will provide some consolation.

Posted by: disparue on August 2, 2008 at 7:27 PM | PERMALINK

Love them kitties. I always drop by on Friday (or Saturday)... and sometimes every day. But I never miss the kitties.

Posted by: JWC on August 2, 2008 at 7:30 PM | PERMALINK

Hi, Buck,

Thinking about you. We lost our adored dog just as suddenly several months ago and I understand just how deep the loss goes. May the time between now and when your pain is tempered--and outweighed--by happy memories pass quickly.

Thanks shortstop, disparue, and vincent. I appreciate the condolences. I'm a longtime lurker, who hit the Friday Cat Blogging in a tender state.

Posted by: Buck on August 3, 2008 at 3:39 PM | PERMALINK

Sorry about your loss, Buck. Wait a while then think about adopting a rescue cat (or two). It won't "replace" Buck but will add to your memory of him..
