BECK SEES A 'COUP'.... It's certainly possible that Glenn Beck doesn't know what the word "coup" means. The poor guy does, after all, think "oligarhy" is a word.
In fact, confusion over the meaning of the word might actually make Beck's wild-eyed rants less incoherent. "Coup d'etat" is, after all, of French origins, and Beck probably hates the French enough to use their idioms incorrectly.
Nevertheless, Beck today told listeners of his radio show that President Obama is seizing power as part of a "coup." As the self-described "rodeo clown" insisted on the air, there is "a revolution going on, and it is coming." Beck believes "they" believe "they can get away with it quietly." He didn't identify who "they" are, but it's probably safe to assume it has something to do with ACORN. He doesn't like ACORN.
The "revolution" that "they" hope to launch may work, Beck said, because "they are so far ahead of us." He lamented, "Most of America doesn't have a clue as to what's going on." So true, so true.
Beck was kind enough to fill us in: "There is a stealing of America, and the way it is done, it has been done through the -- the guise of an election, but they lied to us the entire time. Some of us knew! Some of us we're shouting out, you were: 'This guy's a Marxist!' 'No, no, no, no, no, no. And they're gonna say, 'We did it democratically,' and they are going to grab power every way they can. And God help us in an emergency."
I'm still not quite sure what it is the administration has done that has Beck on the verge of hysteria. Chances are, he doesn't remember, either.

So now they are just going to pretend that Obama didn't actually win the election?
Whatever form it taks, it's apparent that Beck and his minions simply can't accept having a black man as a president. "Their" country just would never do that.

OH NOES! People voted for Democrats!

Damn those democratically elected leaders! What makes them feel they have the right to take power!
I mean I had a lot of problems with Bush, but I never said he wasn't legitimate. Questionable election aside, the rule of law is the rule of law. If only Mr. Beck could understand that.

As you marvel at the craziness of Mr. G. Beck, remember his condition is the direct consequence of wrestling with too many third-person pronouns that have no clear antecedents! Though he seemingly doesn't know it, an assult of too many "theys" leads one's intellect to yearn for that ambient trailor park feeling of trashiness! -Kevo

It isn't like Obama won by fiat of the Supreme Court or anything. Last I looked the President rolled to a decisive victory. The Democrats rolled right along with him.
What part of Democracy doesn't Glenn Beck like? Oh, I know, it is the losing part.
This country is armed to the teeth. Glenn is liable to get some poor citizens killed with all his revolution talk. What the heck, they will be American citizens so his Aussie boss won't pay any price.

Shorter Beck: HE's BLACK!!!!!
Beck's a damned stupid racist who can't stomach that a non-white male could become president. If Hillary won, we would be seeing the same thing.

What a genius Obama is. First he gets elected by a landslide, now he becomes the first elected leader to stage a coup against his own government. Wow.

Missed his meds did he? "They're coming to take me away, oh my". This delusional schizophrenic is clinically insane and it shows the mentality of Faux to exploit the mentally ill for their show just like the circus used to exploit deformed kids for show.
When "they" are us...the majority...it's called democracy and some tiny few loudmouthed members of the minority don't get to take over...and those responsible for bringing us our current disaster should just sit the fu*k down and STFU as Obama pulls us back from the brink of the republican Great Depression II and the "majority" takes our nation back from these insane goobers like Becky-boy.

Ron Byers above: "It isn't like Obama won by fiat of the Supreme Court or anything."
Nor did Joe Biden, in charge of vice presidential selection, select himself and then take over the administration.

This would be funny if it wasn't scary. I'm about to give up; let's just leave the country to the true fascists of the extreme right, move somewhere with a growing economy and guaranteed healthcare, and come back after they shoot each other up with assault weapons and have passed on due to a self-induced rapture.
Problem is they would probably take everyone else with them as they would hold on to the nukes...
Well at least they'll all end up in hell.
Do I sound crazy? Sign me up for a slot on Fox News Channel!

Nuts as he is, Beck is no longer funny. He is dangerous. The would-be Timothy McVeighs of this country pay attention to his McCarthyism and bring their assault rifles to town hall meetings. I'm not sure what can be done about his ravings, but we have to be vigilant.

Beck really lacks the passion when he isn't crying.

One thing that worries me is the notion that those on the right are the only people who are armed. One of my problems is that I know people in both camps. The righties (especially those who aren't already active participants in the shooting sports) are pretty open about buying guns in response to Obama's election, but a lot of progressives I know have quietly bought their own guns in response.
Little reported was the health care supporter who a couple of weeks ago showed up wearing a gun at one of the rallies. One day an opponent and a supporter are going to come together armed to the teeth and we are going to see a blood bath.
Beck should be investigated for promoting that kind of nightmare.

I am always amazed by the Right Wing's ability to accuse liberals of exactly what they themselves have done. This statement has little to do with Obama and everything to do with George Bush's administration.
The guise of an election? check!
Lying to us the entire time, check!
Some of us shouting out, "no, no, no?" Check!
Grabbing power every way they could? check!
Taking advantage of a national emergency? check!
I am so sick of these greedy, delusional goons. And what is with this fascist meme? These people are so ignorant and incapable of learning, they think communist, socialist and fascist are synonyms?

If we are going to stage a coup, then why the hell are we screwing around trying to get Republican votes in the Senate? Beck is just a political shock jock, who has to say loonier and loonier things to hold the attention of his ADD inflicted wing-nut audience

Yeah, I laugh too but this guy represents truly dangerous brownshirting (and shitting too.) He is promoted by a major "news" network, he is promoted by the VP candidate of the other major party in the last election - no, not just some nut on a street corner. Our nation is facing a true, deep sickness that we must face up to and defeat.

the verge of hysteria...really? don't look now, but beck is long there, acting out his hysteria in high hysterical fashion.

Yes, God help us in an emergency. Oh wait, now that we have semi-competant people in government, we won't need God alone to help us, unlike those poor saps in N'awlins who had only god to help them.

After reading ckelly's comment, I browsed YouTube for clips of "Glenn Beck cries on air". You're right; he really gets into it. The phrase, "I'm sorry, but I just love my country" seems to be a reliable inspiration for the waterworks. I note there are no real tears, though, and perhaps he's just faking it. In any case, he looks even stupider when he cries - he reminds me of the Dormouse from the Mad Hatter's Tea Party.

"...Beck today told listeners of his radio show that President Obama is seizing power as part of a "coup."..."
Did he already forget that Obama was inaugurated last January as POTUS and is already in POWER
Posted by: cwolf on August 31, 2009 at 9:56 PM | PERMALINK
Yes, God help us in an emergency, whether it be a Republican or Democratic POTUS. New bill before Congress: allowing the President to control the internet during a self-described (naturally) cyber-crisis.
Yes, the politicians love watching progressives and conservatives tear each other to pieces. It makes their primary job - the aggrandizement of power - that much easier.

P.S.
As an American Indian, Glenn Beck's ancestors already stole America from my ancestors.

Glenn Beck is just one of many that evidence the proof that somebody put something in the drinking water of the US back in the 50s and 60s, maybe the 70s, and didn't know what the side effects on some would be.
Now, if we could only convince him that the only safe thing to do is to drink his own urine.
Does any other nation give such madmen this type of platform?
Wondering.
Outside of N. Korea and Cambodia.
O.K. And Zimbabwe and Venezuela.
Let's define that as unelected commentators.

If that is the verge, I don't want to see full-fledged hysteria.
Posted by: stevenz on September 1, 2009 at 1:03 AM | PERMALINK
At the risk of taking Beck and his teabaggers seriously, perhaps there is something we could call Fox News Syndrome. Like Jerusalem Syndrome and Paris Syndrome, regular Fox News watchers may have been shocked by the very possibility of an Obama administration. What can possibly explain the "reality" of Democratic domination after years of watching Fox News' portrayals of the "real" America? It must be fairly jarring, no?
Posted by: hoipolloi on September 1, 2009 at 8:55 AM | PERMALINK
Here is hoping that the administration will do something truly worthy of rattling Beck. He needs something (real) to cry over. How about single payer passed under reconciliation? Now that would be a coup by any other name.
Posted by: Scott F. on September 1, 2009 at 9:04 AM | PERMALINK
I have to hand it to him. Until recently, I would have insisted that no one is doing more to discredit Conservatism (on both intellectual AND moral grounds) than Ann Coulter. Hats off to Beck for surging into the lead.

"I'm still not quite sure what it is the administration has done that has Beck on the verge of hysteria."
In June, I spoke with a customer at my wife's store and she was VERY UPSET with the destruction of the Constitution that the Obama Administration had done. She couldn't say what it was exactly, BUT SHE KNEW IT HAD BEEN DONE!
Very Scary to think that people actually believe that!

I hate to say it, but I have actually started watching the Glenn Beck show lately. It's the best sit-com on television. It's a riot watching someone actually lose their mind on television. He's about 3-4 weeks away from a rubber room!
