DICK CHENEY WEIGHS IN.... George W. Bush has been in hiding lately, but Dick Cheney has been secluded in his undisclosed location even more than usual this campaign season.

It was a pleasant surprise, then, to see the vice president pop up today to announce his support for John McCain. "I believe the right leader for this moment in history is Senator John McCain," Cheney said, adding, "I'm delighted to support John McCain and I'm pleased that he's chosen a running mate with executive talent, toughness and common sense, our next vice president in Sarah Palin."

And given Cheney's track record, he couldn't possibly be wrong, right?

Of course, Cheney hasn't exactly been a fixture on the campaign trail lately. Where, pray tell, did he offer this public endorsement of the Republican ticket? That would be a Republican event in Laramie, Wyoming, one of the few states where McCain is expected to cruise to an easy, double-digit victory.

The crowd seemed impressed with Cheney's support. Maybe the McCain campaign would consider a few more public events where Cheney can tout how much he and McCain are on the same page and share a common worldview? Maybe in states like Ohio and Florida?

Maybe in states like Ohio and Florida?

Yes, please.

Who do we have to talk to about this?

What, people were holding their breath waiting to see who he would choose? This is the best news for McCain since the al-Quaida "endorsement".

Posted by: mark on November 1, 2008 at 2:31 PM | PERMALINK

What amazing ambition Cheney must have had: to be the biggest horse's ass to ever hold the office of VP. Even Aaron Burr had some positive qualities.

As a Wyoming native, I apologize profusely for the sewage that is Dick Cheney.

Posted by: Jim on November 1, 2008 at 2:36 PM | PERMALINK

Does an endorsement from Cheney help? Bush is popular compared to him.

Were I in the audience, or any seemingly thinking person--other than the obedient, robotic, irrational ideologues present--and hearing Cheney, I would have immediately been reminded
of the book "The Bush Tragedy" by Jacob Weisberg... Cheney like some substitute father, since Bush rejected his own father in a Shakespearean family drama way....the failed preseidency, the Oedipal parallels...the sheer catastrophe of Bush Junior and his hero Dick Cheney.
And of course, McCain = Bush = Cheney

Now, now. At least Cheney rallies don't have that Klan feel, like Palin's. Or that third grade feel like Bush's. Cheney's audience just hopes no one yells "release!"

Did anyone catch Arnold Scharzenegger's low-brow macho comment about Obama?

"He has skinny legs and scrawny arms".

How pathetic is that? During such a trying time in our country, he actually still thinks this adolescent bully pot-shot crap works?

Is that funny, Arnold? Is that your best argument?!

Talk about insulting and dumbing down. But then again that's the McCain campaign for ya--all the way to the end.

Posted by: Arnoldsezhe'sagirlieman on November 1, 2008 at 3:24 PM | PERMALINK

Arnold still thinks it all boils down to dick size.

Posted by: coldhotel on November 1, 2008 at 3:34 PM | PERMALINK

Surely you Onion?

Arnold: "He has skinny legs and scrawny arms".

Surely you jest?
I mean really...
That's akin to a Benen's post yesterday--
Claiming, among other things: A 72-year candidate for President actually insisted that a chimera thirty years his junior, and falsely named "Joe the Plumber," was his role model.

[Insert Hee-haws here...]

Now that...
Was obviously a skunk egg.
Pure Onion...
This Arnold quote must be one too.

Posted by: [koreyel the onion mongerer] on November 1, 2008 at 3:56 PM | PERMALINK

Yeah, I think the whole McCain campaign is about pretending to measure tools rather than knowing how to actually use them in a way that works.

Posted by: on November 1, 2008 at 3:56 PM | PERMALINK

coldhotel, if ah-nold did as many steroids as i think he did, dick size is probably not something he'd want to bring up (if, of course, it still goes up!).

Posted by: mellowjohn on November 1, 2008 at 4:26 PM | PERMALINK

It would be interesting to ask Arnold's wife what she thinks of his (Arnold's) "dimensions". IIRC, she's endorsing Obama, scrawny arms an'all.

The funniest thing about that clip is Cheney's cough right after he says McCain's name, "...and that man is John McCain ,hack>"

I literally howled when I saw it the first time.

Posted by: Redwood on November 1, 2008 at 6:42 PM | PERMALINK

This just seems like literal sabotage on Cheney's part. Very strange and evil.

Posted by: Mad As Hell on November 1, 2008 at 6:49 PM | PERMALINK

Final ad of Obama's campaign could be put together in an hour--

- clip of Bush happily endorsing McCain and McCain proclaiming his support of Bush and that he hopes that he'll campaign for/with him. (from last April after McCain got the nomination)

- clip of Cheney endorsing McCain and Palin today.

Then the words:

Don't let their dreams come true when they've turned our economy into a nightmare.

Posted by: zoe kentucky from pittsburgh on November 1, 2008 at 7:12 PM | PERMALINK

You know, I've been volunteering for Obama for months, but the Cheney endorsement has completely changed my mind. If Dick Cheney thinks I should vote for McCain, then, darnit, he's got my vote too.

A Modest Proposal, anybody?

Posted by: Zorro on November 1, 2008 at 8:27 PM | PERMALINK

This is strange but earlier today I was wondering where ol' Dick had gotten to.

Now I'm glad to see the old slime ball.

Posted by: tAwO 4 That 1 on November 1, 2008 at 9:27 PM | PERMALINK

Maybe in states like Ohio and Florida?

Yes, please. I'll help with the plane fare. It's a long slither from his undisclosed rock to Ohio and Florida.

Posted by: azportsider on November 1, 2008 at 10:20 PM | PERMALINK

Even Aaron Burr had some positive qualities.

Yeah, like at least Burr could shoot straight. Alexander Hamilton could testify to that - or not really, I guess.

Hon. James David Manning, PhD.

Biggest gamble putting the fate of a nation in the hands of a man whose only qualifications are ego and mouth? Obamas cocksure confidence that can only be achieved by not achieving anything else. "This is our time!" he proclaimed. And "I will change the world." But ultimately this election is not about him, but about the fate of this nation, with only 145 days on the job before running for President. He literally no experience. (Not figuratively, literally!) He's not qualified to run a Dairy Queen

Obama has the most liberal voting record in his 145 days as U.S. Senator. Obama is textbook big-government, tax-and-spend liberal, will raise income tax rates; capital gains tax rates, Social Security taxes and TAXING YOUR 401K, dividend taxes, inheritance taxes, and introduce a slew of new taxes. Will quad triple Welfare program, giving those who NEVER pay into income tax will receive a tax rebate check every year by raising taxes on those who make are paying taxes! His plan will destroy this country.

Obama camp Donation corruption being investigated by FBI & FEC analyst says that Obama's filings indicate he has received large, bundled sums of donations from overseas, sometimes exceeding millions dollars. "It's suspicious, Washington Post shows Obama illegal Aunt donated t camp which is Illegal! Obama camp allowed a contributor to select the country where he resided from the entire membership of the United Nations, including North Korea and the Islamic Republic of Iran. Unlike McCain's or Sen. Hillary Clinton's online donation pages, Obama camp DOES NOT ask for PROOF of CITIZENSHIP! Like Senator Clinton's and Senator McCains presidential camps required U.S. citizens living abroad to actually fax a copy of their passport before a donation would be accepted.

What has the Middle East, Islamic non-U.S. Citizens buying from Obama once hes elected?

Obama keeps reaching back to Chicago political past for policy advisers, and pulling one despicable, vile, and even evil rabbit after another out of his hat.
The list of Barack Obamas radical associations is long and it keeps getting longer.

(Bloomberg) -- Nigerian Stock Exchange Chief Executive Officer Ndi Okereke-Onyiuke is being investigated after holding a fund-raising event linked to U.S. presidential candidate Barack Obama, Agence France-Presse reported. U.S. electoral laws forbid donations from foreigners to electoral campaigns.

23 years at TUCC with Jeremiah Wright and James Meeks. racist sermons on Youtube.
He chose the most radical church in the country; chose to immerse himself in hard-core ideological radicalism. Never before has this country considered such a radical leftist for its chief executive.

Michael Pfleger and his hateful and race-hating ramblings, Obama met while carrying out his own radical social activism as community organizer at ACORN, (radical organization)

Penny Pritzker, heads Obama camp National Finance Committee was president of Superior Bank - massively failed and she literally bought her way out of jail paying $460 MILLION fine; was the very epicenter of subprime loan scandal that would come to eat this nations financial system alive.

Fannie Mae CEO Jim Johnson, former head of Obamas vice presidential selection committee, discovered he benefited from sweetheart loans from subprime king Countrywide.

Tony Rezko certainly and his federal indictments and financial dealing with Obamas of course and William Ayers, US terrorist bomber, Obama-co-lecturer, fellow board member, neighbor, and friend.

Communist Frank Marshall Davis, obama mentor; Saul Alinsky and Gerald Kellman (Kellmans Woods Fund is how Obama hooked up with terrorist William Ayers)

Chicago lawyer Mazen Asbahi, appointed as Obama camp national coord for Muslim n affairs also stepped down after news about his stint on the funds board - which includes fundamentalist imam - prompting The Wall Street Journal inquiries about relationship with the Muslim Brotherhood and his long personal relationship with Hamas Jamal Said.

Obama desperately needs voters to forget hes the son of a Muslim father who served an incredibly brutal and corrupt Kenyan government; to forget he attended a madrassa in Indonesia and practiced Islam; forget that he campaigned in Kenya on behalf of Raila Odinga, who relied upon chaos, corruption, and violence in his campaign; numerous associations with radical Muslims; forget the photographs of Obama in traditional Muslim clothes, hanging with Muslim radicals such as Mazen Asbahi and anti-Semite Rashid Khalidi.

"I think he can be ready, but right now I don't believe he is," Biden said in 2007. "The presidency is not something that lends itself to on-the-job training." In debate among Democratic hopefuls, moderator George Stephanopoulos pressed Biden whether he stood by a recent quote. Biden said, "I stand by that statement."

Hey Nobama,

You are a redneck that should be investigated
for possibly plotting an assasination of Obama.
I do see your anger as suspect.

Posted by: pissed off on November 3, 2008 at 5:00 PM | PERMALINK

Mr Nobama - I see your "over the top" emotional anger as being a strong reason to vote for NO DRAMA OBAMA. The uneducated, insane, and Fox News stirred anger has done more to drive voters to the Democratic Party than any of the best Democratic political ads.

People are sick of the strident, ugly, and unsubstantiated blather that has been coming out of the GOP.

Keep it up. The more you rave..the less the Obama campaign has to work
