TANCREDO'S SKEPTICISM.... In one of his latest hysterical tirades, Rush Limbaugh argued that the only way to get "promoted in the Barack Obama administration" is by "hating white people or even saying you do or that they're not good -- put them down, whatever."

Appearing on MSNBC yesterday, former Rep. Tom Tancredo (R-Colo.) was asked whether he agreed with the right-wing shock-jock. "Oh," Tancredo said, "I don't know."

When pressed by David Shuster on his uncertainty, Tancredo replied, "What do I -- I have no idea if they hate white people or not. But I will tell you this: I am sick of having people suggest that because I am Caucasian, I cannot -- and that's the suggestion here -- is that if you are white, Caucasian, male, you cannot comment on this sort of thing."

Tancredo, in other words, is feeling sorry for himself. He wants to say outrageous and offensive things to as large an audience as possible, without feeling put upon.

As for Tancredo's insane argument that the National Council of La Raza is a "Latino KKK," the former congressman was asked if he'd apologize for the remark. Tancredo literally laughed at the idea.

For all of the Democrats' various problems, they are blessed to have ridiculous rivals.

Steve -- shouldn't we be pushing back that, in fact, Tom Tancredo is the "KKK without the hoods and nooses"?

It's a hollow victory if your opponent can't get it up, but you have no balls.

It certainly looks like the racist loons are winning the day in Republican circles.

Which is great! Even people who don't pay much attention to politics or current events are getting pounded over the head by racist nonsense coming from Tancredo, Limbaugh, Gingrich, and the entire Fox News cabal. This will lead such casual observers of politics (actually the vast majority of the citizenry) to indelibly connect the Republican Party with the most base racism.

Only after the GOP has shrunk down to the "True Believers" epitomized by Rush et al--making it a party with perhaps 5 or 6 million adherents in a nation of 300 million people--will a new conservatism arise to provide a home and voice to people like Snowe and Voinovich. Meanwhile, it's quite a show for the rest of us.

Tancredo laughed off the suggestion that La Raza has more than one meaning and the La Raza people said it means "Community. Well, the name Tancredo may have more than one meaning, but, it should be permanently enshrined as meaning "Racist". Now, go back to playing Mortimer Snerd on the lap of Lou Dobbs, Racist.

Remember when Dem politicians were routinely put on the spot about what they thought of the latest thing that someone like Al Sharpton had said, and were expected to almost ritually issue statements distancing themselves from him?

I'd like to see guys like Mitch McConnell and John Boehner and John Cornyn routinely put on the same hot seat when Rush and Glenn Beck and Gordon Liddy and so forth make even more crazy statements.

Won't happen, of course, because the Villagers aren't wired that way.

However, before Robert Gibbs and the Obama Administration "walk back" any words spoken by Judge Sotomayor, I would suggest they, at 1600, learn a new word in Spanish. It is Cojones! Learn it, develop it and stand tall, pilgrims. Stand and fight.

We are lucky that our "enemies" are stupid. Place Tancredo near the top of the list. There are plenty of Bozos on this bus...

in a more perfect world Rachel Maddow would not be the only MSNBC on-air talent to visit this site for information/talking points/counter arguments.

Shuster vs Tancredo was a sorry sight to see. . .

i'm surprised tancredo didn't whip out the first amendment.

you know, the magical amendment that makes it illegal for others to point out what a moron you are.

In a more perfect world, Robert Gibbs (or a staffer) would visit this site 3-4 times every day to so he would be prepared to shoot down RW nonsense instead of enable it.

And, why is it that this site won't remember my personal info? I don't have that problem anywhere else.

Yes, Tancredo, please keep going on national TV and running your mouth. Each time you do, you become further removed from ever obtaining any political office again.

However, everytime I see and hear leading Democrats "walk back" or become passive against the RepuGs, I am reminded of a tale from the making of "Ben Hur". Yakima Canutt trained Heston for the chariot races. He spent a great deal of time with him. Even with all of the prep, Heston appeared extremely nervous before the first shoot. Yakima grabbed Heston's shoulders, looked him in the eye and said, "You're going to win, you're going to win". Would someone please tell those at 1600 and on the left side of the aisles in Congress that last November, "You Won, You Won!" Quit rolling over.

I don't hate white people (I am one), but I hate Tom Tancredo. Does that count?

I am getting a little giddy at the thought of how this nomination has driven the GOP into showing their true colors, just in case some people had fallen for their "we're not racist, we want a big tent" rhetoric.

It is interesting that he identifies the attack on what he said with his race "Caucasian". But the attack, actually just questioning, was coming from David Shuster, who looks pretty "Caucasian" himself.

We all have that problem here. Deal with it or post elsewhere.

Well, can you name a patriotic Democrat who has any interest in protecting our borders and sovereignty.

Self-hating white liberals will learn a good lesson in about thirty years.
