STILL HIDING.... The Politico's Michael Calderone offers a look at the lineups for the Sunday-morning talk shows:
Joe Biden will be making his first appearance on "Meet the Press" this Sunday since joining the Democratic ticket, an NBC spokesperson just confirmed.
As mentioned earlier, Obama will be on "This Week" and McCain on "Face the Nation."
So when's Palin's turn?
Why, what a good question. When is Palin's turn?
Prior to last night, McCain campaign handlers could, with varying degrees of credibility, argue that Palin couldn't sit down for media interviews because she was prepping for last night's speech. That's not exactly compelling, but that was their story and they were sticking to it.
But they're going to need new excuses to keep Palin hidden from questions. It's not a sustainable approach.

Her first appearance will probably be a taped interview with a Fox News personality like Hannity.

Palin will NEVER be interviewed anywhere other than Fox noise. Mark it down.

What?! I can't do those shows, I have an infant child to take care of. Also, I don't do things just to please the Washington media. And those are just for "celebrities". And I'm too busy reforming Alaska, and telling Congress "Thanks but No Thanks". And praying. And having *responsibilities*, unlike community organizers.

Oh, there's plenty of other whores on the other networks. Maybe ABC News will have Halperin worship her.

The rejoinder to every "she has as much if not more experience than Obama" should be Obama first answered questions on a Sunday talk show on ___, and has appeared __ times since." When is Palin going on her first?

I think they'll tape interviews as Mitch suggested, and that will be it. They only have to hide her for a few months. Her advisors can answer questions. Shouldn't be hard for them to pull this off. Of course, the debate will be an utter disaster, but remember that the soft bigotry of low expectations will be prevalent for the debate. Remember Bush not completely screwing up, and everyone cheering? Get ready for more of that kind of cheering.

Are you kidding me? Palin is, as we speak, in Pakistan hunting down Bin Laden with the Alaska National Guard as her back-up. She was McCain's secret plan the whole time! Needless to say, she's also knitting a perpetual motion device to fix our energy problem while putting the finising touch on our annexation of Canada (they'll be a territory, not unlike Guam). And did I mention that she has Putin in a headlock? She does. And he's been crying like a baby the whole time.
And you guys think she has time for the media!

Watch for a suspicious rectangular bulge on Palin's back during her debate with Biden.

For a pit bull, she sure seems like quite the scaredy-cat.
And look who's whining about sexism now! Hilarious. She has all the courage of Rush Limbaugh - talks real big when there's no one around to rebut her, but oddly silent when the whiff of a differing opinion happens to wander nearby.

She's busy teaching teenaged girls that having babies is their punishment for Original Sin.
She's busy teaching poor teenaged girls who get pregnant that they should live in want and provide their children with limited medical care, while rich teenaged girls who get pregnant are Beloved of God because they are the Elect.
Being a vengeful, judgmental hypocrite is hard, time-consuming work.
Cut the lady some slack, yuh SEXISTS!!!

She'll be on the Sunday talk shows this week. No "journalist" will dare call her on her factually incorrect comments. That would be "sexist." As long as she can tell lies, she'll do fine in those interviews.

Will Bob Schieffer bother to ask McCain a substantial question about Palin or simply bow to the almighty POW. Will he sit idly by while McCain claims she has national security experience by osmosis?
FYI, Biden was on Morning Joe this morning; he was also on 60 Minutes last Sunday.

You. Fail. Reading. Again.
It's his first appearance on "Meet the Press," since his selection, not his first appearance since the selection. Reading are fun.

She's been trying to figure out if Bush's speechwriter can give her prepared answers to questions on MTP.
All snark aside, I think you can count the right-wingnuts claiming that she'll have won the debate with Biden. They will do so purely on style points, and the mediots on the MSM will agree.

This post is in reference to an article in Politico written by someone named "Michael Calderone". You'll notice, if you're very clever (and I'm sure you are...you read 1940s distopian literature!), that "Michael Calderone" is not, I repeat NOT the same person as "Barack Obama"
So I guess when you said "Leave it to the Barak to victimize another woman" what you REALLY meant was "leave it to Michael Calderone to vicitimize another woman" right??
thank you for your attention.

Here's an alternative, somewhat conspiracy-theory-related idea: they delay her making an appearance on one of the big Sunday shows, as opposed to an interview with O'Reilly or Larry King, for as long as possible and limit her access to the press in almost every way possible. Say this lasts another three weeks, or about a week before the vice presidential debate. Perhaps she goes on one of the shows and makes a mistake. She then goes into the debates with absurdly low expectations because she screwed up something major and looked like a fool or because nobody knows what to think. She doesn't make any major mistakes, even if she doesn't answer the questions or gives insanely sophomoric answers. She comes out looking better than she did before, which is a plus for the McCain camp. And then the campaign goes back to hiding her for another few weeks, because the election is only a month away.
Of course, that's a very cynical notion, but it doesn't strike me as something that's out of bounds.

What's the difference between McCain's VP pick and Obama's?
McCain's is pale-in comparison.
Get it?
Posted by: Jake on September 4, 2008 at 4:15 PM | PERMALINK
Hopefully I'm wrong; but I don't think this is gonna really be a problem for the Palin campaign.
She'll do a pre-taped interview on Fox, at least one. Then she'll make an appearance or two on the Today show or GMA -- maybe appear on some other soft talk shows.
Since she so rarely gives interviews the other networks will be forced to replay clips of these appearances. So she'll still get plenty of exposure, but never in any difficult circumstances.
And in the meantime she'll be prepping for the debate, while Schmidt & co. work the refs as much as possible to make sure none of the questions are too hardball. She'll have been coached to answer competently enough on the tough questions the moderators feel compelled to ask, and then she'll throw out a few zingers at Biden and about Obama. Those zingers will get a ton of press replay. She's charismatic and quick enough to make it through the debate just fine. There's probably a better chance that Joe Biden says something stupid.
Or maybe the press actually takes Joe Klein's good advice, holds her feet to the fire, demand some real interviews, and she fares not so good to poorly and then goes down in flames. But I'd bet on the above scenario first.

"How long has Biden been the VP selection and only NOW does he have his first appearance."
How long has Joe Biden been fluctuating from a national to semi-national figure? Over twenty years. How long has Sarah Palin been on the national stage? Six days. To suggest that Biden's been hiding because he hasn't appeared on a Sunday show in the two or three weeks since he's been picked is absurd and also beside the point. We know a lot about him. We know almost nothing about Sarah Palin, and what we do know, to say the least, isn't encouraging to anyone outside the far right.
"Obama is going to appear on Fox for the first time since he started the longest run for president ever."
Fox is a special case. The network hasn't exactly been professional in their coverage of him.

She will not meet the press before the election. This is part of the point of demonizing the press, since it gives them an excuse. But excuse or not, it'll never happen.
Posted by: matt on September 4, 2008 at 4:24 PM | PERMALINK
It won't be hard. They managed to keep Bush's unscripted talking to a bare minimum through two election cycles, so it should be no problem to keep Palin scripted for two months.

But they're going to need new excuses to keep Palin hidden from questions. It's not a sustainable approach.
This is clearly sexist.
Also, you should know that she is too busy with her responsibilities as Commander-in-Chief of the Alaska National Guard as as monitor against Russia.
Posted by: Duncan Kinder on September 4, 2008 at 4:30 PM | PERMALINK
When is Palin's turn?
Stop the incessant sexist attacks on Palin.
You can only ask her the following questions, which are fair but tough:
+ How does she feel to be a mother of 5 children?
+ Could she please repeat the key points from her RNC speech?
+ Is it true she has more executive experience than Obama or Biden?

Look for the McCain camp to make Palin available to local news outlets and friendly cable hacks like Larry Kudlow. I wouldn't anticipate any Sunday exposure for her.

What about those town hall meetings that JM thinks so highly of. Don't we get to at least see her in one of those?
If you like Dick Cheney you'll LOVE Sarah Palin.
Isnt this ticket even worse than Bush/Cheney, just in reverse? The warmonger is at the top now and the religious opportunist at the bottom. JM is even more undisciplined and stubborn than W. Further, we may think Dick Cheney is evil, but I'm willing to bet we'd find actual horns in Palin's bun.

In her first interview, she needs to be asked what parts of the Alaska Independence Party platform she disagrees with (since she supported it, as did her hubby, AND she gave a speech at one of their meetings). The AIP is tightly associated with the Constitution Party, which has as part of its tenets that the US should be run according to "biblical law". Which part of that platform does she support?
She needs to be asked if abstinence only education works, and if so, what's up with her daughter?
She needs to be asked how old the earth is.
She needs to be asked if she enjoys shooting wolves and bears from helicoptors and where the sport is in that.
She needs to be asked if workers should have an easier time forming unions.

As I recall candidate Bush never went on any shows and only participated in tightly controlled rallies and townhall meetings. More of the same with Palin.
I'm interested in how Obama frames her narrative. If it were me, Palin would be another Bush flunky hired for her loyalty to the party on conservative xtain values, not because of competence, experience, or intelligence.
IOWs, she's another Gonzo, she's another Brown(ie).
About that speech, Heckuva job, Palin. About that debate, heckuva job Palin.

All the Palin scandals have been allowed to accumulate unaddressed so the press has plenty of time to prepare their questions and because there is so much there there, McCain campaign is avoiding contact with the press for as long as possible and will only allow local media events concerning Palin because National press is a bit harder to intimidate. Watch the caution surrounding just who is allowed to ask Palin questions. Controlling the message will be of prime importance regarding Palin. Like McCain she will be well versed in avoidance and changing the topic as well as acting outraged by back up questions that implicate anything discrediting. She will avoid the details of issues like the plague and turn any criticism of her or McCain into an attack on Obama starting off with “yeah, but Obama …“ rather than answer the criticism. And she will do it by being flirtatious. What does it say about a person who wants to be a beauty queen now having a national stage? Hmm
Posted by: bjobotts on September 4, 2008 at 5:33 PM | PERMALINK
That is the point they are trying to conceal about Palin. THAT PALIN IS THE MOST FAR RIGHT THEOCRAT EVER TO APPEAR ON THE NATIONAL STAGE. Even more so than Pat Robertson. Abortion not allowed under any circumstances...incest, rape, mother's health...nothing. Palin is a strict Dominionist, set to help bring about Armageddon and the homosexual death penalty as well as for Adultery (According to her belief system McCain should have been stoned to death years ago). She may try to backpedal in order to gain power but her belief system also says she is not bound by man's law, only God's law. This is why she feels free to lie at will as she did in her acceptance speech, over and over again. This is the fanatical hypocrite McCain thinks would be able to take over as president of the US. I want someone who believes in and supports the constitution as law of the land not one who has never even read the constitution and wants to substitute their version of the bible as the law of the land. This is what must be exposed about Palin.
The press has the responsibility to expose her lies as well as her lying about those lies. "Jesus Christ" is not a password to power and she would belittle his works while professing to believe in him. War and "Jesus" do not go together, McCain/Palin makes a mockery of American democracy. They are an insult to what America stands for. They are a continuation of what is destroying America.
