DOBBS GETS CREATIVE IN HIS CRITICISM.... CNN's Lou Dobbs' obsession with right-wing conspiracy theories about President Obama's birthplace continues, in part, the television personality says, because Birthers "don't have representation." One assume Dobbs is excluding the members of Congress and major media figures, such as himself, who insist this nonsense is a legitimate issue.

Yesterday, as part of his angry response to widespread disgust with his crusade, Dobbs lashed out at, among others, Rachel Maddow, whom Dobbs labeled a "tea-bagging queen."

I'm not sure how, exactly, Dobbs came to choose this particular label for the MSNBC host. If the CNN personality wanted to blast Maddow, he probably could have chosen an attack that makes more ideological and physiological sense.

Thankfully, Maddow briefly responded to Dobbs' odd criticism last night. "[W]e're left to sort out the deeply confusing nature of what it means to be called a 'tea-bagging queen by Lou Dobbs,'" Maddow said. "A 'tea-baggin queen'? What kind of queen would that be, exactly? And can a female person be that kind of queen?"

I don't imagine Dobbs will respond, but I can hope.

Teabagging Queen - Lou Dobbs has just shown his jizzed out hand after his usual intellectual masterbation! -Kevo

Why bother about the utterings of the clinically insane.

I personally think that Lou Dobbs is an intellectual giant, but to allay concerns of the left about his sanity, I demand that Lou produce a long form clean bill of his mental health from a board certified psychiatrist.

Note to Lou: Rachel is a lesbian and quite open about it. She don't "Teabag" so your "insult" was way off the mark. If you're going to call her names then you might want to consider insults that are more accurate.

Being 43 and having gone through a crazy dance phase in early 80s at NEW WAVE Clubs, listening to Human League,Boy George, etc..; I, for one, much to my chagrin, in a drunken state - could have been called a tea-bagging queen.

But Rachel? Sigh...if the re-puke-licans are going to quote stock phrases, can they please be instructed in proper usage!?!

She is the queen of teabaggers? Isn't Rick Perry of Texas that already?

Posted by: mlm on July 29, 2009 at 10:14 AM | PERMALINK

This is great. Lou has linked Liberal Maddow with Tea baggers. Thus, alienating the tea baggers.

RE: "Teabagging."

You keep using that word. I do not think it means what you think it means.

Posted by: BrendanInBoston on July 29, 2009 at 10:35 AM | PERMALINK

Well, the semantics of name-calling don't really require coherence, and the 'coherence' thing isn't one of Dobbs' strong points. The guy is just doing the best he can.

Posted by: MattF on July 29, 2009 at 10:37 AM | PERMALINK

My guess is that Dobbs was referring to Maddow's gleeful use of the teabagging entendre back in April. From that perspective, the epithet makes sense. It has nothing to do with the validity of birtherism, but I can see why Dobbs would associate that word with Maddow.

The low brow art bil kristol recently brought to a Daily Show episode , is as deep a penetration into the laissez-faire style courtier mental gymnastics as is humanely supportable .
This demonstration exposes the deep cynicism of the various actors in their well worn roles , sighing and winking about their supposed angst . The care is only for the care of an actor in a role .

I imagine Lou-Lou was hurling what he thought passed for an anti-gay slur, never imagining that such slurs are not one size fits all. That he doesn't understand the mechanics of teabagging and who does it (gay men/straight couples) any better than Mike K does is just icing on the cake of hilarity.

Republicans. They can't even have sex or insult people competently.

"I don't imagine Dobbs will respond, but I can hope."

I doubt he understood her response.

Posted by: Saint Zak on July 29, 2009 at 10:47 AM | PERMALINK

Like all playground insults, it doesn't need to make literal sense. Dobbs could have called her "doo-doo head" without actually meaning that her head was made of doo-doo, or "fart face" without meaning that her face smells like a fart. Had Rachel chosen to respond in Dobbs' vernacular, I believe the correct construction would have been "I know you are, but what am I?"

Dobbs has been reduced to the equivalent of going on-air to say "na-na boo-boo." It's just a bonus that he simultaneously insulted the Tea Party wackos and gave people who understand Rachel's gender and orientation a good laugh.

I hope someone who cares for Dobbs will see that he gets the treatment he needs and has his meds adjusted. It's time for him to retire to a nice quiet, stress-free ranch in Idaho or somewhere.

Yet another reason to love Rachel Maddow.

Posted by: Nothing But the Ruth on July 29, 2009 at 10:55 AM | PERMALINK

poor lou's confusion about the world is capcha'd completely in that phrase.

Some artist should create and give Rachel an award of some kind... preferably made of solid gold... "Lou Dobb's teabag"

alternatively, Rachel could send Lou a speculum...

Posted by: neill on July 29, 2009 at 11:04 AM | PERMALINK

Is Lou well? What kind of medical leave policy does MSNBC have? Sounds like Lou needs to "spend some time with his family," as they say inside the Beltway when the wheels come off.

Of course that's what he was doing. Which proves he's an idiot - the only reason she was going on with the double-entendres was to mock the tea-baggers. Who, I'm fairly certain, are his demographic these days. What's more, the double entendre doesn't work against Maddow because she's openly lesbian.

What Dobbs did is the equivalent of the 12 year old kid on the playground who, after receiving a brutal smackdown via insult, can only come back with "No, YOU'RE the teabagger!". At this point I'm not even sure the pathetic man even needs to be mocked - every time he opens his mouth he mocks himself.

Posted by: NonyNony on July 29, 2009 at 11:13 AM | PERMALINK

Wait a minute! I thought Teabaggers are Republicans that "want their country back". So, when that campaign didn't turn out as planned, Lou is trying to Rove off the poorly-chosen name to Liberals? Nice try Lou, but you guys are stuck with that one.

Or, Lou was actually using the derogatory form of teabagging? Tsk! Tsk! Last week the Republicans were all hot and bothered about the use of the the term "blow job" on teevee, but "teabagging" is OK? Such hypocrisy.

Posted by: Marko on July 29, 2009 at 11:15 AM | PERMALINK

Lou Dobbs motto: If you can't beat them with brains, you can always call them names and/or make fun of their spelling.

Posted by: Schtick on July 29, 2009 at 11:33 AM | PERMALINK

Lou Dobbs may be intelligent, but he is a bottom-feeding idiot who belongs on Fox News with his kind. We all know that.

Since the FNC promoted Teabagger Rallies were such a gigantic flop, maybe Lou is trying to stick Rachel with the title Teabagging Queen. Wouldn't be the first time Conservatives blamed the Libruls for their own failures, now would it? Is he that clever? Probably not.

Much more likely poor old Lou confused his GLBT slurs.

Posted by: CarolAll on July 29, 2009 at 11:40 AM | PERMALINK

Isn't calling Rachael Maddow a "teabagger" about the same as calling Rush Limbaugh a "commie"?

I mean, Lou Dobbs is a moron, that's no surprise - but this is a whole other level of stupidity.

Posted by: DH Walker on July 29, 2009 at 12:01 PM | PERMALINK

And yet even the president of CNN himself has no authority over Dobbs, no matter how insane and unbalanced his ravings get.

So who, indeed, is in charge over there? Did Roger Ailes somehow take over CNN, too?

It's neither Obama's nor the HI officials fault. But from rules, but their having (?) to just look at the birth records and say what they saw, just comes across bad to lots of people. (Well, there's already an image to look at so I'm not even sure what this release issue is about.)

Maybe Obama could allow a cameraman to take live shots of them pulling it out and showing it. It's silly and he shouldn't have to, but I don't agree that you dignify charges by responding to them (as John Kerry learned to his dismay.) I think, the stronger the response, the better.

Lou Dobbs??? .....I thought he was dead.

Posted by: Ned Pepper on July 29, 2009 at 1:20 PM | PERMALINK

The simple explanation is that Dobbs is so old and out of touch he simply assumes Maddow is a gay man I'm sure Dobbs can't really fathom the idea of a woman anchoring a national TV program.

Posted by: vanya on July 29, 2009 at 2:11 PM | PERMALINK

I guess you don't understand "context." But gonads, you must be a popular teabagger of the literal kind and not the faux tax protest kind!

PS one of the best shots i've heard around is how hypocritical to dump all over dixie chicks but now they think anything against obama is a[sshole]-ok.

Posted by: demoraptor on July 29, 2009 at 2:42 PM | PERMALINK

Here's what I want to see. Obama gets a bunch of reporters and cameramen to accompany him to the office where the One Original Vault Copy of his birth certificate is.

The camera follows him as he walks that tall-man's stride through the hallways of the Department of Records, into a room walled with filing cabinets. Closeup of the little labels on the front of the cabinets: "O-Oaker", "Oakes-Oatfield", "Oatfield-Obain", "Obain-Obansic". He pulls open that last filing cabinet drawer and extracts a manila folder and lays it on a table. Opening the folder, he quickly leafs through a stack of yellowing official-looking documents. He pulls out one of the sheets of paper and holds it up.

The camera is pointed at his face, and at the back side of the sheet of paper. "Now, on live teevee, the Original Vault Copy of my birth certificate..." Then he looks down at the sheet for a couple of seconds, makes a brief small smile, says, "Nah," whereupon he puts the sheet back in the folder; puts the folder back in the drawer; closes the drawer; strolls off silently, still slightly smiling.

I love Rachel, but I'm worried about her. That wit, forged in the crucible of Oxford, is sure to be dulled after months of matching wits with cretins like Dobbs. It's like sending Daryl Jeter to Little League for a season.
She needs to take six months off to write a book.

Posted by: Steve Paradis on July 29, 2009 at 8:33 PM | PERMALINK

So poor Rachel is confused, and at a loss to understand why she is being called the "tea-bagging queen"? For an entire week in April that famous "wit" was applied to thinking up sophmoric dick jokes. At one point she even referred to herself as having the sense of humor of a twelve year old, but carried on regardless. With nothing else "newsworthy" (to Maddow at least) happening around the globe, this Rhodes Scholar made fun, for an ENTIRE WEEK, of "unsophisticated" average Joes who did not have the skinny on what "tea-bagging" really meant - nudge nudge wink wink. With pundits like this on our side - who needs Republicans? Way to lose votes morons!

And I was under the impression that one had to be female to be a lesbian,go figger.
