FRIDAY'S CAMPAIGN ROUND-UP....Today's installment of campaign-related news items that wouldn't generate a post of their own, but may be of interest to political observers.

* If Arlen Specter votes against EFCA, he'll have a better chance in the Republican primary next year. If Specter votes for EFCA, he'll enjoy the enthusiastic backing of the AFL-CIO, which carries real weight in Pennsylvania.

* Republican Assemblyman Jim Tedisco, clinging to a narrowing lead in the special election in New York's 20th, is apparently feeling nervous about his campaign. Yesterday, Tedisco decided he's "shaking up" his staff and, from now on, will stop airing attack ads against Democrat Scott Murphy. The special election is March 31.

* In a very awkward message to donors, Norm Coleman, after carelessly failing to protect personal information about his supporters, is now urging concerned donors to cancel their credit cards. Immediately thereafter, in the same message, Coleman urged them to send more money.

* It's likely that Mitt Romney will be facing off against Bobby Jindal for the Republican nomination in 2012. But in the short term, Romney is helping raise money for Jindal's re-election campaign.

* RNC Chairman Michael Steele has more Republican detractors than he knows what to do with, but there are handful of party leaders coming to his defense. Florida Republican Party Chairman Jim Greer, for example, believes the party should offer Steele "unwavering loyalty and support."

Ah, yes. I remember when Coleman vowed to stop using attack ads. Look at how moral I am! I've stopped beating puppies!

Camp Coleman Compromises Contributors' Credit Cards, Continues Crazy Campaign

We keep reading about Arlen Specter's problems with keeping his Republican Senate seat in Pennsylvania. The other republican, Toomey, would be a return to having a Rick Santorum-like character representing the state.

So while Specter may be a problem, Toomey would be worse, IMO. My question is this: Who do the Pennsylvania Democrats have to run for this seat? Anyone?

Jindal won't run in 2012.

Coleman should start a new slogan for the republicans - Vote Republican We're Just Careless".

I suspect after hearing the 'response,' Romney is no longer concerned about Jindal's prospects. Additionally, the party just doesn't handle minority leaders well on a national stage. I don't see Jindal happening at all anymore. I also don't see Palin happening.

Because Norm Coleman is just the guy I want safeguarding the economy, I'm sending him more money now. But I'm charging it to my cancelled credit card.

While we are on the subject of fund raising:

I have started a fund raising appeal for 'The FTS Fund'!

"Free the Simons" from the tyranny of taxpayer dependence...
Helping Pave The Way
Maximum Contributions $.02

To my misfortune, I am residing in Indianapolis, Indiana. The 2 richest people in the city are the Simon brothers, who own a 'zillion' malls & office buildings & the Indiana Pacers pro basketball team. They are threatening to move the Pacers if there is not a major increase in the amount of funding that they already receive from taxpayers.

Contributions may be mailed to:
'Hit the Road Jack'
PO Box 00000-1
Indianapolis, IN 46200

Please - no contributions charged to credit cards that have been canceled due to being Coleman supporters.

I've seen discussion of US Reps. Joe Sestak and Pat Murphy, and PA State Rep. Josh Shapiro. Supposedly, US Rep. Alison Schwartz has announced that she's not interested in a run for Senate, and I've seen no indications that '04 Democratic nominee Joe Hoeffel is either.

The ReRushlickin's struggle over Steele continues to shower us with more and more buttery popcorn almost every day... And Steele said he wasn't going to provide popcorn, in so many words! That's as big a turnaround as his apology to Loombowel!

Sestak has ruled out a 2010 Senate race. Murphy is still a possibilty and I believe Shapiro is a given to run.

I think everything's in a holding pattern while waiting to see what Specter will do. I used to think he'd never switch parties (he's been a Republican way too long), but now, hell, who knows? Perhaps Ed Rendell's giving him the sales pitch in private now.

This is touted by Drudge as an implied negative, but I think Gibbs is cool for saying so:

Obama spokesman `enjoyed' lashing of CNBC host
Mar 13 02:55 PM US/Eastern

WASHINGTON (AP) - The White House's chief spokesman on Friday said he enjoyed watching "The Daily Show" host Jon Stewart give a lashing to CNBC's Jim Cramer over how he and the business network have covered the collapsing economy.

ty, z. Do you think any of those congressional reps have the statewide recognition to challenge Toomey, should he emerge as the GOP nominee?

gf, I think you're right. This will be in a holding pattern until Specter decides what he's going to do. I didn't think he'd ever switch parties, either, but it's looking increasingly likely that he'll have to do just that if he wants to retain the seat.

I have family in PA, both Democrats and Republicans. ALL of them would like to see a new face in that seat, but I think the Dems would reluctantly support Specter if he was the Dem candidate. Their fear, I'm sure, just like mine...is a Toomey victory. I don't think they want to see Santorum, Part Two in that state.

"Florida Republican Party Chairman Jim Greer, for example, believes the party should offer Steele "unwavering loyalty and support."

They've got a lot of gay voters in the Sunshine State. And pro-choice voters also, many in the ReTaliban Party even,
