KISSING THE BOSS' RING.... The irony is, when RNC Chairman Michael Steele described Rush Limbaugh as an "incendiary" and "ugly" entertainer, his intended goal was to prove that the radio host isn't the "de facto leader of the Republican Party."
By the time Steele extended a pathetic apology to Limbaugh late yesterday, the RNC chairman had, of course, proven the opposite point.
Republican National Committee Chairman Michael Steele says he has reached out to Rush Limbaugh to tell him he meant no offense when he referred to the popular conservative radio host as an "entertainer" whose show can be "incendiary."
"My intent was not to go after Rush -- I have enormous respect for Rush Limbaugh," Steele said in a telephone interview. "I was maybe a little bit inarticulate.... There was no attempt on my part to diminish his voice or his leadership."
"I went back at that tape and I realized words that I said weren't what I was thinking," Steele added. How ridiculous was the RNC chairman's groveling? Explaining what he meant when he labeled Limbaugh "incendiary" and "ugly," Steele said, "What I was trying to say was a lot of people ... want to make Rush the scapegoat, the bogeyman, and he's not."
C'mon, Steele. Try to maintain at least some sense of dignity here. As apologies go, this is just humiliating. It doesn't even make any sense.
For those keeping score at home, this is reversal #3 for Republicans who've been recently critical of Limbaugh. Rep. Phil Gingrey (R-Ga.) groveled for Rush's forgiveness in late January, and Gov. Mark Sanford's (R-S.C.) office quickly backpedaled after the governor said, "Anyone who wants [President Obama] to fail is an idiot." Steele took slightly longer to prostrate himself -- he made the comments on Saturday night -- but that's only because the remarks didn't rise to public attention until yesterday.
That Gingrey, Sanford, and Steele were all correct in their assessments is irrelevant. This isn't about accuracy; it's about making sure the right-wing blowhard and his followers are happy.
White House Chief of Staff Rahm Emanuel, hoping to prove who's really calling the shots in the Republican Party, said on Sunday morning, "[W]henever a Republican criticizes him, they have to run back and apologize to him and say they were misunderstood." In this sense, Steele continues to make the Democratic strategy even easier.
Indeed, shortly after Steele's humiliating groveling, DNC Chairman Tim Kaine issued a statement piling on: "I was briefly encouraged by the courageous comments made my counterpart in the Republican Party over the weekend.... However, Chairman Steele's reversal this evening and his apology to Limbaugh proves the unfortunate point that Limbaugh is the leading force behind the Republican Party, its politics and its obstruction of President Obama's agenda in Washington."
Or, as Satyam Khanna put it, "To quote Rush, a lot of Republicans are being told to 'bend over and grab the ankles' for him."

Sanford didn't backpedal quite as badly. He just said he hadn't meant anyone specifically, and didn't change his remarks. Very different from "I didn't mean what I said."

Heh, kissing the boss' "ring" - and that mealy wafflegab from Steele about not really meaning what he said or seemed to say at first, blubber blubber ... Ummm, Rush is now teh pwner of the GOP. Borrowing from other cute renamings of the Republicans, I propose this ultimate and timely handle: The Re-Rush-lickin' Party, because they keep going back (bend) over and over again ...

And they still don't realize that for Limbaugh this is nothing more than a new angle for ratings. This is a no win for the Republican Party. either thay take him on and have him go ballistic on them, or the grovel and have him gloat. It's not in his best interest to smooth this over or put the issue behind. Its exactly what Obama and the Democrats hoped to achieve. This is ratings gold for the fat pig and he'll eat his own if he has to without a second thought.
He's not as smart as he thinks he is because his presentation is horrific. I keep saying it, but with the dire problems facing the country and everyone as individuals the last thing people want is a bloated, sweating, self-promoting con-man hawking catastrophic failure as a way to keep himself in the spotlight. He played right into the President's hand.

How pathetic. How totally and completely humiliating. This is worse than the guy who apologized for getting in the way of Dick Cheney's shotgun blast.
What is it with these, uh, "girly men" Repubs? They cower before a guy who got 5 deferments because he had "other priorities" and a guy who avoided service because he had an ingrown hair on his ass.

The problem for the Republicans is that Rush Limbaugh doesn't really care whether they win elections or not. Rush Limbaugh cares about sitting on his big fat ass, collecting an even bigger and fatter paycheck for reading the corporate-sponsored, scripted hate-speech and lies that are handed to him each day.
He can do that just as easily with Democrats in power. Indeed, he can probably make more money when Democrats are in power, given that the essence of his shtick is preaching to the ditto-heads that they are all the poor, pitiful, oppressed victims of "powerful liberal elites".
I would add that it is particularly disgusting to see Michael Steele kissing Limbaugh's fat ass, given that much of Limbaugh's most offensive and vile "incendiary and ugly" rhetoric has been openly racist hate-speech directed at African-Americans -- including the openly racist comments that brought a quick end to his attempt to enter the "mainstream" media as a sports commentator.

Miss Mudd--
Don't believe everything you read in wiki. Being roughly the same age, ol Rush and i should have fallen into the same year for the draft. I was number 121 and received a 'greetings letter' in June. I joined the Air force and was accepted even though I, like Rush, had both a football knee and a pilonidal cyst. The cyst was a real pain in the ass, but not so much that I wasn't able to log 3,500 hours as a helicopter pilot before having it removed. These cysts are lifetime afflictions which never go away without surgery and they are aggrivated by sitting for long periods, so either Rush had the problem taken care of once his draft deferment was assured or he heroically sits down in front of his mic each day and bloviates his way through the pain.

I still think Obama is brilliant. Only about half of the media get it. First Obama, next Emanuel, now Kaine. The Democrats have defined comedian Rush Limbaugh as the face of the modern Republican party. Elected officials have to kiss his ass and he is loving it. There is no way the Republican party can recover with Limbaugh in charge. The elected Republicans have to neutralize him or face humiliation.
My only concern is that the Democrats not over do it. Let the Republican office holders, and Rush and his dittoheads rip each other to pieces. They will. From this point forward they have no choice.

What world are these people (GOP & its supporters)living in? Is GOP-sponsored propaganda that powerful? So powerful that you lose all sense of reality and the ability to maintain rational thought on any politically-related topic?
Most normal (not even progressive) people would be completely embarassed by these people but somehow, people embrace it and act as if WE are the crazy people. What the fuck is going on with these people? It's absolutely crazy.
I know people who are buying this BS and act as if they are being 'conservative' or 'patriotic' or whatever. Could such a large group of people be so easily manipulated and weak-minded? How utterly stupid, nonsensical, ignorant, crazy does the GOP have to act before people start to go: "Oh, NOW the GOP has crossed the line. They are making no sense, they are embarassing themselves and anyone who supports them and I won't be a part of that" WHEN??!!
It should have happened months even years ago but they keep piling on the stupidity and large segments of America still buy it. Who are these freaks of nature? And why do they support such a wacky, lying, nonsensical organization?

The mismatch between Rush Limbaugh's ego and his analytical capacity is breathtaking. The man truly must believe that he is the solution for the woes of the Republican party.
Best thing for him is that he can enjoy his throne without having to take any responsibility for anything. And he gets to devour a leading Republican a week. Talk about the beast feasting on its creators.
If the Republicans want to have any chance of a comeback any time in the foreseeable future, they would have to take Rush down, but there is nobody in sight who could slay that dragon. All they can do is stand by and pray that Rush's rage will burn out sooner rather than later.
All the Democrats need to do is to stay out of the way and watch the spectacle.

That's true, but it was calibrated in response to a relatively mild rebuke from Rush who basically said that Sanford as a politician speaks to a different audience, etc.
Rush is still getting the level of apology that he demands.

That may be True
REPUBLICANS ADOPT NEW SLOGAN
Rupert Tisdale, Chief of Slogans for the Republican party announced today the formal adoption of the new rallying cry, "Failure is Our Option". This new banner was inspired by the thoughtful and eloquent statements by the new leader of the party, Rush Limbaugh.
In Mr. Limbaughe's radio performances and speeches he has roused his audiences by repeating that he wants President Obama to fail. This may seem harsh, but not when you consider that, unless Obama fails, the Democratic party will prevail, giving us big government with liberal agendas. True, the country and its economy will also fail, but this is a small price to pay. It is often necessary to tear down the old to build the new, in this case the return to traditional, conservative values.
Now, as soon as RNC chairman Michael Steele acknowledges that Rush Limbaugh is the head of the Republican party, and apologizes to Mr Limbaugh, there will be a nationwide launch and media campaign "Failure is Our Option".

What I said weeks ago when Steele was elevated to RNC chair was that it was the Republicans' purpose to denigrate the person of Steele, the first African-American head of the party, to prove their belief that Blacks are not equal to the rest of them (mostly white males). By Steele's incompetence and groveling to Rush, he has proven their point. That, then, may be projected onto the first African-American President, that as a Black man, he is inherently unqualified to hold that position. So, this was all calculated to make their point. Burris may be another example of this strategy, even though he is a Democrat. Not that there are not plenty of examples of incompetent whites, male and female, holding high office, but there is no attempt to say that their whiteness makes them incompetent. As usual, one can come to any conclusion that supports their belief about a particular class of person: see, this one is a (blank) and they are incompetent, therefore, all (blank) are incompetent by virtue of their (blankness). By that reasoning, Rush is the face of all white males, and anything he says or does is a reflection on all white males.
And so it is,

You know the party is in serious trouble when, just this morning, Pat Buchanan is defending the very public conservative v. GOP infighting as a clear sign that the party is stronger and more united than he believed a month ago. Buchanan then went on to talk about how united the GOP is and that it's the Dems who are truly splintered and divided. He says all this with a straight face.
They seem to think projecting the opposite of reality will continue to work. That requires that no one is paying attention and that the Dems weren't voted into power of all 3 branches last fall. Good luck with that.

I get the feeling Rush Limbaugh is like a big mean bully that all the Republican school kids are genuinely afraid of. For real. It's that pathetic, as these supposed grown-ups scramble to kiss his ass, gloss over and minimize the un-patriotic, incoherent, vile rhetoric that spews from his mouth and brings him millions of dollars. These grown-ups stoop so low that they actually retract any statements that hint at the same, actually apologize for speaking their truth!
And Rush eats it up!
I think back to days of Junior High, when the kids wanted so badly to belong, to not stand out--when they were afraid to have a voice of their own, so instead they'd scramble to be the bully's best fan: They'd offer to hold his heavy books, they'd collude with his mean trickery and mocking others, they'd clap and cheer him on. Others simply cower in the corner back of Rushs' classroom -- silently walk down the Junior High School halls, praying Rush won't see them, won't look them in the eyes and call them out for the traitors and losers they are...
Doesn't anyone else see this?

What is so disappointing is that there is no recognition from even the most "moderate" members of the media that this is the case as Insanity stated: "...Rush Limbaugh is like a big mean bully that all the Republican school kids are genuinely afraid of. Are we here on WM/PA that much more aware of what is taking place right before our eyes than the news editors and reporters who are paid to look into the statements and actions of our government and businesses? I know I say some bizarre things from time to time, here, but that is an attempt to generate some kind of reaction beyond the back and forth chatter of like-minded people that never goes beyond this blog.
I don't have the solution; I am hoping someone here will have the key to unlocking the vault of consumerism as news, and look into the underlying corruption of consciousness that passes as the status quo.

The clearly orchestrated campaign to make Lush Bimbo the face of the GOP is inspired, and I applaud whoever thought it up.
Lush is comfort food to his brainless ditto-heads, who will ultimately want him to run for president. If he does he loses. If he doesn't he loses. I had predicted some time ago that the unspeakably vile Lush would come to a very timely end when his inflated ego exploded. The thought of all that fatty tissue polluting the countryside is repugnant in the extreme, but it would probably feed the wildlife for a whole winter.
His audience is limited, and this inane (but delightful) internecine struggle for the soul of the GOP may (hopefully) result in peeling the far-right Rethuglican base away, in which case there will be two splinter parties: the fascists led by lard ass himself, and the residual Republican moderates led by Huntsman or Sanford. Neither will, in the short term, be able to get a congressional majority elected, let alone a president. The angry racist white male fascists, who have always been with us, will continue their paranoid delusions inflamed and inspired by Lush. They may turn violent.
Equating Steele with Obama just because they are both black is hilarious. Undoubtedly there are those in the Rethuglican country club set who want Steele to fail just to prove that blacks are incompetent, nor worthy of leadership positions in the vaunted GOP. Enter another Bush type corporate stooge stage right to shore up GOP's lily-white image. In any case the wilderness is where they will be for quite a while.
Let's hope this heats up and keeps going.
