CHENEY BITES THE HAND THAT FEEDS.... Liz Cheney's new political outfit, ironically named "Keep America Safe," got to work this week, promising to rally opposition to the Obama administration's effective national security policies while promoting the painful failures of the Bush/Cheney era.

The group's first project? A new web ad blasting MSNBC.

A source sends over a new Web ad just produced by Ms. Cheney's group, which is devoted to making the case that Obama's reversal of Bush policies is radical and dangerous. The ad bashes Keith Olbermann and Chris Matthews as "afraid" to debate her on the "substance" of national security policy:

The ad airs footage of Olbermann, Matthews, and Ed Schultz mocking the recent announcement of her group, and concludes: "Why don't they want to talk substance? Why are they panicked? Why don't they want to debate the issues?"

The implication being, of course, that the MSNBC gang is running scared from Ms. Cheney. If memory serves, though, Ms. Cheney has repeatedly been granted a platform on ... MSNBC, again and again and again, to defend her pop's legacy and champion policies that don't even exist anymore.

Looking forward to the lily-livered liberal network crew's response to this one. Maybe they'll invite her on again a bunch more times to discuss her contempt for them.

Earlier this year, Liz Cheney spent so much time on the cable news networks, I think she had her mail forwarded to the green rooms on N. Capitol. At one point, the "liberal media" had the former State Department official on 22 times in 24 days. Not only were many of these appearances on MSNBC, but when people like me started complaining about the news networks turning Cheney into a right-wing celebrity, Liz Cheney's biggest defender was ... MSNBC.

And now Cheney wants to turn the network into a punching bag?

Also, I couldn't help but notice that Liz Cheney's ad targets Olbermann, Matthews, and Schultz, but seems to have left out one high-profile MSNBC host: Rachel Maddow. Indeed, Rachel has invited Liz Cheney onto her show many, many times, and yet, Cheney has declined every opportunity.

To borrow a phrase, why doesn't Liz Cheney want to talk substance? Why doesn't she want to debate the issues?

The Cheneys, as a family, are poisonous vipers, never to be trusted, and well versed in the use of innuendo, distortion, lies, and vituperation. Who came first? Roger Ailes, Lee Atwater, or Dick & Lynn Cheney? Now we have to deal with their spawn. They are, all of them, repulsive, and beyond redemption.

Cable news, all of it, is nothing more nor less than show biz. They are the performers and we are the audience.

Like sideshow barkers, anything any of thme say about damn near anything is intended for one purpose and one purpose only, getting us to enter their tent see the show.

Ha. Rachel Maddow eats these people alive and smiles as she cleans her teeth with their bones. Its almost too bad that Republicans recognize it.

Why is Liz afraid of Rachael? Could it be she can't play the blonde being picked on by big mean men? Or is she afraid, rightly so, that Maddow would tear her a new one without any gentlemanly restraint? God, I'd love to see that pairing!

The entire Cheney family is nothing but a bit, giant, steaming pile of pig shit who are, in actual reality, the SERVANTS OF LUCIFER HIMSELF.

Liz Cheney won't appear on the same set with a smart, articulate, ethical woman because then the comparison/contrast would be stark.

Given that Matthews, Schultz and Olbermann just get into back-and-forth (Matthews with the least substance and greatest likelihood of agreeing with the bimbo), while Rachel brings the sharp knives and the cleaver to the conversation, and draws blood (as witness what she's done the past two weeks to rightwing dickwads), no wonder the Bimbette of Belsen wants to stay well away.

Liz Cheney wants it both ways: she wants to be this big new mover-and-shaker in the conservative movement and Republican Party, yet at the same time she hides behind her father. I really do believe she doesn't want her feet held to the fire by another woman. She'd lose the daddy's little girl angle of her routine.

"Indeed, Rachel has invited Liz Cheney onto her show many, many times, and yet, Cheney has declined every opportunity."

It is beneath the dignity of the former Deputy Underassistant SubSecretary of State for Stuff to appear on a show with someone for whom an education in the GOOD Ol' USA wasn't good enough.

Someone who spends more time reading books than getting her hair done.

Someone who might remind the base of that person we don't talk about.

Jim, I'm a torturer not a doctor.

Benen: Rachel has invited Liz Cheney onto her show many, many times, and yet, Cheney has declined every opportunity.
The reason why Liz eschews Rachel goes to the root of Cheney's personality. She is a torturer; and, she is unapologetic about being a torturer. The will to torture does not grow out of one's philosophy. Rather one's philosophical outlooks grow out of the will to torture.

Everything Liz Cheney says and does is built upon a personality that accepts torture as a starting point. It is who she is. She knows Rachel understands this and the conversation will be dominated by it. In fact, all conversations with Liz Cheney should always be dominated by the fact that she likes to torture people.

[Torturers only pretend that torture is their last reluctant choice, but that's another conversation entrirely...]

In reality, Lizardbreath is nothing but a shill/frontperson for Kristol and the other nattering nabobs of neo-conservatism. Give me a Cheney-Kristol vs. Maddow-Olberman showdown. That would produce enough raw power to keep the east coast lit for a decade! RM-KO by 7 1/2.

Aggressively stupid. That's Liz Cheney and the GOP.

One predictable side effect of being a belligerent idiot is that people won't want to engage you. But MSNBC does engage; the media generally pays lots of attention. And so Liz's gambit will probably work: she'll get two dozen more appearances. All wasted, since she doesn't discuss issues (regurgitating daddy's well-refuted falsehoods and a few new ones doesn't count).

"And now Cheney wants to turn the network into a punching bag?"

Sure. Why not? Like professional wrestling, both sides need the other, and work together to stage their *fight*.

MSNBC and Cheney can gin up a controversy and confrontation, like Stewart taking on Kramer, and there's face time and high ratings for all.

Given the tone of this site (still one of the better politics sites) I can't believe that Mr. Benen is naive to the strategy. He sells outrage and controversy as much as anyone.

Well, she's thrown down the gauntlet and Keith and Rachel should pick it up and beat her senseless with it.

Every day, they should invite her on to the show and report every time she has declined. Then, if she is stupid enough to accept, rip her mercilessly with the facts.

Who cares what Liz Cheney thinks? Why, oh why, can't we have a competent mass media? She has had her 15 minutes. Her "ideas" have been more than adequately demonstrated to be crap - when they are not actually criminal. Enough already, aren't there some actual Republican policy makers whose ideas ... on nevermind.
