IRONY IS DEAD.... Have I mentioned lately how entertaining Karl Rove's Wall Street Journal op-eds are? Take today's, for example.
On the campaign trail, Barack Obama criticized Washington for being "obsessed with the perpetual campaign." As president he is the first occupant of the Oval Office to give his director of political affairs -- who coordinates the president's involvement with his party and other campaign related activities -- an office in the West Wing.
Many Americans may assume that the president's entire staff is in the West Wing. It's not. The West Wing is actually a very small place, so the vast number of people who work "at the White House" actually have offices across the street at the Eisenhower Executive Office Building (EEOB).
Under Mr. Obama, the political director won't be in the EEOB, where other presidents have placed him. He'll occupy a West Wing office usually given to the head of presidential personnel. That's a sign of the importance of politics for Team Obama.
So, to summarize, Karl Rove is accusing someone else of emphasizing politics too much in the White House.
Keep 'em coming, Karl. You're a laugh-riot.

Speaking of Karl...will he be acknowledging the latest subpoena, or blow this one off, too?

Shorter Karl Rove--
waah, waah, my replacement got a "better" office than me

The entire Republican party is irony-deficient. Its not just Karl Rove. We have the Republican leaders taking about "fiscal responsibility". We have Republican congresspeople taking about a need for more infrastructure spending. We have Republicans calling for "bipartisanship" and civility. And we have right-wing commentators calling Obama "racist".
And sadly, no one in the corporate-controlled media calls them on it.

Please note the location of Karl Rove, Bush's political/campaign brain if not his director of political affairs by title, on this West Wing map.

Not so much. This is CLASSIC Karl Rove. Project yourself onto your enemies.
And I'll add that the Repubs are doing an excellent job of politicking on the stimulus bill. CLASSIC GOP. Take things out of context. Lie . Distort. And most importantly, win the news cycle. They're so damn good. e.g. Squawking about condoms and 200 million dollars in a single sound bite. It would take Dems a good paragraph to highlight the cost benefits of family planning and would be much less interesting.
Bravo, republicans. Once again you show how to play politics like a master while governing like a coma patient with head trauma.

Do Republicans suffer from an inability to form long-term memories, or are they all cynical demon-assholes?

That patient is just fine!

A whole lot closer than the head of presidential personnel. In fact, a whole floor closer.

altho it indicts the immaturity of the citizenry of this great country, rove being as sucksessful as he was -- okay, temporarily -- his political philosophy has been 'out there' from the beginning.
rove didnt even need kindergarten, any four year-old knows what karl knows: his one great idea was and is modalities on the form "i know you are, but what am i?"

But also note Karl is listed as Deputy Chief of Staff. Not sure "director of political affairs" is Obama's advisor's title, and if Rove ever had that title.
It's just another case of the Repubs coming up for a catchy title to cover up their mendacity.

This worked so well in the Bush administration. Accuse the other party of something you are already doing and the MSM picks it up and makes the lie become truth.

That is exactly why I said "Bush's political/campaign brain if not his director of political affairs by title." Look, we all know what he did.

This is a lesson learned from the creationists. It's easier to throw out 10 plausible sounding lies in a short time, and almost impossible to show why they are lies in an equivalent time. The only solution is to tackle the opponents on what their actual positions are, but this is made impossible by the current media who would immediately accuse the dems of changing the subject (but not the repubs).
Any any attempt to throw mud back becomes the "he said, she said" that the media and repubs have aimed for - the media get their titilation factor, and the repub get their lies repeated enough become either truth, or to tarnish your view by association.

Kind of step back - Thought Karl was a permanent fixture in The Offal Office.

ditto - palinoscopy. Couldn't have said it better.
I'll add that I don't fault them at all. They do what works, and they can count on the "liberal press" to echo their garbage endlessly.

palinoscophy, they certainly sucked Matthews in on that condom issue. Of course, Tweety continues to fly in front of the right's jet engines.

Wait, where was Karl Rove's office during Bush?
Posted by: Cay on January 29, 2009 at 11:40 AM | PERMALINK
In an odd way, Rove is right. Obama *is* emphasizing politics in his white house *and* engaged in a "perpetual campaign." The distinction is that Obama's goals are precisely the opposite of Bush's.
Bush used policy as a means to wage effective political warfare. And Rove, who had a distinct (if wrong) vision what kinds of "compassionate conservative" policies would lead to a permanent Republican majority, was the architect.
Obama, in contrast, is using politics as the means to pass what he thinks is good policy. The plan to target moderate Republicans in their home districts with ads to bring them onto the stimulus plan is a perfect example.

I'm shocked, shocked to learn KKKarl didn't work from the Oval office.
I don't worry, but it is a curious thing that Obama has put a political person that close. He must be a good adviser on other things as well.
