SPEAKING OF 'DYING QUICKLY'.... Just two weeks ago, Rep. Alan Grayson (D-Fla.) generated widespread Republican outrage with a speech on the House floor about health care reform. "It's a very simple plan," Grayson said about the GOP agenda. "Don't get sick. That's what the Republicans have in mind. And if you get sick America, the Republican health care plan is this: die quickly."

GOP lawmakers were incensed. Rep. Jimmy Duncan (R-Tenn.) called Grayson's comments "about the most mean-spirited partisan statement that I've ever heard made on this floor." Rep. Tom Price (R-Ga.) immediately began work on a resolution condemning Grayson for his remarks.

Maybe Rep. Louie Gohmert (R-Texas) missed the story?

Speaking on the House floor last night, Rep. Louie Gohmert (R-TX) became the latest Republican lawmaker to play the "death card," suggesting that reform advocates would allow seniors to "die off more quickly":

"I was talking to a senior that I consider a very wise individual, and this weekend she said, 'You know what concerns me about the 500 billion in cuts to Medicare? Maybe not, but I can't help but think they know that as seniors we've been through World War II, we've seen the evils that lurk in this world, we have gained great wisdom from our years, and they're willing to let us die off more quickly so that we're not around to try to get our wisdom across to the young people of what is at risk by this government takeover.'"

Now, Gohmert has already proven himself to be ... how do I put this ... a rather dim lawmaker. About a week ago, during a speech that was supposed to be about "Don't Ask, Don't Tell," Gohmert seriously argued that expanding hate crimes protections would lead to a legalization of necrophilia, pedophilia, and bestiality. He then compared those who disagree with him to Nazis.

But this speech about Democrats wanting to kill off senior citizens is just blisteringly dumb, especially after Republicans just threw a fit about Grayson.

For what it's worth, a spokesperson for the NRCC argued today that Gohmert's remarks weren't that bad, because he was simply "relaying a concern of his constituent to his colleagues."

For goodness sakes. Do you suppose Gohmert was relaying the comments because he disagreed with them? Is he prepared to denounce the absurd concerns of his constituent?

Absolutely. It was informational only. Like the narrator that comes on at the end of teevee commercials for state lotteries to say that the message was for informational purposes only and not intended to encourage anyone to blow the grocery money on lottery tickets.

Same kinda thing.

Gohmert said “this socialist health care … is going to absolutely kill senior citizens. They’ll put them on lists and force them to die early.”

In May, House floor: "We are going to borrow more money from the Chinese to possibly give them money back to create habitats for wild dogs and cats that are rare. There is no assurance that if we did that we wouldn't end up with moo goo dog pan or moo goo cat pan."

Wow. He's a real asshole. But he's not stupid, he knows what he is doing. He's just appealing to all the other dumb assholes in the US, and especially in Texas.

The Republicans to whom this tool is appealing won't notice any problem because:
a) they have the memory capacity of a amoeba and/or
b) They perceive what they want to, and what they want is what Rush, Glenn, Sean, and BillO tell them to believe.

Logical refutation of Wingnut "thinking" is the equivalent of arguing with a psychotic person. It's a no-win situation.

the stupid asshole sure has the name fer it, -- i think he ought to "go-meurte" himself.

Yikes! I'm stuck back on the age = wisdom part. Not a lot of evidence for that among some of the elder "statesmen" in Congress.

they're willing to let us die off more quickly so that we're not around to try to get our wisdom across to the young people of what is at risk by this government takeover.

Wait. The plan, as described, is:
1) Pass health care reform so we can
2) Kill off the old people and then
3) They won't be able to warn anyone about passing health care reform.

There's a flaw in the plan, but I can't quite put my finger on it.

Fainting couch!! Somebody get me a fainting couch!! Oh, the vapours!! Can you BELIEVE the kind of talk that comes out of this fould Rethuglican's mouth!! We need to have a vote on the House floor TODAY!! For shame, sir!!! That is not the way good politicians behave.

nice attempt by Gohmert for a double-whammy. It's not just that health care will kill old people. It's that the old people offer so much wisdom to impart that Dems choose to ignore. We're a-holes coming AND going.

I've told jokes with that punchline. This is just ridiculous.

Oh, Gohmert is an idiot, there's no question about it. And we can thank Tom DeLay for his presence in the House, because Gohmert's district was created thanks to DeLay's redisctricting scheme. He is the ideal DeLay GOP foot soldier in the house; loud, dumb and easy to control.

I happen to know a lot of people who'd been around during WWII -- it's my parents' and my husband's generation. What wisdom they had to impart had been imparted long ago. For the past 10 yrs or so, they've been having hard time remembering what they'd had for breakfast and when WWII happened. And the wisdom most of them are imparting now has to do with the beneficial effects of Metamucil and prunes. We don't want to cut their lives short and we cherish them. But *not* for their wisdom.

"he was simply "relaying a concern of his constituent to his colleagues.""

If the Republicans would accept that as a principle of speech, then the Democrats would really have fun.

Wait, Republicans ... principle ... same sentence... oops, sorry.
