THURSDAY'S CAMPAIGN ROUND-UP....Today's installment of campaign-related news items that wouldn't generate a post of their own, but may be of interest to political observers.

* Organizing for America is launching its first television ads. The goal, not surprisingly, is to rally support for the president's budget.

* Sen. Arlen Specter (R-Pa.) says he's not worried about trailing in next year's Republican primary in Pennsylvania. He's putting on a brave face, but if Specter weren't afraid, he wouldn't have flipped on EFCA.

* Vice President Joe Biden is also helping out in the special election in New York's 20th, appearing in a radio ad in support of Democrat Scott Murphy. The election is Tuesday.

* Speaking of New York's 20th, Democrats are also exploiting public revulsion of Rush Limbaugh.

* Sen. Richard Burr (R-N.C.) has been rumored as one of the Republicans' vulnerable incumbents, and there's new polling data to back up the talk. A poll from the conservative Civitas Institute shows Burr trailing state Attorney General Roy Cooper (D), 41% to 38%, even though Burr has better name recognition.

* Speaking of vulnerable incumbents, a Public Policy Polling survey in Arkansas shows Sen. Blanche Lincoln with a modest 45% approval rating, but reasonably solid leads over her likely Republican challengers.

* Is Arnold Schwarzenegger going to run for the Senate? Yesterday, the California Republican said, "I'm not running for anything." Asked if that meant he is ruling out a race against Sen. Barbara Boxer, Schwarzenegger added, "When I say I'm not running for anything, that's exactly what I mean ... until you change the Constitution."

"When I say I'm not running for anything, that's exactly what I mean ... until you change the Constitution." - Arnold Schwarzenegger

Be afraid, be very afraid.

"President Schwarzenegger today unveiled a new missile defense system, labeled 'SkaiNit'. "It's totally different, don't worry", he remarked."

Arnold - Go F*ck your steriod self.

We will fight like crazy to keep from having the Constitution amended to let your freak ass run for president.

Ha. President Schwarzenegger. Wasn't there a Stallone movie loosely based on Huxley's Brave New World where Arnold was President and all restaurants were Taco Bell?

Ah, yeah, Demolition Man.

Fiction.

From the Cellizza piece on Rush:

The mailer provides an interesting window into a broader Democratic strategy to demonize Limbaugh for political gain. Will it work next Tuesday?

Political gain? Who brought Rush into the mainstream GOP? Was it not their own CPAC? Was it not the GOP overall? Who has been apologizing to him?

Honestly, STFU, Cellizza.

"Democrats are also exploiting public revulsion of Rush Limbaugh."

Now this is exploitation we can believe in!! ;)

So, no Arnold run. Cool.

Arnie is kind of a doof, but he's far and away the most sane and reasonable, high profile Republican in the country. If you put a gun to my head and made me pick a Republican to be President, he'd be at the top of my list.

I have to agree that Arnold has more sense than most of the American-born Repub govs at this point. He hasn't been playing games with the stimulus funds and he didn't use Obama's Special Olympics gaffe to bash the president.
I think he's actually been more supportive of the president since he took office than a-holes like Evan Bayh. Arnold hasn't formed a group with no agenda but to obstruct Obama, Bayh did.

Blanche Lincoln is too useless for words. A-1 primo evidence that being a corporate shill is not a surefire path to success in a red state.

Well, the sheeple are dumb enough to vote for Ahnold for Prez. The reason he won twice in CA is that a large chunk of the usually reliable Democratic voters (read: hispanic males) fell for his "Macho Macho Man" Village People persona.

So, for this reason I think we can count on such an amendment having no chance of passing until Ahnold's death, at least.

Democrats are also exploiting public revulsion of Rush Limbaugh.
For good TV ads, play the footage of Rush shaking around mocking the Parkinson syndrome of Michael Fox (as well as drug problem reminders, etc.)

Richard Burr - wasn't he the star of "Ice Station Zebra?"

Posted by: Virginia on March 26, 2009 at 1:34 PM | PERMALINK

What's that? The so-called Arlen Specter flip-flopped again? In other news, the sun rose this morning.

Sorry
Gonad the Barbarian couldn't win a Republican primary in CA

How's he gonna run against Sen. Boxer ?

After his latest budget fiasco, he couldn't be elected dog catcher (though, he's highly qualified for that job)

What I don't understand is that Sen Feinstein is more popular that Sen Boxer

Go figure
DiFi is a 'moderate' Democrat who backed George Bush's policies, down the line
She's basically a female John McCain

How does she maintain her popularity ??

What Chuchundra said. I sure would have preferred to have Governor Schwartzenegger as president from 2001-2009 than the total fool we did have.

Ahhhnuld couldn't get elected dog-catcher in a California GOP primary today. In fact, had he had to go through that process to become Governor, he couldn't have managed that, either.

Which is too bad, because I'd just love to see Ahhhnuld join the pile of meat and bone that
s what's left of the men who thought over the past 30 years that they could take on "that little housewife from Marin County" (as one of her first victims called her way back when).

And if he thinks he could survive a Republican primary campaign nation-wide for Prresident, then he's even more delusional than most Hollywood stars. I used to think he was one of the smartest guys I ever met in The Industry, but he's certainly demonstrated that kind of intelligence only plays in limited situations.

and during rush's CPAC speech...

he didn't have the decency to wear an american flag pin...
