QUOTE OF THE DAY.... George W. Bush was in New Delhi, India, over the weekend, and was asked about the al Qaeda leader behind the 9/11 attacks.
Asked whether al-Qaida chief Osama bin Laden could be alive, Bush said "I guess he is not dead."
He, however, noted that Laden is hiding and "not leading victory parades" or "espousing his cause" on TV.
From time to time, bin Laden does pop up with a new recording, espouses his views, so I'm not sure if the former president is quite right about that.
But it's the "I guess he is not dead" line that stands out.
In 2001, Bush vowed to get Osama bin Laden "dead or alive." In 2002, Bush reversed course, explaining, "I truly am not that concerned about him."
And in 2009, he's settled on, "I guess he is not dead." Bush has quite a way with words, doesn't he?

Even though it's hard to know just what woulda happened - GWB lurching over to invade Iraq just when we had AQ on the ropes at least in Afghanistan and close to nabbing Bin Laden, must rank as one of the most wasteful and destructive blunders of our age. It meant hundreds of billions more spent and with decreased long-term security.

I can't believe this man got elected to the highest office in the land. We have got to put more money into education !!!!

Darsan
You realize that GWB has degrees from Harvard and Yale. He has about the best education money can buy.

Just goes to show, there's a little Bin Laden in all of us. And the Bush administration wouldn't rest until we were all in Guantanamo.

There are lots of people who manage to "graduate" from these institutions with no critical thinking skills intact

Bush then went on to say he would take no further questions since he was really just there for a sandwich, but he was curious why it took so damn long to get to the new deli.

I along with Mr Bush and millions of Americans wait for that son of a bitch to stick his head up one to many times!

doubtful--HILARIOUS!!!
Just one more example of how Bush and the GOP insists on accountability. For everyone else.

Bush was always a cipher, a convenient name that a motley collection of plutocrats, theocrats and war profiteers used to come to power and enrich themselves. It's pointless to hate George W. Bush because he was always just a front.

Now that he is not president, he doesn't have to pretend to care.

The line that caught my eye was "He expressed confidence that Laden will be brought to justice which 'he deserves to be'"
He doesn't deserve to be brought to justice today? He didn't deserve to be brought to justice on September 12, 2001, or after the USS Cole attack, or even earlier?

Pretty sure Darsan was suggesting that the general electorate could use a little more education.

Mr. Benen said: "From time to time, bin Laden does pop up with a new recording, espouses his views
Do you really believe that? Perhaps a little skepticism of claims by our government, military and intelligence services is warranted.

How does an admitted and proud C student with a questionable military record get into Harvard B school? Of course, Bush put his Business Schools skills to good use as he promptly bankrupted 3 oil companies - the first man in history who was unable to find oil in TX.

Just like the charges of cocaine use, the drunken driver arrest, and his National Guard records, bin Laden is someone (or something) good ol'George just wishes would go away. Too bad his pappy and his friends can't make the latter go away, even if they may have helped facilitate the latter three disappearances! -Kevo

Darsan might not have been talking about Bush's education, but rather the lack of education of the idiots who elected him to two terms. In that regard, I wholeheartedly agree.

Can't say for sure, but I'd imagine being Ambassador Bush's son didn't hurt.

Ironically the only people George Bush has motivated with his rhetoric seems to be al Qaeda.

The part that sticks out for me is the line that bin Laden is "not leading victory parades". In what universe was that ever conceivably a possibility that was averted, presumably by Bush himself? WTF.
Like when gun sales spiked after 9/11, the only thing that prevented the lower 48 being becoming absorbed into a global caliphate.

And who exactly IS leading a victory parade these days? The country that still has its military mired in two wars?

Dear Ron,
I was referring to the general voting population.

Judging by what the a shitload of Harvard B school grads have done to the world's economy, I'd say Bush like just one more chip off the old block.

regarding uncurious george's ivy degrees, as dorothy parker said, "you can lead a whore to vassar, but you can't make her think."
