The Republican "Budget"

I've been trying to figure out what to say about the House Republicans' new "budget". I think it's pretty neat that they decided to use those cute bubbles instead of numbers. Maybe next week they'll present their budget using interpretive dance or little animated jelly beans.

I also like the way they say serious-sounding things like this:

"Republicans believe that future generations should not be burdened by mountains of debt for the misguided choices made by Democrats today. Instead, working families should be able to keep more of what they earn and pass those savings to future generations." (p. 10)

-- and then go on to propose a whole raft of new tax cuts and only one specific spending cut, "ending the bailouts". The whole thing has a sort of Dada quality to it that's almost endearing. But I wasn't sure what level of ridicule could possibly be adequate to it.

Luckily, Nate Silver has the answer:

Via John Cole, a Fark thread has some interesting suggestions:

There are lots more where that came from. Enjoy!

Interesting!
Maybe by next week one of them could learn to use triangles and present us with flow-charts!!!

An added bonus: they've promised a "real" budget next Wednesday.

April 1 = April Fool's Day = GOP Budget Day

My favorite:

Current economic shitcan ----> serious looking octagon -------> tax cut cube -----> Happy, wholesome American families.

I love underpants gnome references!

You only need three bubbles: end all domestic spending programs, abolish the Federal Reserve, and reestablish the gold standard. After that, the Republicans go home, leaving John Galt in charge.

Like Matt Taibbi's prose, we need some way to weaponize that amazing Fark thread. The comedy will defeat the terrorisms! Thank you very much GOP, you did help.

Adjective Bird Whiskey: I don't trust white people or their budgets.

then you'll love the republican party. it's led by a black guy and an indian, and instead of a budget they have a crayon drawing of a bald eagle high-fiving jesus.

Uh, you can call them bubbles. Republicans would rather call them zeros, and the consider themselves "Back in the Saddle Again". No reason their stimulus strategy can't be applied to any budget.

Memo to GOP: you have no chance to survive make your time.

Of course, the GOP's fail only advances the ball but so much, as big business is already investing heavily in 'centrist' Dems.

Hmmm - Eliminating Idaho does have it's merits.

Can understand their Cut Taxes mantra, but, why won't they take a stand the Jennifer Anniston-Mayer debacle?

Eliminating Idaho does have its merits.

Idaho is the most Republican state in the nation. They'd sooner get rid of California.

I agree Marc! First thing I thought of when I saw your post was the South Park Underpants Gnomes!

Don't forget the most important thing in the world to republicans this week...Pass constitutional amendment to make the dollar the US currency.
Then all their other most important constitutional amendments to discriminate against gay people, constitutional amendment to ban flag burning, constitutional amendment to outlaw abortion, constitutional amendment to give the death penalty to anybody with too many parking tickets, constitutional amendment to give tax cuts to rich people. Problems solved. Profit$$$!!!

That Fark thread is full of so much win. I damn near gave myself internal hemorrhaging from laughing so hard.

And the "Shakedown Mexican drug Lords, go sell the weed to Feingold" was freaking genius. Pure. Genius.

As was this:

Adjective Bird Whiskey: I don't trust white people or their budgets.

then you'll love the republican party. it's led by a black guy and an indian, and instead of a budget they have a crayon drawing of a bald eagle high-fiving jesus.

What they really ought to do is trademark 'Feingold' as a great name for a new kind of marijuana.

(Doesn't matter if it's illegal, you can still trademark it).

Then get Feingold arrested for encouraging drug smugglers.
