McCain Concedes
John McCain just gave a truly gracious concession speech. I particularly liked the way he seemed to be urging his supporters to give Obama their complete support, not to forget that Obama will, in fact, be their President. It would have been an easy thing to somehow forget to say. It was an honorable speech, and I salute him for it.

If McCain had run his campaign the way he did his concession speech he probably would have done better. As it is, a moment of apparent grace cannot reduce or mitigate the stain he has placed on his name and memory.

He was classy as hell. Would've been nice if the crowd had taken their cue from him, but to be honest, I'm sort of glad they embraced their inner lowlife so eagerly. As important as it is that Obama won, it's equally gratifying to me that people like that lose.
From the start of this campaign, I've noticed that McCain doesn't feed on negativity the way a Republican really needs to. Palin's really in her element when people are booing her opponents, but that stuff really takes the light out of McCain's eyes.
Here's hoping the Republican party rebuilds itself into something worth pandering to. Or they could just turn all the way into the Christian Nationalist party and set up shop in the dustbin of history; that'd work too.

Classy, but he's going to have to work harder to convince his wingnut army that he was completely kidding about Obama being a Marxist who pals around with Terr'ists.

McCain is an opportunist first and foremost. When he lost in 2000 he immediately ingratiated himself with Bush. Now he is doing the same - trying to minimize the damage and hold on to any influence he can. The man has no life outside the Senate.
