WEDNESDAY'S CAMPAIGN ROUND-UP....Today's installment of campaign-related news items that wouldn't generate a post of their own, but may be of interest to political observers.

* Left with no other choice, and after having been turned down by other sought-after candidates, the National Republican Senatorial Committee broke down yesterday and got behind former Rep. Pat Toomey's Senate campaign in Pennsylvania.

* Sen. Arlen Specter's fundraising looks strong, but not overwhelming. He took in $1.73 million in the second quarter and has about $7.5 million in cash on hand.

* Can Joe Sestak beat Specter in a Democratic primary next year? Sen. Bob Casey (D) thinks he can.

* In Nevada, polls show Senate Majority Leader Harry Reid (D) with tepid support for re-election, but his fundraising is still looking strong, raising $3.25 million in the second quarter. He does not yet have a credible Republican challenger.

* If New York Gov. David Paterson (D) is planning to seek a second term, he's going to have to pick up the fundraising pace.*

* Rep. Mike Castle (R) is expected to launch a Senate campaign next year, but his fundraising doesn't reflect preparation for a big campaign -- he only raised $125,000 in the second quarter.

* While Charlie Crist enjoys support from the Republican establishment, Marco Rubio continues to pick up right-wing support for his Senate campaign in Florida. Rubio's latest endorsement is from Dick Armey.

* Next year's gubernatorial race in Tennessee is wide open.

* So is next year's gubernatorial race in South Carolina.

* And in California yesterday, Democrat Judy Chu won a special election to the U.S. House, succeeding Hilda Solis, who left the House to become Labor Secretary.

* corrected

I'm pretty sure that, despite a few other professional missteps, that David Paterson isn't an (R).

You had me at "National Republican Senatorial Committee broke down yesterday."

How sweet it is.....

Of course Harry Reid has raised a lot of money, he is Mormon. His son is an attorney.....

Mormons have a lot of money. It's a money-making machine.

See those guys in your neighborhood with the white shirts, black tie and pants. These are missionaries. They pay their own way. Must provide for their own expenses. They pay rent to whoever owns the Mormon property where they are staying while on their mission.

Reid...does not yet have a credible Republican challenger.

I'd rather see him have a credible Democratic challenger. Caspar Milquetoast needs to be removed from the United States Senate. He's hopeless.

Just a stylistic comment, but perhaps you should use a different symbol as a footnote indicator (for *corrected) than the asterisk -- especially in a post that denotes bullet points with asterisks.

:)

While you're at it, how about fixing the glitch that ignores requests to remember personal info?

Well, maybe the next Mormon to run up against him is Willard "Mitt" Romney. You know, the guy that owns all those Sober Living By The Sea homes in the Orange County coastal areas.

I'll bet the taxes these guys save using the "Temples."

Aargh, let me stop. People will have to find out on their own about these scamming schemes.

I'd like to point out that Judy Chu, a Chinese-American, was elected in a district here in California that is dominated by the Hispanic vote. I think this is important because it shows strong support for the Democratic brand that is inclusive and crosses ethnic lines.

Rep. Mike Castle (R) is expected to launch a Senate campaign next year, but his fundraising doesn't reflect preparation for a big campaign -- he only raised $125,000 in the second quarter.

I'm betting that he doesn't run.

I know nothing about Castle, or about Delaware politics, but everything in the news so far has suggested a guy who isn't particularly eager to run for Senate, and who might even be announcing his upcoming retirement if a lot of people weren't leaning on him to run for Senate.

"My hope is that Senator SPECTOR DOES NOT HAVE A CONTESTED PRIMARY"

No where in that interview does Casey say,...he thinks Sestak can beat Specter.

"Can Joe Sestak beat Specter in a Democratic primary next year? Sen. Bob Casey (D) thinks he can."

The writer of that headline is either lazy, an idiot or a propagandist.

The real headline should have been, "Bob Casey hopes that Senator SPECTOR DOES NOT HAVE A CONTESTED PRIMARY."

Reid doesn't have a credible Republican challenger because he's sold us Democrats out a million times, and the Republicans will never run anyone credible against their own MVP.

I love it that we don't see Al Franken mentioned in this anymore.
