WEDNESDAY'S CAMPAIGN ROUND-UP....Today's installment of campaign-related news items that wouldn't generate a post of their own, but may be of interest to political observers.
* Rep. Ray LaHood (R-Ill.) for Secretary of Transportation?
* ABC News reports that Rod Blagojevich will "likely hold a press conference toward the end of this week."
* Senate Majority Leader Harry Reid not only likes the idea of Caroline Kennedy joining the Senate, he conceded yesterday that he's lobbied the governor of New York on the issue. As to her background, Reid said Kennedy has "lived in government and politics her whole life."
* On a related note, Kennedy will reportedly head upstate today, visiting Buffalo, Rochester, Tonawanda, and North Tonawanda, and participating in a series of private meetings with local officials.
* The mess in Minnesota: "The Coleman campaign suddenly indicated that it wants to bring back some of their challenges that they'd previously withdrawn -- a development that will probably drag out this process well past the board's original goal of finishing by Friday."
* Sarah Palin's Wasilla Bible Church really does take a radically right-wing view when it comes to homosexuality.

If Blagojevich plans to stay in office, then he should delegate the selection of the person to be appointed to the IL senate seat to the Lt. Governor. Of course, Blagojevich would still have to make the appointment, but such a move would remove the taint and, possibly, reduce the urgency for impeachment.

I can see the 2016 ticket now: Jeb Bush and Sarah Palin.
How's that for a living nightmare?

Isn't Caroline Kennedy an attorney? And didn't she write several books on Constitutional Law?
Why is no-one mentioning this and only focusing on her name as sole reason (pedigree, royalty) for choosing her--and thereby discount her and deem her unqualified?
================================================
I think they even quoted Joy Behar (from "The View) on MSNBC (Chris Mathews or someone yesterday) as a credible source who apparently confirms Kennedy's lack of qualifications...which in itself was outrageous--since those View folks don't really understand or read the news in any substantive way.

Responding to Jane's comment Caroline Kennedy is qualified to be a U.S. Senator. However, she's not as qualified as several lesser known persons who are also more deserving because they've put themselves and their views in the political arena, fought for progressive views, and taken punches in the process.
The problem, as I see it, isn't that Caroline isn't qualified. The problem is that she's being given an unfair advantage over other qualified candidates in the media and elsewhere because of her family connections.

God forbid that Caroline run for elective office...such is her entitlement to be appointed.

ARGH. If Kennedy wants to be a senator so very, very badly, why not start a campaign for 2010? I'm sure she's a lovely and intelligent and qualified person. Maybe even lovely and intelligent and qualified enough to run a campaign and win an election! So make her.

North Tonawanda? Brace yourselves for "Kennedy escapes inferno" headlines. That is the most flammable town in the lower 48.

ABC News reports that Rod Blagojevich will "likely hold a press conference toward the end of this week."
Breaking news was really funny Blagojevich’s lawyer was specifying Illinois state laws pertaining to due process. Then a Representative not sure who she was blurted out this is not a court just a committee.
Any remark like this is not a court missed the point this committee is there for that very purpose to establish due process. This lady just reeks of corruption.
Number one Blagojevich has not been convicted but there is a whole huge long list of victim’s right that is breach by this legislative body.
Please even a committee must and should be required to work with in the due process or they themselves face counter charges that will ultimately wind up in the Illinois or Supreme Court, or Bush’s Supreme Court. Would be interesting don’t you think.
God forgive such a remark, here a lady representative of the people of Illinois in your face ignores due process. It sounds like this lawyer has something and this legislative body is out of sync in the public hearing.
Maybe, maybe it is they these legislative bodies are the ones who don’t work within the law… or for a long time have not been with in the Constitutional Guidelines.
Ryan should know and so should Patrick Fitzgarld one of the reason for me many more political persons should have went to jail along with Ryan.
Perhaps Blagojevich knows with his lawyer that Patrick Fitzgarld finally screwed up along with many in the illinois legistlative body. If Blago is going so are whole lot of other Illinois legistlative representives.
With a remark like that, that this is not a court, maybe true but it is the legistlative body to formulate the basics of law which Illinois must observe. Very confusing for anyone to say.

Re: Obama's possible connections to Blago and his refusal to come clean, MSNBC's Contessa Brewer just informed her viewers that Obama's honeymoon with the press may be over. I'm confused about this. They just got engaged 6 weeks ago and the marriage isn't for another month. How can the honeymoon be over before the marriage even starts? Are we positive our media is mature enough to get married? It sure doesn't seem like it from watching cable news channels.
