'ACCOMPLISHMENTS'.... Bill Kristol thinks Sarah Palin's bizarre resignation may be "shrewd," in part because she's "probably accomplished most of what she was going to get done as governor."
Now, perhaps it's unfair to expect Palin to have "accomplished" much. She's only going to serve 30 of her 48 months in her one term, and a few of those 30 were spent traveling the country as a national candidate. Presumably, Palin could spend the next 18 pursuing more of her policy agenda, but by all appearances, she hasn't actually thought of one.
But Kristol's argument -- Palin has already built a record of accomplishments that she "probably" couldn't build on -- leads one to wonder what, exactly, she's done.
The outgoing governor's press office put together a list of Palin "accomplishments," which is quite thin.
Indeed, some of the points aren't really "accomplishments" at all. "Maintained biologically-sound wildlife management" is not an accomplishment. Turning down a pay raise is not an accomplishment. The list boasts that Palin filled vacancies to state positions, but if that's an accomplishment, her administration has lowered the bar pretty low, since that's one of those basic duties for all governors.
My personal favorite was the list's reference to recent U.S. Supreme Court rulings regarding Alaska -- as if the justices' work counts as one of her own personal "accomplishments."
In the non-political world, I think this is known as "shamelessly padding one's resume." I wonder why Kristol would find this impressive?

It may be shrewd and she probably has accomplished most of what she can as governor.
Governing during a crisis is bad for her resume, and she knows it. During a bubble, it's easy to make unreasonable promises sound reasonable. But making hard choices during a downturn inevitably upsets supporters.
It's much easier to be unreasonable when you don't have any responsibilities, so she chose between the two and gave up her responsibilities.

How are those investigations going? For her to quit so abruptly, with so little planning, this can't be about her candidacy for president in 2012. I'm waiting for the other shoe to drop.

Kristol is doing what he has always done: game the US system for the benefit of the Israeli right. His calculation: a President Palin would help them annex the West Bank. It's as easy as that.

that question at the last of the post... wondering why bill the bloody is impressed with sarah palin.
sarcasm? one of your better 'subtle' punch lines in the genre.
as for william the conqueor (from behind mommy's apron):
he loves sarah because the vacuous always need and admire the vacuous.

Considering that she's alienated her legislature and her judiciary, as well as most of the voting population of AK, I'd say Kristol's correct: She's "accomplished most of what she was going to get done as governor" because she has rendered herself completely ineffectual.

As St Sarah takes credit for breaking ground for a new state prison, do hope it includes a Todd Palin Wing.

Kristol's woeful track record of predictions means Palin is toast. You can't lose betting against the moon-faced snake.
Palin's entertainment value has just soared.
She's done the outsider bit before, and probably thinks she can do it on a national stage. Assuming she believes her own press releases, and what politician doesn't, she sees herself at the top of the ticket in 2012. The Rethugs have lost their collective mind, but if she winds up running against Obama, their brand will become museum material, i.e., displayed with a little card explaining what a Republican was.
This could be a fun ride.

Anybody see Monkey Boy's image on one of Hilzoy's thread? Looks like another daughter is with child, or has been eating watermelons.

Some of my favorite comments
"mind so shallow as to be all surface".
- saying it's in Alaska's best interest for her to not seek reelection, thus raising the question, "if Alaska is better without her, how could America be better with her?
Sarah's STRAIGHT TALK is the same psycho babble it always was. When she's done talking, all you can do is shake your head and say huh?
Few things are more frightening than the thought of Sarah Palin having any element of control over my life, liberty and happiness.

When has Kristol been right about anything? Ever?
He's been a part of the republican noise machine for so long that all he really knows is how to make noise. Making sense takes a back seat to making noise.

Kristol's list of accomplishments is right in line with the arguments "reasonable men" were making last year that seeing Russia from her front porch was foreign policy experience enough to qualify her to be VP.
Contrast the hounding the "liberal media" has given her to its treatment of the Clinton's over Whitewater, and the horrid things Republicans said about Chelsea Clinton with what the media has said about her children. Had Clinton resigned using this hounding as the reason, the Palins of the world would have nailed him as "the quitter" until the end of time.
She lusts to be President - she couldn't even take the heat the media focused on the governor of a relatively minor state. Not to mention much of that heat is based on her own actions, for which she has yet to take the slightest degree of responsibility.

"When has Kristol been right about anything?"
When, he said that a successful health care plan implemented by the Democratic Party would set the Republicans back for years.

Kristol is a smug, incredibly stupid preppy, without a shred of honor or brain-power. Barely a human and certainly of no substance....

If you look at Bill Kristol's own resumé (failed at Time Magazine, failed at the New York Times, failed as McCain adviser, failed as Dan Quayle's brain), it's easy to see why he finds Sarah Palin's record so impressive.

Compared to Kristol's accomplishments, this is impressive.
Hell, I passed the tests for my driver's license on the first try. That's impressive too ... to someone who took five or six shots at it before randomly checking enough of the boxes that turned out to be for the correct answers. Turn right? turn left? That's a coin-flip. Kristol probably had that one nailed -- about half the time, on average.

I once heard a high school vocal music director comment that if you put turd on a stage and called it "The Sound of Music" then a certain group of people would come to see it no matter what. Kristol is obviously one of that group.
They have no shame, they're Republicans.
