DEMS WILL NOT CONCEDE ON STIMULUS.... House Minority Leader Eric Cantor (R-Va.), as part of his efforts to undermine confidence in the stimulus package, is talking to reporters again today to blast the recovery package. Just as important, though, the White House and its allies aren't ceding any ground to Cantor on the issue.

The DNC, for example, is reminding journalists today that, as recently as April, Cantor was in home district bragging about the thousands of jobs to be created in his home state, including a high-speech rail project in his district.

"It's not that surprising that yet another Republican has been caught speaking out of both sides of his mouth on the effects of the Recovery Act. But Eric Cantor and his fellow Republicans can't have it both ways. Either they are for economic recovery and the jobs it's bringing to the folks they represent, or they are against it," said DNC national press secretary Hari Sevugan in an e-mail.

What's more, it's not just the DNC.

Vice President Biden plans a political broadside this afternoon in the home district of Rep. Eric Cantor (R-Va.), accusing the senior Republican lawmaker of joining in his party's smear of the $787 billion Recovery and Reinvestment Act.

"To those who say that our economic decisions 'have not produced jobs, have not produced prosperity, and simply have not worked' I say, take a look around," Biden will say, according to prepared remarks obtained by The Washington Post.

"I say, 'Don't let your opposition to the Recovery Act blind you to its results,'" Biden plans to say in the Richmond speech. "'Come see what I see everywhere I go: workers rehired, factories reopened, cops on the street, teachers in the classroom, progress toward getting our economy back on the move.'"

Biden will reportedly not mention Cantor directly, but given the location of the VP's speech and the message, the volley is hard to miss.

"I ask those critics.... Would they not help the states prevent lay off thousands of teachers, firefighters, cops?" Biden will say in the remarks. "Would they not give a tax cut to 95 percent of the American people? Would they sit back and do nothing as our economy collapsed?"

Last week, Biden was in Ohio, shortly after House Minority Leader John Boehner (R) became embarrassingly confused about stimulus efforts in his home state. This week, he's in Virginia, confronting Cantor's rhetoric.

The message seems obvious: the White House isn't going to concede anything when it comes to Republicans' economic arguments. Sounds like a good idea.

"...including a high-speech rail project in his district."

That does sound like the sort of project Cantor would favor.

It's so nice to finally see the Dems pushing back against the Repug lies and misinformation.

The hypocrisy of Republicans on this issue is just getting out of hand. At least Sanford and Palin actually turned the momey down while they were critizizing the stimulus (granted they probably knew they would be overruled by their legislatures).

What's even more frustrating is that the MSN never calls them on it.

In order of magnitude are:
1) Half truths
2) Lies
3) Blatant lies
4) Everything coming out of the mouths of the Obama administration

Everyone knows that government spending has never created a single job!

Everyone knows that jobs are created by the investments of the wealthy!

Everyone knows that the only meaningful stimulus package would exclusively cut taxes for those who actually create jobs in our country!

Therefore, any claims that the federal stimulus package creates or created jobs is an outright lie. Therefore, the only way to create jobs in our country is to reduce taxes on the wealthy. Therefore, to create the most jobs in our country (using John McCain's analysis of what level of income makes a person wealthy), we should eliminate all taxes on those making more than $5 million a year.

This is actually the best thing I've heard about the Obama administration yet.

Part of the reason people respond to Republicans is their aura of power. With Democrats actively spurning their "advice," they will start to become the whiney-loser party and have to deal with such elevated and effective attacks such as, "shut up, loser," that haunted the Democrats for years.

I think Gov. Perry needs to sign TX up for that "high-speech rail project"

Perry tends to talk out both sides of his mouth too, more about secession, but its still not helpful.
Is there a chance AT ALL that a viable Dem will run in TX? Gimme a glimmer of hope...

The other day Obama basically informed his critics that his is willing to take ownership of the country's economy - if the'll 'give it to him'.

The question is: Will they? A lot of stimulus money for the states and other projects was cut from the bill, so the opposition still has some ownership of the downturn and higher unemployment.

In spite of all the BS and hand wringing, getting a honest energy bill passed that reduces green house gasses and supplies clean energy will create a lot of jobs. Until Obama gets what he want without all the best parts being stripped out of the legislation, the opposition still has ownership of rising unemployment and global temperatures.

We're already spending waaay more than a trillion dollars a year on health care in this country. Legislation that gets more bang for the buck, eliminates a large chunk of private industry waste fraud and abuse, and insures 50 million more will actually free up real money for middle class workers. That would have the immediate effect of giving families more cash on hand (spending to stimulate the economy) So Opponents of reform still have to take ownership for denying another opportunity to get the country back to work.

The Republicans really should just shut up about the economy until the are willing to "give it to Obama' and let him own it enacting his goals and agenda.

Still waiting for the scandal to break on Cantor!!!

Cap'n Chucky, @14:34,

Regarding that "high-speech"... Cantors are famous for their high voices, both in speech and in singing (their main function). Maybe he's the last of the castrati... :)

This is really good news. Biden is effective at being an attack dog without seeming like he's actually angry about anything.

I also love the strategy of coming after people in their home states when they're being two-faced about stimulus money.

Am I misreading this, but it sure sounds like the White House is running away from the "stimulus" .. err .. Stabilization Act

Turns out the $787 billion “American Recovery and Reinvestment Act” (AARA) was not designed for full economic recovery, but rather to “stabilize” the downturn. That’s the word from White House officials today, who held off-camera briefings with reporters on how the AARA is working so far.
“This legislation was designed to cushion the downturn,” said White House Press Secretary Robert Gibbs. “That’s why we have always talked about this as one function of economic recovery.”
When pressed about the change in terminology, Gibbs said he was not trying to temper expectations after the fact. “I can probably find 15 or 20 occasions when I said this in the lead up,” Gibbs said, explaining that he had always defined the AARA as part of a “multi-legged stool.”

::snicker::

I'm sure Joe Biden will just nail that speech.

Maybe someone will remind him that government workers won't get us out of the economic recession. Only the private sector will.

Al Jr., let me guess, you are sitting on a farm, right? Begging for government subsidies, right? You've been brainwashed into thinking your acres of land will help you through this economy, right?

Well, you can deny it, it you want. But, the thing is, if you were one of the elites, you would be, say, out for happy-hours, out with one woman - yet carefully avoiding another.

But, continue to blog here, we love hearing your way of thinking.

As far as the private sector. Ooh, I think I hear something - oh, it was the jets taking off. Well buddy, hate to tell you, but most of the private sector, especially big corporations are not hiring.

Yup, seems the small business owner is being denied the loans they need from the greedy banks.
And the corporations are setting up shop in other countries.

As a reminder, Wal-Mart set up a store in India. However, the government told Wal-Mart they cannot sell any goods to the citizens, only hotels and restaurants, or other big corporations. So, only wholesale, no retail, because they will not put the small business owner out of business.
