NRCC JUST CAN'T HELP ITSELF.... It's quite a classy bunch Republicans have hired to staff their House campaign committee.
Hitler hearts Pelosi? That seems to be a view the National Republican Congressional Committee [which brought you the put-Pelosi-in-her-place statement last week] seems to be endorsing, judging from what the committee posts on their Twitter account.
On Tuesday morning, as the Senate Finance Committee prepared to vote on the Baucus bill, someone at the NRCC posted a bizarre Tweet linking to an altered three-minute section of the 2004 Hitler biopic "Der Untergang" from the conservative site Moonbattery -- with a voice-over of the The Fuhrer ranting about how only Nancy Pelosi shares his vision of health care reform.
In the insane video clip, Hitler is seen ranting about how Pelosi is on his side, and how much he likes "socialized medicine." Hitler, in the video, concludes "Like Pelosi, I don't give a s**t about the American people."
The NRCC described the video as "funny," and encouraged folks to check it out.
The DCCC's Jennifer Crider responded, "House Republicans have gone way too far. The NRCC's despicable promotion of a video comparing Nancy Pelosi's effort to reform health care to America to Adolf Hitler's extermination of millions is a shocking new low that must be condemned."
The NRCC later backpedaled, pulling the endorsement and conceding the video was "in poor taste" NRCC spokesman John Randall, "I don't want anyone to think we're comparing Democrats to Nazis and to Hitler."
No, of course not. Why would anyone think that?

This is so deeply offensive.

I won't watch the NRCC's version of Hitler's rant, but I have to say that some of the other take-offs of the rant - particularly the one with Sarah Palin - really are quite funny.

Is there anything the Republicans can do to be shunned from polite society? I don't think so.

So, according to Randall, its fine if the NRCC compares Pelosi to Hitler so long as people don't "think" the NRCC is comparing Democrats to Hitler. His choice of words reveals that the NRCC did not have a problem with that type of attack save for the fact that they realized it would be poorly perceived. It must be liberating to operate in an ethics-free environment.

Of course, this is perhaps the most remixed film clip in history. It's even been used to rant against Comic Sans. The fact that the Republicans are both humor- and clueless explains their using it in this context, but they may have felt licenced by its ubiquity.

OT: Senate Finance committee approves their bill 14-9. Now on MSNBC, rethugs Kyl, Enzi and Grassley are speaking (still using scare tactics), and about 6 feet behind them is a man holding a sign saying "Single-Payer NOW!". Freaking hysterical! And way to go, unidentified man!

Typical liberals, accusing the NRCC of comparing Democrats to Nazis just because they're comparing Democrats to Nazis.

I continue to get the impression that Republicans really don't understand humor.
The immediate image that comes to mind is a group of white look-alikes in business suits emailing the link to one another while laughing like Beavis & Butthead, as if they had just discovered the funniest thing in the world. And they're all nodding in approval, under the delusion that they've FINALLY found the key to restoring the Republican Dynasty at the forefront of insult-based comedy. It's sad, really. Authoritarians really aren't very good at coping with a shrinking minority.

It's impossible for the shameless to, you know, feel shame of any kind. Any repercussions they suffer, in any context, to any degree of severity, are portrayed as badges of honor.
Here's something I don't understand, though. A lot of conservatives I've met (unfortunately) see "pissing off liberals" as the #1 indicator that something is worth doing. This is basically an admission that their political philosophy promotes things like kicking puppies and drowning kittens (things every single liberal I know would be pissed off by). Why are they proud of this sort of thing?

It's a well-known Historical Fact that Hitler was a Democrat and Jesus was a Republican.

Second this.
And the one about Sarah Palin is truly hilarious. The one about Oasis breaking up is good too. But I can expect that any attempts at humor by the NRCC will fall completely flat.

The Hitler-in-the-Bunker-with-a-goofy-translation-meme has been bouncing around the internet for years. Did this really go from "tired joke" to "deeply offensive" just because its the Republicans doing it now?

Repugnacans.
It's getting downright ridiculous to think that the Demoncrats are pushing us toward socialism simply because of a very weak and neutered public option in a piss ass health care "reform" effort.
My suggestion to the NRCC is to reject ALL things federal and push 100% for States' rights over anything else.
That's what they want.
The blurring of Pelosi-Nazism is actually quite reckless and only serves the repugnacans' base.
No elected official has any business equating the other party with Nazism. It's just not okay, Hitler was a freak and the less we refer to him the better.

And these are the same people who accused Nancy Pelosi of "calling American citizens Nazis" because she correctly stated that some of the health-care protesters were, in fact, comparing Obama to Hitler, and brandishing signs with Nazi symbols as part of the slur.

But a year from now, the Villagers will repeat the lie that MoveOn once aired an ad comparing Bush to Hitler, while forgetting entirely that the fucking National Republican Congressional Committee created this disgusting and vile piece of dogshit.

I opened another window to take a peek at the NRCC site and then came back here. When I returned to the NRCC site, there was nothing but a band of red at the top of the screen with an expanse of blank white nothing below. It wouldn't respond, appeared to be slowing everything else down and had to be removed by Task Manager.
How's that for a metaphor?

Another example of how the Republican party is spawning extremism, just like its hero Limbaugh spawned G. Beck. Way too much spawning going on these days! -Kevo

That's an internet meme where people take the clip from downfall and then add in their own subtitles and apparently the NRCC liked this one =/
Posted by: Matt on October 13, 2009 at 3:42 PM | PERMALINK
Actually, having just watched it, it isn't that bad. It in no way compares health care to the holocaust, and for a conservative effort it's pretty funny and not distinctly conservative.

But, the dems are not responding with any outrage! Someone is calling your family obscene names and trashing their reputation and you just shake your finger at them? Apparently there must be some truth to the portrayals or there would be a reaction.
Don't they have some substantive counter charges to lodge? Or, are they afraid that they are so vulnerable to similar charges as to be afraid to counter? "I won't snitch on you if you won't snitch on me."

Despicable! Putting it out there for viewing and then pulling it and saying, "Oh, we were just kidding". Keep it up please. Keep showing the American public how sleazy and slimy you really are. These are supposed to be grown ups but they demonstrate how utterly unqualified they are to govern or even be a part of the process.

So, why again did Obama win the Jewish vote so handily? Quite a mystery still.

... saying, "Oh, we were just kidding"
This is how Limbaugh defends every single sleazy, disgusting thing he's ever said. The fact that his fans completely excuse his obvious, serial cowardice isn't that surprising, though. They're perfectly comfortable with his lying, hypocrisy, drug abuse and racism.

The Hitler-in-the-Bunker-with-a-goofy-translation-meme was modestly amusing about the first million times (the one about Hillary losing the nomination wasn't bad). Once again the Republicans are out of date, out of ideas, and just plain not very funny.

So, why again did Obama win the Jewish vote so handily? Quite a mystery still.
The Republican explanation here is, of course, that they're smarter than the Jews and can see these things better.
They say the same things about African-Americans, too. They regularly say that the Democrats are the real racists, and that African-Americans shouldn't support them, and that their fortunes would be much better served if they cast their lot with the Republicans. Unfortunately, the vast majority of African-Americans support the Dems instead because they're too stupid to understand the Republican argument. ... Er... but it's the Democrats who are the actual racists. Not the Republicans who think black folks are too stupid to vote for them.
I have never understood this pants-on-head retarded argument, but then, I'm not a Republican. I still have to hear it from time to time, though.

Remember when the right wing media went nuts over the Hitler video uploaded to the MoveOn website, the video which MoveOn promptly removed?
MoveOn had NOTHING to do with the creation or promotion of the Hitler video.
And yet the right wing media STILL smears MoveOn for that video.
But, hey, Republicans First Rule: Rules are For Other People.
Republicans: Lawless, despicable, sociopaths.

The NRCC had to take this down after a while to appear to be disapproving of it. No matter, it will be forwarded and discussed and as such has served its purpose, carrying out the current GOP strategy:
1. Use apocalyptic rhetoric that exacerbates fear, bigotry and extremism among the uneducated and intolerant.
2. Counter any liberal criticism of your inflammatory calls for action by saying they can't take a joke.
3. Keep turning up the heat and act surprised when somebody finally heeds your calls for extreme action.
4. Be sure to maintain you were only speaking figuratively and you are being unfairly blamed when violence occurs.
5. Keep your celebrations behind closed doors.

One of the odd things behind this and other Hitler comparisons by the wingnuts is the idea that Nazism tightened its grip on Germany insiduously by slow imperceptible steps. 'First came health care, then came public education...and then the invasion of Poland and the Holocaust. ' It's as though they are trying to re-run the old right-wing 'creeping socialism' campaign as though that's what happened in Germany. But that is utter nonsense. Developments in the months and years after '33 were anything but imperceptible. Opposition parties were suppressed and opponents killed and imprisoned. There was the night of the long knives, Kristalnacht. Martin Niemoller's famous remark just doesn't cut it if instead of saying 'first they came for the communists, but I was not a communist...' one says 'first they provided health care for the uninsured, and then they regulated the banks (if only)'.

My favorite of the Der Untergang re-translations was the one after the Cowboys were upset by the Giants a couple years back.
And yea, Spike, et al. are correct - the Dems have plenty of actual things said and or done by the Republicans that they should be outraged about before getting so worked up about the latest incarnation of a freaking ancient meme.
