FOUND: GOP CAUCUS THEME SONG.... The "Party of No" theme has always been pretty descriptive when applied to congressional Republicans, but wouldn't it be even better if their governing philosophy could be put to music?
Groucho Marx first sang this in 1932, but it's certainly applicable eight decades later.
For those of you who can't watch clips from your work computers, here are the lyrics:
I don't know what they have to say,
It makes no difference anyway,
Whatever it is, I'm against it.
No matter what it is or who commenced it,
I'm against it.
Your proposition may be good,
But let's have one thing understood,
Whatever it is, I'm against it.
And even when you've changed it or condensed it,
I'm against it.
I'm opposed to it,
On general principle, I'm opposed to it.
For months before my son was born,
I used to yell from night to morn,
Whatever it is, I'm against it.
And I've kept yelling since I first commenced it,
I'm against it!
It might as well have been custom made for the Republican National Committee.

Should be sent to every Dem. and used over and over again. Love it. We in Canada are stunned by the sheer idiocy of the repubs.

Perfect. Please circulate to everyone you know!
Would be great as a commercial with real recent NO's interspersed..

It may be a nice song. But I'm against it.

Perfect!

and, of course, the Repugnant Party is absolutely perfect for Groucho to join.

I think that's Grassley in the middle with the painted-on mustache. And don't forget, the H stands for Huxley College. They're against that, too.

Not to brag or anything, but the Groucho fans among us have been saying this for months.
It would make an awesome ad.

Are you accusing the repubs of being Marxists?!!?

Yes, we have no meliorism
Talk about the party of no...
Did you read David Brooks yesterday? Bentham vs. Hume
Here is the nickle version: "Meliorism bad. Do noting good."
It was one of those insane columns Brooks dishes out periodically that make you think he has some sort of Rational/Irrational bipolar disease. Might we call such an illness Bobo's disease?

Koreyel (@11:02),
Babbling Brooks is never *fully* rational; even in his "best" columns there's always at least one tidbit which leaves you with your jaw hanging down to your navel in amazement. But he cleans up well and doesn't foam at the mouth, so he's able to fool some people most of the time.

I always thought of "Cool, cool, considerate men" from the musical 1776 as the Republican Congressional theme song.
"Come ye cool cool considerate set
We'll dance together to the same minuet
To the right, ever to the right
Never to the left, forever to the right
May our creed be never to exceed
Regulated speed, no matter what the need"

Yep! And Bill Moyers is another Marx Brothers fan--he used another clip from a MB movie in a piece on the economic meltdown.

I thought Randy Newman had landed the republican songwriter gig. His song Political Science must have been.à huge influnce om the last administrations foreign policy. Roll with the Punches sort of captures the republican attitude to health care reform.

Roadblock Republicans did a great animated version of this song starring a decidedly dainty Mitch McConnell and a supporting cast of other Senate Republic Party members.
It's great to see the original circulating, I hope more widely.

During the 2008 campaign I had a letter published in my local newspaper (Louisville) with the same quotes as they pertained to Mitch McConnell. They even put Groucho's picture in the paper!

If the Democrats don't roll this out, we'll have to use a clip from Duck Soup: "We're fighting for this woman's honor --- which is more than she ever did."

While you're at it, check out Duck Soup. Waaaay too many scenes are apropos of the last eight years. "Too late - that's old business already" could be the epitaph for our liberal media.

Let me just add that this is 55 seconds long, which would be PERFECT for an ad buy. Slap a title card on it, put a little bouncing-ball lyric crawl across the bottom, and leave two seconds for the legalese.
And you could use it ALL THE TIME.
Unfortunately, two problems: (1) some entity that probably doesn't want to make permanent political enemies owns the copyright, and (2) Groucho didn't do anything to deserve becoming the face of today's GOP.

For the record, Groucho was a Democrat. He even did an appeal for the Democratic Telethon back in the early 70s.

Love the Groucho tune, but might I also suggest this gem from They Might Be Giants:
No is no
No is always no
If they say no, it means a thousand times no
No plus no equals no
All nos lead to no no no
Finger pointing, eyebrows low
Mouth in the shape of the letter O
Pardon me -- No!
Excuse me -- No!
May I stay?
Can I go?
No, no, no
Do this -- No!
Don't do that -- No!
Sit, stay, roll over
No, no, no
Finger pointing, eyebrows low
Mouth in the shape of the letter O
Red means stop. Do not go.
No, no, no

The Ramones
From Road to Ruin
"I'm Against It"
Well I'm against it
I'm against it
Well I'm against it
I'm against it
I don't like politics
I don't like communists
I don't like games and fun
I don't like anyone
And I'm against...
I don't like Jesus freaks
I don't like circus geeks
I don't like summer and spring
I don't like anything
I don't like sex and drugs
I don't like waterbugs
I don't care about poverty
All I care about is me
And I'm against...
I don't like playing ping pong
I don't like the Viet Cong
I don't like Burger King
I don't like anything
And I'm against...
Well I'm against it
I'm against

Hasn't this song been mentioned in lefty blog comment threads -- if not those here -- for some time now?

Whether or not we use Groucho, I vote for using the Ramones song. It would be the best way to posthumously stick it to Johnny for being such a big old Republican schmuck.
