WEDNESDAY'S CAMPAIGN ROUND-UP....Today's installment of campaign-related news items that wouldn't generate a post of their own, but may be of interest to political observers:

* The Rocky Mountain News has the latest details on how the roll-call vote at the Democratic convention this evening is probably going to work.

* On Friday, Obama and Biden will kick off a bus tour, traveling first to Pennsylvania, followed by stops in Ohio and Michigan.

* Michael Dukakis told Katie Couric yesterday: "I owe the American people an apology. If I'd beaten the old man, we would have never heard of the kid, and we wouldn't be in this mess." Laughing, he added, "So, it's all my fault."

* No, Springsteen won't perform at Invesco tomorrow night.

* Bob Novak doesn't want to see a McCain-Lieberman ticket.

* Pat Leahy thinks McCain's confusion is reminiscent of Reagan's, circa 1987.

* Sen. Ted Stevens (R) of Alaska survived a primary challenge yesterday.

* A Brown University poll shows Obama leading McCain in Rhode Island by 21, 51% to 30%.

Well, it's not quite clear that Young really survived. There are still about 8,000 absentee ballots that could still arrive in the next week or so. Given the margin of victory is less than 200 votes, we likely won't know who really won for another few days.

No, Springsteen won't perform at Invesco tomorrow night.

I'm devastated.

For those gamblin' folks out there I found this which looks about as reliable as the current polls.

Ted Stevens may have survived the primary, but Don Young might very well be out. Still too close to call, but we can hope.

leading "by 32, 51% to 30%"

Huh?

Somebody needs to sub out the math bits to Nate Silver.

That's 21, not 32.

I think 32 instead of 21 is not a math error but a keyboard error - right relationship between the two numbers, but slightly to the right. OMG, Steve! Are you moving toward the center ... of your keyboard?!

I think 32 instead of 21 is not a math error but a keyboard error.

Yep. It's fixed.

Dukakis is aging well. Very robust and articulate. You can tell he feels passionate about this election. As well he should. It is now or never for the good guys.

Hillary's speech last night is good news for the GOP.

I love the fact that the GOP is rallying around poor Hillary. Das Base hates her, she hates them.

"Why isn't she the vice-presidential candidate. Why isn't she the presidential candidate," he added, once again picking at the Democrat's wounds with many Clinton supporters still distraught at her defeat.

He said on Fox and Friends he had been convinced that Obama would pick Clinton as his running mate and "I couldn't understand why he would organize a convention to give the Clintons two nights and then diss Hillary as vice-president."

Go Rudi, go Rudi.

"Don Young might very well be out"

Which would reduce Dem pickup chances in Alaska, since it's easier to run against Young's baggage.

As Rhode Island goes, so goes the nation.

The deal has been struck - McCain is going to get wall-to-wall support from the mainstream media.

Begin to prepare for a McCain presidency, which inevitably will mean endless war and a serious global depression. Only catastrophe will finally educate these dumb fucking Americans as to how seriously the GOP has fucked up this country....

No, Springsteen won't perform at Invesco tomorrow night.

Too bad, that would have been quite an honor for Obama. Not just anyone can open for Springsteen.

Novak doesn't want to see a McCain-Lieberman ticket?

Is he still alive? That must be the brain cancer talking. Why else would he advocate against such a perfect fit for McCain?

Steve,

I see you are going back and claiming the comment pages as your own, replacing Kevin's name one page at a time. Thats' a classic symptom of a power grab, you know. Erase the brand of the previous owner and replace it with your own.

Oh, wait. Just did a preview. Kevins' name still appears on the masthead of the "Preview Comment" Page. You've just missed that page.

* Pat Leahy thinks McCain's confusion is reminiscent of Reagan's, circa 1987. -- PA

Good on Leahy. Even tough he's backtracked, it's now out there in the open. Hopefully, McCain's campaign will take -- public and vocal -- offense and will keep it alive for a bit.

* Sen. Ted Stevens (R) of Alaska survived a primary challenge yesterday. -- PA

Excellent. Now, let's hope that Young survives his, too. As Grumpy pointed out (@13:09), those two have enough dirt baggage on them to make it that much easier for Dems to bury them.
