OBAMA RESPONDS TO CHENEY.... Last Sunday, former Vice President Dick Cheney offered some odd and factually-challenged criticism of the White House. This Sunday, President Obama responds.
President Obama has hit back at former Vice President Dick Cheney, calling Bush administration policy on detainees at the military prison at Guantánamo Bay, Cuba, "unsustainable."
"How many terrorists have actually been brought to justice under the philosophy that is being promoted by Vice President Cheney?" Mr. Obama said Friday in an interview to be broadcast Sunday on "60 Minutes" on CBS.
The president was responding to recent charges by Mr. Cheney that the administration's decision to shut down the Guantánamo prison, along with other policies on the treatment of terrorism suspects, would make the United States more vulnerable to attacks.
Bush administration terrorism policy "hasn't made us safer," Mr. Obama said, according to excerpts of the interview released Saturday. "What it has been," he continued, "is a great advertisement for anti-American sentiment."
On a related note, Time's Bobby Ghosh reported the other day that Cheney's recent vitriol "has left many in Washington wondering if it was about more than just protecting his legacy."
Several observers think Cheney may be starting to feel the heat from Democrats' efforts to investigate the Bush Administration's counterterrorism policies -- policies Cheney advocated, and for which his proteges allegedly provided the legal basis. But if he was trying to deflect attention from Bush-era policies, Cheney's aggression will likely have the opposite effect. "If his goal was to tamp down talk of a truth commission, he has probably exacerbated the problem," a veteran Republican told TIME.
I'm a little skeptical of this -- talk of investigating the Bush administration's alleged crimes seems to have more heat than light. For that matter, Cheney doesn't need an excuse to take cheap shots at Obama; it just comes naturally. I'd pass this along, anyway, just as an FYI.

Let's see... I believe Osama's intent was to entice the US into a long drawn out war in the middle east, draining us of our resources, striking a punishing blow to the American economy (I can't help but think we could use those trillions we spent right about now), and lessening our stature in the world.
I'd say Osama played Cheney and Bu$h and the rest of the neocons like a bunch of two-bit side show marionettes.
Great job DICK.

Let's make it official: Dick Cheney's "legacy" is to be that he was sucking at the teat the U.S. taxpayers while working as a lobbyist/shill for Osama bin Laden and the Al Quaida Corporation, LLC.
Pass it on....

Sucks to be Cheney now! Just think, when the record is laid bare, he will earn the scorn of all Americans and decent democratically minded people all over the world for his vicious authoritarian actions during his tenure as VPOTUS.
Cheney and his VPO personnel have a great amount of malfeasance to answer for, and me thinks Mr. Dick is going down in short order! -Kevo

Didn't Halliburton move its headquarters to Qatar or Dubai, probably to avoid US taxes? I'm sure no matter what happens to the mentally disturbed former VP, he'll still be getting a check for his part in the Iraq invasion and the no-bid contracts. Ken Lay got away too easy and I really would hate to see Cheney get away with his crimes which make Ken Lay's pale in comparison. We need to confiscate Cheney's pacemaker and everything else he owns before he ever leaves the country again unless he is off to the Hague. Wouldn't he need to have a heart to require a pacemaker anyway.

It will be a glorious day when Darth is dragged-off to the Hague in chains after his "student" Bushit turns "world's evidence" against him for the possibility of a more lenient sentencing for his sorry self.
As Rummy said (paraphrased of course): You go to court with the evidence you have not always with the evidence you want"
He'd be the next up on the docket after Tenant and Rove turn world's evidence against him and Cheney too. Ah, what a glorious day to see these ass holes spend the rest of their sorry lives in confinement . Maybe they can share cell space with Melosavich...

Aw, Cheney's just bereft that his butt-boy didn't get his pardon. Sulking a bit, he is.

Let's remember Dick Cheney saying "Fuck you" to Senator Leahy, and how some of the righturd commentators made light of it or even backed him up (yes!) - Now we see the big dump on Obama for a rather petty slip on Special Olympics.

I've heard people say that Cheney is the poster child for the philosophy that the ends justify the means. I think it's even worse than that: Cheney is the poster child (apologies to all actual people on posters, you don't deserve such comparisons) for the intent of the end justifies the means. By any means neccesary can be a defendible tactic, at certain times in very specific situations, but if you are going to throw everything dear to the wolves, you'd better win, otherwise you sold your soul for nothing. And win or lose, if you can't acknowledge what you've done, and follow the trail of breadcrumbs back home, then you have failed completely.

And that is a damned shame.

Poster people don't deserve such comparison, but children do??? You'd have millions of children burdened with it, for life, without so much as "by your leave"??? Shame on you for a non-patriot you are!!!

Has Biden lost his tongue? Shouldn't one vp be addressing the lies of another?

Odd that Cheney should suddenly start thinking about public relations and politics--things he seemed indifferent to while in office.

President Obama is quite right to dismiss criticisms of his policies emanating from the disgusting likes of Dick Cheney: myself, I would have preferred a more direct (if less Presidential) approach like:
"To quote former Vice President Cheney's own words: 'Fuck you!'"
However, the President's comments are still, IMO, missing the point, as "bringing" anyone "to justice" was so far off the list of priorities for the Bush-Cheney regime that even mentioning it is virtually a non sequitur. AFAICT, the main purpose of the Bush-Cheney gang's detainee policy was simply one of arrogant dick-swinging in order to look "tough" to a freaked-out American public hysterical after 9/11/01. And said "toughness" used mostly as a lever for domestic political advantage. "Justice"? Heh.

If the USA is attacked again, much responsibility for the losses will rest right on President Obama shoulders and his action.
