FRIDAY'S CAMPAIGN ROUND-UP....Today's installment of campaign-related news items that wouldn't generate a post of their own, but may be of interest to political observers.
* Who's leading in New Jersey's gubernatorial race? It depends on which poll you read. The New York Times has incumbent Gov. Jon Corzine (D) leading Chris Christie (R) by three (40% to 37%), while SurveyUSA has Christie up by one (40% to 39%), and Rasmussen has them tied at 38% each.
* How can we tell that Senate Majority Leader Harry Reid (D) is worried about re-election in Nevada next year? He's already running TV ads, including a bio spot long-term incumbents rarely find necessary.
* Yesterday, Delaware Attorney General Beau Biden (D) said he's thinking about running for the Senate next year. If he does, it'll be quite a match-up -- a new Research 2000 poll for Daily Kos shows Rep. Mike Castle (R) leading Biden by just one point, 46% to 45%, in a hypothetical general election contest.
* In Iowa, a new Research 2000 poll for Daily Kos shows Sen. Chuck Grassley (R) leading Christie Vilsack (D) in a hypothetical match-up, but the margin was more competitive than I expected -- 51% to 40%.
* On a related note, the same poll found a close gubernatorial race in Iowa next year. Former Gov. Terry Branstad (R) leads incumbent Gov. Chet Culver (D) by five, 48% to 43%.
* It looks like Sen. John Ensign's (R-Nev.) sex scandal is having quite an effect on his fundraising.
* House Ways and Means Committee Chairman Charlie Rangel (D-N.Y.) may face more than one primary challenger next year.
* Florida Republicans have finally found someone ready to take on Rep. Alan Grayson (D) next year. There's just one small problem: the GOP challenger lives 300 miles from the district.
* In California, Republican gubernatorial hopeful Meg Whitman has been embarrassed by her lack of a voting record. Looks like Republican Senate hopeful Carly Fiorina is in the same boat.
* And while the conventional wisdom suggests Sen. Blanche Lincoln (D) is in deep trouble in Arkansas next year, a new DSCC poll offers the incumbent some encouraging results.

How can we tell that Senate Majority Leader Harry Reid (D) is worried about re-election in Nevada next year?
He started doing his job?
And honestly, all of these Republicans leader? What the horse hockey is wrong with people. Short memories and brainless nit wits, the lot of us.

Hmm. The numbers on both races in Iowa aren't as bad as I expected them to be. I would LOVE to be able to get behind a viable opponent to Grassley. His antics during the health coverage reform debate have put me over the edge and I want that dishonest hack gone. He does not deserve the office he holds.

WHAT, no story on the BALLOON BOY? Listening to Ed Schultz throw a hissy fit because Arianna dared to ask why they were "still talking about it after the boy was found"...I wondered WHY they were talking about it for hours when they basically knew NOTHING (especially CNN)...if a hoax this guy surely knew the media's penchant for following the NEXT SHINY OBJECT that appears regardless of its merit. YEGODS, and we wonder why there are still justices who think that bi-racial children will be DOOMED!!! In his world...they would be!

I think that Whitman and Fiorina should come out and state the obvious truth.
They had better things to do with their time than to vote.
Of course, I believe that is true of everyone. No one reading this post has ever had their vote count in a race such as House or Senate seat.
You and 50 of your friends would not have made any difference in Florida in 2000 or Minnesota in 2008.

What kind of mugwumps live in Chuck Grassley's district? Seriously is the water ? Inbreeding? or don't they have them newfangled TEEVEES yet. Or maybe they only get the Fox Station if they do
Just askin'

I still wonder what the Republicans will do if they lose once of their leaders in the Senate.

I love how the GOP can't find anyone decent to run against Grayson. Are candidates that scared of the guy? Yo, Charlie Cook, you probably should have waited before making the race a "tossup," idiot.

OK, I'm laughing at Ensign. I suspect that potential donors think he might as well just go to the Bank of Mom and Dad again.
And Carly Fiorina? Unlike Meg Whitman, she didn't even run a corporation successfully. Her general diva-dom as part of the McCain campaign does not bode well for her political future. Meg was also a big washout in that campaign as well, but her incompetence and inability to get things done was at least quiet.

johnR,
I live in Grassley's "district", aka the state of Iowa. And yes, I have a tv, althought I don't use it much.

He's trying to play nice with progressive Dems vis-a-vis health reform. There was something on TPM DC about it as well as on Wash Independent.

Blanche Lincoln - the women who wouldn't vote for card check, and who hasn't sounded all that firm on health reform - that Blanche Lincoln? She's polling better than expected? Oh, how encouraging.
I don't live in Arkansas, but if I did, I'd be looking for a third party candidate. That might result in a republican getting elected, but I'd rather have a real republican than a fake democrat.

Umm, oops. "Woman". Thankfully there's only one of her.

Senate Majority Leader Harry Reid (D) is worried about re-election in Nevada next year... presumably because polls are indicating that a Democrat could win.

But Carly Fiorina does have a record!
The fact that it's a record of colossal failure probably isn't relevant (in whackjob Republican minds, anyway).
