Question
There are only ten days left until the election. How long before the McCain campaign and/or the Republican Party compares Barack Obama to Pol Pot? Or Charlie Manson?
I mean, we've already had Hitler and Soviet Russia. Why stop there?

I wish Barack Obama had said something like this to John McCain (check the "bet" at the end) or that someone from his campaign would pick this up from a recent letter to the editor and put it in an ad:
Dear Editor:
The recent brouhaha over allegations of voter fraud by the Association of Community Organizations for Reform Now (ACORN) has given me an idea on how to cash in on right wing fairy tales. During a Presidential debate John McCain said ACORN “is now on the verge of maybe perpetrating one of the greatest frauds in voter history ... maybe destroying the fabric of democracy." Rush Limbaugh accused ACORN of vote fraud, calling them " filthy and [Obama's] corrupt ... bunch of leftist radicals" on his October 9th radio show.
Unfortunately, a portion of the American public- those who think Fox news tells it like it is- has swallowed this rotten fish whole. In fact ACORN was the victim- not the perpetrator- of fraud by persons ACORN hired to register new voters but who decided to include fictitious names to pad their lists submitted to registrars . But unless Mickey Mouse or the Dallas Cowboys actually show up to vote at precincts in Nevada (where the lists were submitted), not a single instance of vote fraud will occur. There were over 120 million votes cast in the 2004 Presidential election, and the closest States were still decided by far more than 1,000 votes, so without thousands of fake voters showing up at the polls on November 4th, the fabric of democracy is safe.
Here's my proposal to Senator McCain and Mr. Limbaugh: I'll pay you both $1,000 for every ACORN registered fake voter who shows up at the polls on November 4th if you will each pay me $1,000 per ACORN registered fake voter who doesn't show up to vote. And if the total number of ACORN registered fake voters who show up is under 10 for the whole United States, you pay me $1,000,000 for the difference between 10 and the number who show up. In this economy, I can really use the $20 million I'll make if McCain and Limbaugh put their money where their mouths have been.

I doubt they go with pol pot. He is just not a big enough name. My prediction is that we hear him compared to sddam and ho chi minh with some castro references too.

Pol Pot? I think not.
As long as we're looking for ridiculous, last-ditch right-wing comparisons, I'd offer the late Jomo Kenyatta, the longtime ruler of Barack Obama, Sr.'s homeland of Kenya.
But on second thought, such a smear would only work if American voters know who Jomo Kenyatta was. And seriously, what are the odds of that?

I think I've actually seen them compare Obama to Manson already. You know, the "it's like a cult" nonsense. Or maybe it was those PUMA nuts who said that. Hard to remember. Then again, what's the difference?

What can you even say?

There was a picture recently of Todd Palin at a rally holding a sign that said "Charles Manson was a community organizer". Perhaps Pol Pot is the only one left.

Chairman Mao! (Haven't they already used him, or was that some other random wingnut I read a few days ago?)

Too late.
And Protein Wisdom approvingly quotes a screed that includes a Pol Pot comparison.
They are all parodists now.

I bet they compare him with TwoFace from the Batman movie. And they'll say he can give people herpes through the TV.

Much too late. I mean, Karl Marx?
The right have really come unhinged. If they hadn't mucked up our country so bad over the last eight years, I'd be inclined to feel pity. As it is, I'm finding it difficult to keep the schadenfreude at bay.

Pol Pot? Well, John McCain has approved techniques that are equivalent to those used at Tuol Sleng. And some extra techniques, just as gravy. The difference is in the numbers. Pol Pot tortured more people than we have tortured so far. But maybe we could stop it before we reach that record.

As a matter of fact, I think there HAS been a Charles Manson reference. With all the other slime that's been flung around, I can't remember who said it or in what context, though.

There's a comparison worse than Pol Pot -- in a last desperate move of their woebegotten campaign Republicans are going to pull out all the stops and start calling Obama, "Frenchie."
All this name calling makes the GOP look like children. They try to think of the worst thing they can call Senator Obama and then call him that, regardless of whether characterizing him him as a communist-nazi-Muslim terrorist sympathizing-arugula eating elitist-socialist-anti American celebrity makes any damn sense.
How sad (and a bit frightening) it was watching that stupid right-wing reporter Barbara West from Florida's WFTV-Channel 9 quoting from Das Kapital and then asking Joe Biden about how Obama's middle class tax cut proposal differs from Karl Marx. Amazing.
The GOP leadership appears to be becoming emotionally and intellectually unhinged -- fundamentally out of touch about the economy, foreign affairs, civil rights, voters. As they become increasingly obstructionist they are defining a brand of politics that is both vapid and vulgar.

During the Democratic National Convention, David Brooks said that the delegates look like a "North Korean pep rally".

The far right is waiting until after the election to compare him to their current version of History's Greatest Monster: John McCain, the man who lead their party to its destruction.

I think I have it all figured out. Obama is a socialist/communist who will also allow the rise of fascism as practiced in Nazi Germany.
They must think he is Stalin, between the years 1939-1941, when he approved the Molotov-Ribbentrop Pact.

Has Vegas created a betting line, yet?
What's the over/under on Obama: pop. vote, percenntage of pop. vote, electoral vote, states won?
What's the line on: first network to declare Obama winner, time, first network to
call "landslide", over/under on when Fox finally declares Obama victory?
Anybody care to bet on whether Walnuts has a meltdown instead of a concession speech?

The GOP is in a fight for its soul. The battle lines are between the Fiscally Conservative Reagan Republicans and the Socially Conservative Fundamentalist Republicans .
The Fundamentalist Republican's agenda is not about freedom but repression, taking away your right to live life as you see it.
The only way to purge this cancer is for the party to suffer an across the board route on election day, causing Reagan Republicans to come to the realization that they must remove the Fundamentalists from the party.
To save the GOP, we must lose this election.

Out & About in The Castro, you offered the perfect name for the Republicans to use, but you forgot to attach the right frame. If you state definitively, "Jomo Kenyatta, leader of the Mau Mau Rebellion, in Kenya," then you'd get all the bells ringing and the whistles blowing. Everybody knows the Mau Mau Rebellion (or at least they think they do). Bad things happened. Nuff said.

I heard some very disturbing comments yesterday from a loud stupid and bigoted neighbor outside on his cell phone speaking with someone who was apparently equally bigoted and stupid.
He insisted to whom-ever he was speaking with Obama wasn't an American citizen, and therefore not really eligible for the presidency. Seriously. Folks still believe this.
But it didn't stop there. I heard then say rather crudely and carelessly:
"Yeah, someone's gonna prolly pop him off."
Just like that. Like he was saying he was going to have Pot Roast for dinner.
Then I heard a gleeful sort of query: Hey,ya think there'll be a national riot on election day?"
+++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++
I have had thoughts about Obama's safety and national riots as well, but they are profound concerns that keep me up at night.
This guy said it all with almost hopeful and voyeristic anticipation, like he was betting on the next football game-- so thoughtlessly unaware and insensitive to the gravity of his words, and clearly not giving a damn.

I'm really amazed we haven't seen TV commercials showing montages of Obama's face mixed with images of Marxist African dictators (Idi Amin, Robert Mugabe, etc). Maybe this week?

Pol Pot? I almost wish they would raise that name. Then the media would have to spend time explaining Cambodia's Khmer Rouge history (and the US secret bombings in Cambodia during the Vietnam War) because the name Pol Pot in and of itself has absolutely no significance to the average person in this country. Of course, that probably includes the MSM. (Katie Couric internal dialogue: "Pol Pot. I've heard that name before. I don't think it's a type of marijuana. Or an ethnic dish that was prepared on air during my Today stint. Hmm...Must be a person. Oh, I'll get an intern to look it up, and then I'll just read off the teleprompter tonight."
