TECHNOLOGY WAS NEVER THEIR STRONG POINT.... On Wednesday, the Washington Post noted that the McCain campaign's Arlington headquarters was about to host a "blowout sale," getting rid of some leftover equipment -- including laptops and blackberries -- at a fairly deep discount. Everything, as the saying goes, must go.

Reading the piece, a little voice in the back of my head said, "These guys do know to clean up the equipment and delete campaign-related information, right?" I assumed the staffers knew what they were doing.

I assumed wrong. Some folks from the Fox affiliate in D.C. bought some Blackberry phones at $20 apiece, and "ended up with a lot more than we bargained for."

When we charged them up in the newsroom, we found one of the $20 Blackberry phones contained more than 50 phone numbers for people connected with the McCain-Palin campaign, as well as hundreds of emails from early September until a few days after election night.

We traced the Blackberry back to a staffer who worked for "Citizens for McCain," a group of Democrats who threw their support behind the Republican nominee. The emails contain an insider's look at how grassroots operations work, full of scheduling questions and rallying cries for support.

But most of the numbers were private cell phones for campaign leaders, politicians, lobbyists and journalists.

When the reporters called some of the numbers, one of the Republicans said, "They should have wiped that stuff out.... Given the way the campaign was run, this is not a surprise."

Jason Linkins concluded, "You would think the McCain campaign would have known better, seeing how McCain invented the Blackberry in the first place."

The intertubes are hard!! I'm sure the campaign got on the telegraph to find out how to wipe their gear.

Citizens for McCain," a group of Democrats who threw their support behind the Republican nominee

A group spearheaded by Joe Lieberman, you know the guy in charge of the Homeland Security committee. The guy who said Obama wouldn't keep up safe? The one who kicked off Citizens for McCain with this little gem: The phones at the campaign headquarters have been ringing with disaffected Democrats calling to say they believe Sen. McCain has the experience, judgment and bipartisanship necessary to lead our country in these difficult times. At least McCain has a future career in comedy.

A group spearheaded by Joe Lieberman,

I'm sure he'll pay a price for his treason, once Obama and the rest of the Democrats are in power.

The McCain Campaign is no more, therefore it's somebody else's problem; Classic modern Republicanism-- No sense of responsibility or accountability. Happily these days Republicans are only shooting themselves with their laziness (presuming Treasury does what Senate Republicans wouldn't w/ re to the auto industry.)

There was no need to wipe this information off the Blackberries. Everybody knows those things don't operate without the hand crank -- and they DIDN'T INCLUDE those in the sale.

Once again the McCain campaign fools the "tech-savvy". And you guys fall for it every time.

One wonders what sort of info was left to languish on their *laptops*... Also... Y'all figure that the Bush/Cheney maladmin will have an equally inept fire sale on Jan 20? The timing would be just to mess with Obama's inauguration -- you'd have to decide whether to attend one (in hopes of a spiritual uplift) or the other (in hopes of getting a journalistic scoop of the century).

Oh, but no matter, because good ol innocent "MAC IS BACK" according to Mathews and other pundits. They think he is just adorable now as they watched him pall around with Letterman Thursday eve., as he mocked Blogo's bleeps with great zealousness-as though he himself never has gotten that angry or vindictive, as though he himself is just clean as a whistle.

I was sorry Letterman had him on again so soon and was so ready to schmooze and elevate McCain--guess it's all about ratings after all. Makes me feel very cynical.
But I'm too idealistic to begin with. As if these guys really care....

Never mind he ran the most degrading campaign to witness heretofore and picked a veep who could have easily taken into us into the dark ages (actually, he could too, with his utter willingness to bomb without hesitation, with his sort of rebel without a cause stance, with his belief (M.O.) that says: "I'm a P.O.W. who sacrificed a lot, so back off, you mother fu**er).

Michelle Bernard argued Friday that McCain ran a very honorable campaign even, listing his refusal to run the Ayers ad as proof positive. Although David Corn of Mother Jones gave her a fairly good rebuttal. Still, Mathews stayed way out of it and seemed to side with Bernard.

I don't believe for one moment the problem was he was simply 'over-handled'. The problem is he ALLOWED himself to be over-handled because at his core, he is tormented and confused and a lost soul with no clear vision except to bomb the hell out of anyone and everyone. Obama on the other hand remained solid and consistently who he is throughout the campaign.
