CNN'S LOSS IS CNN'S GAIN.... Trust me, CNN, Fox News has done you an enormous favor.
The Fox News Channel brought in a big name from a rival Thursday when it announced that it had signed Glenn Beck, the host of a widely viewed talk show on Headline News, a sister network of CNN.
Mr. Beck, who has frequently raised hackles in liberal circles with his acerbic conservative commentary, will host a new talk hour on Fox News from 5 to 6 p.m. weeknights. The show will not start until the spring, and a CNN press officer would not say when Mr. Beck would conclude his shows there. His contract ends in February. [...]
Roger Ailes, the chairman of Fox News, said in a statement, "Glenn's thought-provoking commentary will complement an already stellar lineup of stars at Fox News."
Yes, "thought-provoking," such as, "I think CNN is humiliating itself by paying this nut."
Media Matters and ThinkProgress have some of Beck's "greatest hits," but some of my personal favorites include the time Beck called Hillary Clinton and John Edwards "communists," the time he explained why he agrees with the John Birch Society, the time he said he agreed with al Qaeda about the moral degradation of America, and of course the time he confronted Rep. Keith Ellison (D-Minn.), the first Muslim to serve in Congress, asking, "Sir, prove to me that you are not working with our enemies."
That CNN actually put this man on the air was an embarrassment to the network. He'll fit in nicely at Fox News.

There's also the matter of him being "widely watched." His ratings, in fact, have been insignificant, something like 0.05% of the potential market. That's terrible, even by modern cable standards.
The amazing thing is that he stayed on the air as long as he did.

As they say, it will raise the level of both networks.

Any chance Fox will take Lou Dobbs too?

My personal favourite was when he offered to take nude photographs of some American Idol contestant.
*shudder*

Good. Corral the wingers in the same pen where they can all grunt and bellow and regurgitate each other's vomit as much as it makes their primitive brains happy to do so.

I can only hope Fox rounds up all the rightwing nuts in one place, so there's only one channel I have to automatically skip over.
Please, take the whole Lou Dobbs Xenofest too.

Hey, they still got Ollie "They let me off on a technicality, those pinko barstids" North over at Fox?

Glenn Beck will fit right in with Fox's race hate baiting and religious bigots. Glenn beck is not a conservative, neither are the rest of the fox crew. They would fit very nicely in the 1940's Third Reich.

If there is ever a time for this: Praise the Lord!
Now, what about Lou?

like others, I think this is a great development, for CNN. Now they can get rid of Lou Dobbs and be rid of all the one-trick ponies.

Given time, CNN will find another propaganda minister to replace Beck. There's no shortage of Goebbels disciples out there.

Thanks Fox, now I no longer have to watch this gasbag on air again. (thankfully we don't get Fox up north) He'll be a fine addition to the clown car that is Fox Comedy Channel.

Yeah, the Keith Ellison question was my all time favorite. Should've got him fired.

Glenn moving for fix news is good, now I can watch CNN when I choose, without getting a wingnuts perspective.

Wow, the average IQ of the announcers on both networks just went up!

This is good news for Glenn, as whatever timeslot he gets slotted into his ratings are sure to go up since he now gets to tap into what should be his core audience - people who refuse to watch news on any channel other than Fox News.
This is good news for CNN, as they have a chance to put someone not as stupid as Glenn into that empty slot and hope their ratings go up a bit. I suggest a houseplant - it's smarter than Glenn and far less likely to say something embarrassingly stupid.
This is good news for me, because I no longer have to try to remember when Beck's show is on so that I can avoid it when checking the news channels. Since I don't watch Fox, I may never have to see his face again.
In fact, the only loser I see in this outcome is Fox - who might just lose some viewers because while Beck may be a wingnut's wingnut, he's also a terrible TV personality. Just awful - the man can't run an entertaining show to save his life. Even BillO has a sense of showmanship - Beck just has a sense of dumb.
So thanks Fox!

Once upon a time CNN was my primary source for news. Of late, the acronym seems to stand for "Contains No News". Why they ever hired Beck in the first place is beyond me.

MediaMatters, for some reason, never includes the item I contributed in the list of Glenn Beck's more infamous moments— when he came out as an enthusiastic admirer of a purported torturer and war criminal. Maybe that's because it happened on his syndicated radio program, not on his CNN Headline News television program.

Meh, the rot at CNN clearly goes deeper than Glenn Beck these days, unfortunately...

This is an opportunity for CNN to re-examine its mission and decide whether it wants to go back to being a real news organization or whether it wants to serve as the training ground for future Fox News personalities.

Widely viewed show?
Really?
Doesn't he have fewer viewers than old Full House re-runs?

Late to the party here - but isn't this a sign of Fox building up it's hate machine in advance of a possible Obama Presidency?
