MONDAY'S CAMPAIGN ROUND-UP....Today's installment of campaign-related news items that wouldn't generate a post of their own, but may be of interest to political observers.

* In the wake of last week's Minnesota Supreme Court ruling, lawyers for Sen. Norm Coleman's (R-Minn.) campaign are threatening a new lawsuit to prevent the state from certifying election results that would make Al Franken the winner.

* Could Franken be seated before his victory is certified? The state's other senator, Democrat Amy Klobuchar, is working on it.

* While the race for the RNC chairmanship heats up, committee members have called for an unprecedented special meeting, working outside the dictates of the national party's leadership.

* It looks like former Florida Gov. Jeb Bush (R) is moving closer to launching a Senate campaign.

* In what I believe is a reversal, Caroline Kennedy said over the weekend that she will not run for the Senate in 2010 if she's not chosen to fill New York's current vacancy.

* Illinois Lt. Gov. Pat Quinn (D) said yesterday that he believes Gov. Rod Blagojevich (D) can be removed from office in time for Abraham Lincoln's 200th birthday on February 12.

* Terry McAuliffe is moving ahead with his gubernatorial campaign in Virginia, and is planning to raise record amounts of money -- Virginia has "no limits on how much an individual, corporation or union can donate to a candidate running for state office."

Virginia has "no limits on how much an individual, corporation or union can donate to a candidate running for state office.

So the only thing stopping Terry McMcAuliffe from raising "record amounts of money" is, you know, him being Terry McAuliffe. His previous fundraising prowess didn't involve the small problem of him being the candidate.

Bush, Kennedy, a name is all you need to move to the head of the line. Can you even imagine _another_ round of Bush?

I'd be amazed if Jeb Bush didn't run for Pres. in either '12 or '16. '12 might be a bit too close to the GWB disaster, but it's commonly thought that the US political memory goes back ~ 2 years, so '12 may be right for another round of Bush.

And if that doesn't terrify you, you've been asleep for the last 8 years.

When Kennedy said she'd definitely run in 2010, I didn't see anything say that she would necessarily be running for US Senate. Frankly a state Senate spot or even a delegate might demonstrate some humility and appreciation for the role good public service and hard work would play in supplementing her formidable name recognition.

If so, kudos.

In what I believe is a reversal, Caroline Kennedy said over the weekend that she will not run for the Senate in 2010 if she's not chosen to fill New York's current vacancy.

Poor thing.

She's just been shredded to pieces by party infighting. She can't do anything now without the media or some left wing pricks poking her in the face and ass with it...

You got to wonder... if she was a boy-Kennedy instead of a girl-Kennedy... would all this vituperation be vented?

I suspect not.

Unfortunately, I don't have access to the parallel universe next door to prove the point.

Vis Virginia: What shortstop said, @12:09. The South (where I'm at) wants Creigh Deeds, while NoVA wants Jim Moran. But, both sides would be willing to compromise and pull for the other fellow, if he looks like a brighter prospect (which, probably, means Moran, since there are more Dems in NoVA than "down heah"). But nobody -- either from NoVA or "down heah" -- talks about McAuliffe with anything other than revulsion. So I don't know who he thinks will be voting for him, much less contributing to his vast and empty coffers. Especially since both Moran and Deeds have been running (kinda low-grade campaign, but, still) for over a year while McAuliffe hasn't even brought all of his carpet bags to VA.

And Jeb! will probably win quite handily here in the birthplace of fucktardery.

You look at how Chris Cox was asleep at the wheel while Bernie Madoff ripped off his clients for $50 billion (bigger than Enron!), you look how ashamed TVA CEO Tom Kilgore is over the billion-gallon TVA sludge spill in Tennessee, you look at how inadequate to the task HUD Secretary Alphonso Jackson was as the mortgage crisis unfolded, how incompetent FEMA Director Michael Brown was responding to Katrina, the utter failure of Paul Bremer as head of the Coalition Provisional Authority in charge of re-building post-invasion Iraq.

And all these GOP candidates for office defend George Bush's policies and talk about how history will vindicate him. The public needs to challenge the vision of any GOP candidate -- ask them how they would do things differently to prevent the recurrance of the many, many failures of President Bush's policies and appointments.

Our nation literally cannot afford any more administrations like this one.

Lemme get this straight . . . Caroline Kennedy is willing to take the Senate seat if it is given to her, but she isn't interested enough in it to actually, y'know, go out and campaign for it?

There is a reason so many people think the suggestion she should be enthroned smacks of hubris and arrogance.
