JOHN McCAIN'S HOMES....This is just straight-up DNC propaganda, but it's still pretty funny. As a friend remarks, "This is heaven sent for the Dem Convention. Couldn't you just see Ann Richards (RIP) running with this line?"

Kevin, if it's true, how is it "DNC propaganda?"

Ok... This is clearly not something they came up with in the last 24 hours... This whole thing is starting to look like it was planned at least a few days ago.
These guys are good. I'm guess the VP pick is going to be someone that can hit McCain on the economy. But who?

Maybe it's DNC Propaganda, but who cares? Sheesh, even we fair-minded, always-take-the-high-road types like to kick the Republicuns in the balls once in a while. Let's go viral!

I'll have my staff get back to you on whether or not it's Democratic propaganda. In the meantime, I love it.
Didn't one of Obama's Senate opponents implode in a sex scandal involving his TV actress wife? Obama never, ever leaves a hit of red.

They need a realistic image of McCain. That troll(I know)is way too young.

Look, we've established that the only info that gets through to people who are stup...who are cluele...who are poorly infor...who are much too busy to keep track of minor things like government is simple, shocking and highly symbolic messages. There is no need to apologize for using this. It's a beautiful microcosm of what's wrong with McCain and the GOP.

Man, the G.I. Bill must have been really generous back in the Vietnam War days!

Aping the GOP is not clever, it's pathetic, although when it comes to trivia in lieu of substantive political discourse, no one tops Kevin.
This bullshit is far from hitting back at Republicans.

The sad thing is Hon. Sen. McCain's wife's wealth wasn't a secret before, and we've been talking about it for months, but it doesn't become a story until the Senator himself gaffs it up. I'm open to the fact that this isn;t really a story (although he asked for it with all of his BS ads), but why is so much more of a story now than two days ago? Its as if the MSM was afraid of being biased in reporting the facts unless Mr. McCain does something to immunize them.

Actually, the Architectural Digest spread wasn't about the Sedona estate, it was about ANOTHER home in Phoenix.
Hard to keep track..

Shouldn't there be a measure of untruthiness to qualify as "propaganda"?
McCain and the Republicans tried to smear Obama as an elitist. Well, people with dozens of glass houses shouldn't throw stones.
Posted by: Jeffrey Davis on August 21, 2008 at 3:10 PM | PERMALINK
McCain's problem is not that he is rich. He isn't by John and Teresa Kerry standards. The problem is that he is so f**king clueless he has no idea how many houses he owns. In an America where millions are losing their homes that level of disconnect can't go unnoticed even by the press.
Posted by: Ron Byers on August 21, 2008 at 3:10 PM | PERMALINK
Thanks for asking, Ron.
I first lost my humor when Bush stole the 2000 election and lost it altogether when Bush was re-elected, in no small part due to misfeasants like Drum, Yglesia, Marshall, the DLC, etc.
Like Nero, they fiddle while Rome burns and people die needlessly in a foreign land having nothing to do with 9/11.
...but thanks for asking, Ron.

Without the garden gnome it's pure truth.
With the garden gnome it's propaganda.
Unless, of course, the McCain's do have a garden gnome in one of their front yards.
But I think Architectural Digest frowns on such things.
Posted by: lampwick on August 21, 2008 at 3:26 PM | PERMALINK
Generally, I don't think that a candidate's wealth alone is really much of an issue. I mean, we're never going to have a presidential candidate who makes the medium income.
But I do care about a president's policies towards the non-wealthy, and his views about the non-wealthy. So yeah, when Mccain says that making under $5 million a year isn't rich, well, I'd say it's fair game.
(Incidentally, I don't really think McCain's that clueless about how the wealthy/non-wealthy live. I think he just set a ridiculously high bar for richness as a way to make his policies seem more palatable. And to try to make it into a "class warfare" game that scares the middle/upper-middle/upper classes. Hitting him back on his extreme wealth seems like a pretty good strategy to avoid his framing.)

I love this stuff. Ron Byers: "McCain's problem is not that he is rich. He isn't by John and Teresa Kerry standards." Lets see: McCains ~100 million. Kerrys ~500 million. I'm sorry- I thought there was a cutoff on this stuff- like when you have to use nine digits to describe two couples' wealth, one can't be described as rich and the other not rich - they're both rich.

Posted by: fafner1 on August 21, 2008 at 3:54 PM | PERMALINK
Well now it is easy to see how McCain became confused about how many houses he owns. The Sedona compound has five houses on the grounds, so do you count that as one home or five? And they have two condos in Coronado, so does that count as one or two?
It's like when I'm shopping at the supermarket and have 12 of the same item and don't know if I should get into the 10 items or less express line.
It's all so perfectly understandable now.

Listen anyone who doesn't know exactly how many houses they own is either a blithering idiot or they have too many. He didn't say around ten or I have over 25 or at least 50 he said you'll have to check with my staff to get that. C'mon he owns what ten houses not 500. Does anyone in their right mind expect this bungling fool to run the country anymore competantly then bush and his crew of rocket scientists?

I think Obama should watch his back now. McCain may drop "Obama

Yep, Ann sure got off a great zinger on Bush Sr!
Of course, Bush Jr. beat her for gov, and went on to the White House for two terms, so maybe Papa Bush had the last laugh.
As far as a "gotcha" moment, this is ok, but not nearly as good as the John Kerry "its not my SUV, it's my FAMILY'S SUV".
I think Obama will be president, but not this time.
Give him a decade or so to distance himself from sleazy Chicago players like Rezko, terrorist scum like Ayers, and left wing crazies like, well, you guys, and he is a shoe-in.
Obama for President, 2024. You heard it here first.

Yes, because Republicans had absolutely no plans to talk about Rezko this fall. Right.
I think Obama should watch his back now. McCain may drop "Obama Hearts Rezko" fliers from his liquor-heiress wife's jet while jetting from one of McCain's multi-million dollar homes to one of his other multi-million dollar homes.
This kinda plan can't fail, I tells ya!
Posted by: afferent input on August 21, 2008 at 5:32 PM | PERMALINK
Freddoso actually has a better book than Corsi and I would be careful about trying to make him go away with ridicule. Of course, you are welcome to hum kumbaya to yourself until the Rezko story makes the NY Times.
If I were a serious Democrat, I would be very worried about Obama coming apart as more and more facts come out. But you keep hugging yourself and we will see what happens.
You might look at some of the Chicago papers' coverage of these stories and wonder how long it will be before the cover-up comes apart like the Edwards cover-up.
Good luck.

McCain is rich by my standards, and by the standards of nearly everybody in the world. I have heard that Teresa Heinz Kerry is worth about 1.2 billion (seven zeros) so yea compared to her Cindy McCain is just near rich.

McCain's latest defense is that none of this should count because they aren't his estates, mansions and penthouses, they're his wife's....though I'm not sure that "in reality I'm merely an aging penniless gigolo who lives off my much younger wife's money" is the defense I would have chosen.....
Look, if Gigolo John is going to run and hide behind his wife's skirts just because he can't stand a little teasing, what's he going to do when Putin mocks him? Gotta keep your sense of humor.....

Actually the figure is called 'The Roaming Gnome' -- it does come from the Travelocity ads, (copyright infringement? If not, then I want my 'McCain as Yosemite Sam' t-shirts made up), and -- practicing my pedantry before Steve shows up tomorrow -- it comes from what was a fad-type of prank of 'kidnapping' a garden gnome and taking it on a foreign trip and sending back pictures of it posed in different foreign locations.
Kevin, best of luck on your new job, but you have a worthy successor.

If Rethug trolls want to talk about the Heinz-Kerry v. Cindy McCain angle...
Teresa Heinz Kerry did not date a still married man with a sick wife.
Teresa Heinz Kerry never stole drugs from her charities to feed her drug habit.
Neither of Heinz Kerry's husbands were ever implicated in a bribery scandal.
Teresa Heinz Kerry is a strong, smart, and independent woman. The trajectory of her early life show that she would have been something even if she led a life without much money.
The Heinz fortune came from making useful (if not always healthful) stuff. Sounds a hell of a lot more worthwhile than a fortune built on beer distribution.
Teresa Heinz Kerry married a man who knows how many residences he had.

so who cares how many homes McCain has?? It looks like they are all in the U.S.A. and possibly all in Arizona. Edwards, Gore and Kerry all have homes that are way above most peoples PAYSCALES, oh, Obama also.
The reason so many people are in default on their homes is that they have over bought on homes. They think that they have to have so much in a home then can't make the payments.
