TOO LATE FOR STEELE TO TURN BACK NOW.... RNC Chairman Michael Steele seems to realize the angry far-right mobs showing up at Democratic town-hall events may be problematic for Republicans, and insisted yesterday that his party is not involved with those who use intimidation tactics to stifle public discussion.
"We're not inciting anyone to go out and disrupt anything," said Steele. "We're not organizing the town halls," only encouraging individuals to visit their congressman or senator to "express their point of view."
"There's no upside for the Republican Party [in the protests]," he said later in the call. "That's not something that's coordinated or deliberately set in motion by me or anyone in the state party.
"...To sit back and say this is a Republican cabal is a bunch of baloney. And you can substitute that 'b' for something else if you want."
Steele added that Republicans "are not encouraging people to be angry to the point of being brutish and ugly."
They're not? The angry activists have already become brutish and ugly, and they've been cheered on every step of the way by elected Republican leaders, including House Minority Leader John Boehner (R-Ohio), who crowed over the right-wing "backlash," and promised a "long, hot August" for Democrats. His office promoted the mob attacks again yesterday.
For that matter, the NRCC is publicizing "Recess Roastings," promoting the notion that, as Republican leaders boast, town-hall meetings have become "town-hell" meetings.
I don't blame Steele for trying to slowly walk away from the right-wing mobs, but after all of the party's cheerleading and promotional efforts, it's a little late for the RNC chairman to shrug his shoulders and say, "Who, us?"

Maloney? Saloney? Faloney? Galoney?
The Republicans have long seemed to think that political figures shouldn't be able to speak coherantly.

Funny, I'm not seeing nearly as many new YouTube videos of the screamers as I did at the beginning of the week. I keep reading about them, but they're not being promoted nationwide.

Now Steele has had the RNC phone bank linked to the DNC regarding concerns about disruptions to town hall meetings! Talk about not wanting to see the issue for what it is - ugly political discourse sponsored and possibly paid for by Republicans and their health industry allies.
Someone needs to get the message to these political malcontents that da Nile is the longest river in the world, and as they are trying to swim its length, they will surely drown or be eaten by the crocs before too long! -Kevo

That's all Steele has to do -- shrug his shoulders and say "who me?"

Mike Steele needs to go away! As the head of the RNC & as a republican.
Real Americans and Real Republicans would never have allowed this dark skinned person to be a real member of the republican party, let alone chairman of the party!
When Real Americans take back the leadership of the RNC, it will never step in front of the locomotive of grass roots outrage against The Chosen One and his efforts to socialize medicine. Real Leaders, who are Real Americans, encourage our corporate brothers' efforts to stop ObamaCare.
Because it is the only way that the liberal media will report how serious the opposition to ObamaCare is, our followers will be forced toward increasing violence against the powers attempting to foist this upon them. Just as it is right to kill abortionists, our supporters must stand up to protect their elders from government mandated euthanization. Any violence directed against those proposing mass murder of our elders will be the fault of the liberal media and Obama, not those who are right in protesting the proposed mass murders.
Give me liberty and give you death!

obama et al are obviously not wringing the 'best deal' (which presupposes the meme that we li'l peeps have to beg korporations to stop beating us just a little bit less!) they can manage to 'reform' the healthcare / industrial komplex...
had they hoped for -you know- real changey type stuff, they could have pushed for universal/single payer and had 2/3-3/4's of the sheeple bleating them on... they folded (or -more accurately- were pre-scored and folded back and forth a few times)...
hee hee hee
i am pretty sure most sheeple are asleep at the cud concerning the ongoing kongresskritter maneuverings (especially since the process has been so -you know- transparent and fair and shit), and do not realize they are soon -given the inertia of what is developing- going to be mandated by law to buy their own crappy, over-priced, non-covering health insurance, with a guaranteed-to-fail public option that will not be in context of a universal/single payer system where it could be competitive...
ho ho ho
now *that* aspect of this whole stinking mess is only going to enrich the insurance companies further (geez, wasn't that kinda sorta the *opposite* of what this 'solution' was supposed to do? ? ?), tax/impoverish po' folks (debtors prison, anyone ?), and lead to further stratification of healthcare...
ha ha ha
socialism without the social part...
better lube up, you're about to take one up the butt for the insurance industry...

Before anyone accuses me of being crazy, you should understand that Real Americans understand that the Free Enterprise System is the answer, not socialism. In the future, we should privatize those components of government that are already socialized, not socialize more of what can be done efficiently by free enterprise.
For example, one of the most egregious cases of socialization is that of fire fighting! Obviously, fire fighting could be done more efficiently if it was privatized and profits could be earned from those services.
Naturally, we recognize that there actually is a place for government in this process. It would be inefficient for a private fire fighting company to show up at a fire and have to get payment in advance for its services. It would be inefficient to have an apartment on fire and the fire not put out because that dweller did not have insurance or the cash to pay for the services. Therefore, it would be a proper role of government to require everyone to have fire insurance.
Another example of socialism that should be reversed are the FAA and its control of 'air safety' and air traffic control. Obviously, these services should only be provided if a profit can be made from them.
Another example of socialism that should be reversed is the militiary. We obviously would have a better military if we disbanded the DOD, Army, Navy, Marines, and Coast Guard and replaced them with privatization. We would obviously have a better military if the Army was replaced by Blackwater!
There are many more examples of socialism that should be reversed. As always, where there is a profit, there is a way!
Down with socialism and up with free enterprise!

"Hopefully Steve will post Rachel's piece on this bullshit Republican astroturf project."
Until he does go here and watch the video "politics". It lays out all the connections between big right wing money, Rethug functionaries and the astroturf the MSM is swallowing as 'real america' ('real corporate let's get all the money amerca', to be distinguished from the "Real American" racist who posted above who should be barred from this Blog). Don't miss it.

I think this is a sign that they've realized their strategy backfired. One conservative blogger I sometimes read was completely hyping these mobs just a few days ago and both he and his commenters were insisting that shutting down these town hall meetings was necessary because the congressmen were telling lies about healthcare. But last night, I noticed that this same blogger is now insisting that there AREN'T angry mobs and that this was invented by the media to smear them. Just as Steele did, they're now insisting that referring to them as "angry mobs" is an attempt to stifle their voices; even though the videos CLEARLY show that it was the other way around.
So I'm thinking this phenomenon is just about over. And that's too bad. The problem wasn't that conservatives don't have an angry mob mentality, but that the public just isn't seeing it. I definitely thought it helped to get this mob mentality out in the open and on video. And once again, this all shows how conservatives work by instinct and that those instincts continue to betray them. There never was a real strategy behind their actions, but it wasn't until recently that we had Dems who knew how to exploit it.

For those who don't get it, A Real American is a parody (at least, I hope so). How can I tell? S/he is literate and writes in complete sentences and follows a logical string of ideas.

All right, folks, those who really support a public option (because that's what this shite is all about) need to get out, go to these meetings, and push back against the douche baggers, er, teabaggers. Join Organizing for America's rapid response team and sign up for an event. Go to your local Rep's meeting and stand up (literally and figuratively) for what you believe in. It's time, folks - get out there and SPEAK UP.

Is it legal to have your phone system automatically connect incoming callers to a third party's phone system? Could I advertise 'horny co-eds want you to talk dirty to them' with my phone number, then have callers forwarded to Michelle Bachman's office? Or is legality irrelevant when republicans are doing it?

LEAD, FOLLOW, OR GET OUT OF THE WAY. (Thomas Paine)
We have the 37th worst quality of healthcare in the developed world. Conservative estimates are that over 120,000 of you dies each year in America from treatable illness that people in other developed countries don't die from. Rich, middle class, and poor a like. Insured and uninsured. Men, women, children, and babies. This is what being 37th in quality of healthcare means.
I know that many of you are angry and frustrated that REPUBLICANS! In congress are dragging their feet and trying to block TRUE healthcare reform. What republicans want is just a taxpayer bailout of the DISGRACEFUL GREED DRIVEN PRIVATE FOR PROFIT health insurance industry, and the DISGRACEFUL GREED DRIVEN PRIVATE FOR PROFIT healthcare industry. A trillion dollar taxpayer funded private health insurance bailout is all you really get without a robust government-run public option available on day one. Co-OP's ARE NOT A SUBSTITUTE FOR A GOVERNMENT-RUN PUBLIC OPTION. They are a fraud being pushed by the GREED DRIVEN PRIVATE FOR PROFIT health insurance industry that is KILLING YOU!
YOU CANT HAVE AN INSURANCE MANDATE WITHOUT A ROBUST PUBLIC OPTION. MANDATING PRIVATE FOR PROFIT HEALTH INSURANCE AS YOUR ONLY CHOICE WOULD BE A DISASTER AND UNETHICAL, CORRUPT, AND MORALLY REPUGNANT. AND PROBABLY UNCONSTITUTIONAL AS WELL.
These industries have been slaughtering you and your loved ones like cattle for decades for profit. Including members of congress and their families. These REPUBLICANS are FOOLS!
Republicans and their traitorous allies have been trying to make it look like it's President Obama's fault for the delays, and foot dragging. But I think you all know better than that. President Obama inherited one of the worst government catastrophes in American history from these REPUBLICANS! And President Obama has done a brilliant job of turning things around, and working his heart out for all of us.
But Republicans think you are just a bunch of stupid, idiot, cash cows with short memories. Just like they did under the Bush administration when they helped Bush and Cheney rape America and the rest of the World.
But you don't have to put up with that. And this is what you can do. The Republicans below will be up for reelection on November 2, 2010. Just a little over 13 months from now. And many of you will be able to vote early. So pick some names and tell their voters that their representatives (by name) are obstructing TRUE healthcare reform. And are sellouts to the insurance and medical lobbyist.
Ask them to contact their representatives and tell them that they are going to work to throw them out of office on November 2, 2010, if not before by impeachment, or recall elections. Doing this will give you something more to do to make things better in America. And it will make you feel better too.
There are many resources on the internet that can help you find people to call and contact. For example, many social networking sites can be searched by state, city, or University. Be inventive and creative. I can think of many ways to do this. But be nice. These are your neighbors. And most will want to help.
I know there are a few democrats that have been trying to obstruct TRUE healthcare reform too. But the main problem is the Bush Republicans. Removing them is the best thing tactically to do. On the other hand. If you can easily replace a democrat obstructionist with a supportive democrat, DO IT!
You have been AMAZING!!! my people. Don't loose heart. You knew it wasn't going to be easy saving the World. :-)
God Bless You

Yes the republicans are being brutish and threatening and behaving like thugs in general. But Democrats, the blue dogs, in particular and Max Baucus specifically are the ones to blame. They are the ones who insisted on this recess before passing a bill. They are the ones who provided this opportunity for the thuggery to occur.
The dscc called me asking for money yesterday. I told them I would give money when the senators passed a health care act that included a strong public plan.

We first heard from the birthers, with their fake birth certificate in hand and with their fake outrage. These are the same under tones that you saw from Republicans during the confirmation hearings for Sonia Sotomayor, "you are not like us" or "you are too different", you are not main stream. And then they act surprised when people do not vote with them, they are lost, no core beliefs, too bad.
In my opinion the Republican Party has been taken over the most extreme religious right (people who love to push their beliefs on others while at the same time trying to take away their rights) and thats who they need to focus on if they real want to win. Good Luck, because as they said in WACO, We Aint Coming Out.
Its funny we hear Republicans say that they do not want faceless bureaucrats making medical decisions but they have no problem with private sector faceless bureaucrats daily declining medical coverage and financially ruining good hard working people. And who says that the private sector is always right, do we forget failures like Long-Term Capital, WorldCom, Global Crossing, Enron, Tyco, AIG and Lehman Brothers. Of course the federal government will destroy heathcare by getting involved, Oh but wait our military men and women and the Senate and Congress get the best heathcare in the world, and oh, thats right, its run by our federal government. I can understand why some may think that the federal government will fail, if you look at the past eight years as a current history, with failures like Katrina and the Walter Reed Scandal, but the facts is they can and if we support them they will succeed.
