MEMOS!....Ah. I see that yet another slashing expose of the chaotic Hillary Clinton campaign is coming our way, and apparently people are worried:

Of particular concern are nearly 200 internal memos that the author, Josh Green, obtained — 130 or so of which he plans to scan in and post online. When the piece is published sometime next week, readers will be able to scroll through the memos, from senior strategists such as Mark Penn, Harold Ickes and Geoff Garin, and see what exactly was going on inside the infamously fractured Clinton organization. That has some former team members in a panic.

Man, somebody from the Clinton organization sure does hold a grudge. Maybe somebody who used to be part of the inner circle and then had a falling out? Somebody who hasn't talked to Hillary for months? Hmmm. I wonder who it could be?

Also: why only 130 of the 200 memos? What is Josh Green trying to hide?

He's excluding all the emaisl that say things like "OMG!!!!! You have to read this and pass it on!!!" and "Dude, I was so wasted last night I dreamed that I was Hillary" and "Do you think I could get a job with the McCain campaign?"

Ok, the last one's worth printing.

The other 70 memos were messages from Mark Penn, urging everyone to go out and buy his new book.

That campaign had some really vile juju.

I think it's bad karma to put that kind of stuff out there.

I hope you are not implying it is Patti Solis Doyle. She and Clinton are supposedly on good terms. Or were you thinking it was Mark Penn?

Kevin, remember that Hillary was once "inevitable." Her loss of the nomination is a historical fuckup.

Second: there were some big names working for her.

Therefore: the blame game will be fought as a matter of life and death because, professionally, it is.

Josh better watch his back.

If the way in which you run your primaries is a test of your instincts, your managerial skills and your ability to strategize effectively - then HRC failed miserably on all counts ...

That campaign was havoc.

Too bad all the Kewl Kidz who thought her nomination was inevitable forgot to check with the voters. Definitely messed up their careet plans.

The demise of DLC electoral 'experts' may do more for the progressive cause than even an Obama election in November. It will certainly help future Democratic candidates.

If there was any chance of HRC getting vp (I don't think there was much), this is another nail in the coffin.

bah. who cares. there's nothing to be gained for anyone except McCain, by picking these scabs.

Posted by: cleek on August 8, 2008 at 12:54 PM | PERMALINK

What a clever way to unify Democrats. As if voters aren't divided enough.

Is Josh Green a closet Republican??

Posted by: mollycoddle on August 8, 2008 at 12:57 PM | PERMALINK

Grand Moff is correct, historians will study the mechanics of the Hillary Clinton candidacy, not only because she lost, but because of what it showed about the existing Democratic elites. GWB was able to throw his weight around during his time in office in no small part because the Democratic establishment was so sclerotic and incompetent.

All that stuff about a historical defeat, the long overdue demise of the DLC, etc., etc., is a given. This campaign absolutely is one for the books, as are the complicated and wildly dysfunctional interpersonal relationships that powered it, but letting a little time pass before too much further analysis might be the better part of wisdom.

So, mostly I agree with cleek: water under the bridge in view of our current task. But part of me, the same part that Kravitzes the weird guy across the street when he leaves the building wearing a sports bra and jeans and gesticulating wildly to himself, really wants to know now just WTF Mark Penn was thinking.

Let's give Kevin some props for launching what will soon become the biggest parlor game since Deep Throat - Who Leaked to Josh Green?

To play, you will have to go back to Green's earlier articles on Hillary and figure out who his sources were. Then you eliminate the ones who got jobs with Obama. (so forget Doyle, Tanden, and most of the field staff.) Then, using a point system, you rate remaining suspects based on such factors as inner-circle access, rage at personal treatment, absence of personal affection for/feeling of betrayal by HRC; and so on.

Fun for the whole family! That is, if your family is so obsessed with insider-baseball politics that they only go outside for leafleting purposes.

Hillary leaked the emails because she still thinks she can win.

And if she doesn't, then she will be sure Obama loses.

And of course, she won't throw the crap in public. It will be behind the scenes with her people and her media lapdogs.

This fucking bitch is set on being sure Obama loses so she can run against McCain in four years.

Posted by: Ken on August 8, 2008 at 1:50 PM | PERMALINK

Obviously Joe Klein leaked. This is Primary Colors Part Deux.

Funny how front-leading candidates (Dean, Giuliani) fall once voters get our say. Overconfidence (hubris) can put anyone down.

Plus Penn was an idiot, and anyone who put him in charge has to wear the scarlet I, too.

Posted by: Cal Gal on August 8, 2008 at 1:51 PM | PERMALINK

In light of the Edwards story it could be the two are part of one strategy to eliminate these two from the public's short-list for veep. That opens the door more widely for some others to be considered. This, just when Obama is on his way to sunny Hawaii. I guess he's on his way, isn't he?

Or, maybe it's just a coincidence. In politics those are rare, but it is possible.

Posted by: MarkH on August 8, 2008 at 4:59 PM | PERMALINK

Ken at 1:50 PM posted: "...This fucking bitch is set on Obama losing...
At least Sen. Clinton voted against the FISA abortion; something that the Senator from Illinois failed to do - after promising on more than one occasion to support a filibuster to prevent it.
Of course, by that time he had already sewn up the nomination. Does that mean he supports the Constitution only during campaigns?
(The last sentence is in response to the intemperateness of the poster.)

Posted by: Doug on August 8, 2008 at 5:10 PM | PERMALINK

Obama is the one to be hurt. Why?

All those memos describing his 'weak points' or points of vulnerability that the Clinton people wanted to exploit.

So what's the MSM meme during the convention?

Hey! lookit all the Obama bad in these memos!

And lookit the Clintons, basking in the limelight for 2 nights, stolen from Obama (now just how did they bludgeon him into this?)

Likely TV-time image: Candy Stomach-Clamp Crowley, reading the negatives on Obama on CNN, graph by graph, a lear on her face.

MEME: party's hopelessly divided. All this kissy-face is a fraud.

(IS HE READY TO LEAD? Twilight Zone theme)
