TUESDAY'S CAMPAIGN ROUND-UP....Today's installment of campaign-related news items that wouldn't generate a post of their own, but may be of interest to political observers.

* In the last batch of polls in New Jersey's gubernatorial race, SurveyUSA has Chris Christie (R) leading Gov. Jon Corzine (D) by three (45% to 42%); Democracy Corps has Corzine leading Christie by four (41% to 37%); and Monmouth has Corzine up by two (43% to 41%).

* In New York's 23rd, Rush Limbaugh said Republican Dede Scozzafava is "guilty of widespread bestiality. She has screwed every RINO in the country." Bill Owens denounced the attack; Doug Hoffman didn't.

* Hoffman not only doesn't live in the district he hopes to represent, but 95% of his contributions have come from outside New York's 23rd. I don't think I've ever heard of that kind of ratio for a House candidate.

* In Illinois, former state Attorney General Jim Ryan (R) is joining a crowded Republican gubernatorial field. Jim Ryan is not related to former Illinois Gov. George Ryan (R), who is now a convicted felon.

* Speaking of Illinois, state Treasurer and U.S. Senate candidate Alexi Giannoulias (D) has a new poll showing him leading Rep. Mark Kirk (R-Ill.) by three points, 46% to 43%, in a hypothetical match-up.

* A new University of Texas/Texas Tribune Poll shows Texas Gov. Rick Perry leading Sen. Kay Bailey Hutchison in their Republican gubernatorial primary, 42% to 30%. The same poll shows no favorite among Texas Democrats.

* And in 2012, right-wing Rep. Steve King (R) of Iowa hasn't ruled out a presidential bid. "[W]e'll see what happens, but I'm making no plans to run for president," King told the NBC affiliated in Des Moines. "I didn't make any plans to run for Congress either, and so -- I've long surpassed my personal aspirations, and I just count it as a blessing to be able to engage in this debate."

King for President. awesome. But he has to promise to take the wingnut witch of the north with him as a VP candidate.

You mean Bachmann or Palin?

In New York's 23rd, Rush Limbaugh said Republican Dede Scozzafava is "guilty of widespread bestiality. She has screwed every RINO in the country." Bill Owens denounced the attack; Doug Hoffman didn't.

Coming from Rush "Third World Sex Tourist" Limbaugh, the comment is doubly laughable.

ArkPanda, I meant Bachmann. Palin would be entertaining as well, but I assume she wouldn't settle for a mere VP slot again.

boy oh boy, i always look forward to this roundup of teh stoopid every day...

but how about some reforms:
same day voter registration
election day as holiday
public campaign funding
fair voting rights policy for felons (after serving their sentences)
paper trails for all voting machines and gizmos

"I didn't make any plans to run for Congress either, and so -- I've long surpassed my personal aspirations, and I just count it as a blessing to be able to engage in this debate."

Mr. King is the poster child for the Peter Principle... on crack.

Regardless of how much of a wingnut he is, if the people in NY23 elect someone who doesn't live in their district, gets 95% of his funding from out of the district, and displays a willful and arrogant ignorance of the district's political issues, they should seek professional help.

A new University of Texas/Texas Tribune Poll shows Texas Gov. Rick Perry leading Sen. Kay Bailey Hutchison in their Republican gubernatorial primary, 42% to 30%. The same poll shows no favorite among Texas Democrats.

The same poll also found that Texas Democrats showed no particular preference between getting smallpox and ebola.

I guess the next Republican primary will be to see how much one candidate can out crazy another. This will make Romney appear very normal. Tpaw was on MJ playing to the crazies this morning.

* Speaking of Illinois, state Treasurer and U.S. Senate candidate Alexi Giannoulias (D) has a new poll showing him leading Rep. Mark Kirk (R-Ill.) by three points, 46% to 43%, in a hypothetical match-up.

Funding might also become a problem for Kirk. This paragraph from an article in The Note indicates they'll be going full speed ahead with the current purge. Referring to Club for Growth president Chris "The Count" Chocola, the article reads:

Chocola said other candidates could also come under scrutiny from the right. Rep. Mark Kirk, R-Ill., who’s running for the Senate next year, is “probably not” someone the club would support, he said.

Of course, the lack of a seal of approval from the Club for Growth could make Kirk more appealing to moderate conservatives, of which Illinois still has a few.

nor is jim ryan related to jack ryan, the Ry who had to withdraw from the senate race in '04 because he waanting to pimp his actress wife (7 of 9) at sex clubs, thus clearing the way for obama's landslide victory over alan keyes.

jim ryan is still a right-wing jerk, tho.

Check out Jon Stewart's take on Doug Hoffman on last night's Daily Show. The Republicans have found yet another dim-witted star. Now, how dim do the people of NY-23 have to be to vote for the guy?

Posted by: withay on November 3, 2009 at 1:32 PM | PERMALINK

"I've long surpassed my personal aspirations, and I just count it as a blessing to be able to engage in this debate."

Let's face it, Rep. King, you surpass expectations when you manage to put the correct limb in each trouser leg every morning.

one more jim ryan note: the guy is a really good prosecutor. as state's attorney in a suburban chicago county, he managed to convice the wrong guys for a brutal rape and murder of a 9 year old girl. not once, but two or three times. the case kept being overturned, and he kept retrying it.
just recently, the guy who'd been confessing to it from his jail cell (all while ryan was pursuing the other guys) was finally allowed to confess in court.
jim ryan's legal acumen (and pig-headedness)should be an issue here -- if not in the primary, then certainly in the general.

Withay asked:

Now, how dim do the people of NY-23 have to be to vote for the guy?

Kidding aside, the vote-for-me-to-stick-it-to-Washington campaign theme has been a winner since, well, forever. Appealing to voter disaffection is a sound strategy for winning elections; for actually governing, not so much.

Denouncing bestiality? In the 23rd district? Who are we kidding, that would be political suicide. How else are young men supposed to keep warm on those cold winter nights, with 3 feet of snow on the ground?

Rush does seem to have a fascination with things anal, let alone bestiality. The election in NY-23 is ready made for today's credulous, lazy, and tabloid-prone media. The Republican purge, as they out crazy themselves, will put the blogosphere, cable news, and the pundits in a permanent state of orgasm. When it comes to political discourse in this country there seems to be no bottom.

Control of campaign finance is difficult even when there are regulations, but for 95% of Hoffman's money to come from outside his district defines dysfunctional. If all of these contentious races are nationalized, and driven by ideologues, we have lost completely any semblance of representative government.

As an Illinois voter, I am pleased to see Jim Ryan running for Gov. I'd never vote for him, but his candidacy might lead to some good, hot pictures of his hot ex-wifey, Jeri Ryan, being published.

Jeri was '7-of-9' on "Star Trek: Voyager", and is one of the hottest little things to show up on TV since Emma Peal. She put the "cat" in "cat suit", and lead in my pencil every time. She divorced Jimbo when he wanted to have live sex with her in public in a live sex club. What a moron! If she divorced him for that, what kind of a bonehead would impose that on a woman?

Posted by: POed Lib on November 3, 2009 at 5:18 PM | PERMALINK

POed, wrong Ryan.

You're thinking of Jack Ryan, the Wall Street millionaire cum inner-city teacher cum disgraced would-be politician.

Jim Ryan was State's Atty for DuPage Co before becoming AG and then running against Blago for gov. While I would never vote for him, I'd also never make fun of his family, which has seen more than it's share of horrible tragedies.

Re: the IL Gov race.

Some of you guys are dumb as rocks. You have been corrected.

Why don't you try to avoid misinforming about subjects you know nothing about. Instead, read some news and research the subjects before you share your misinformation. And of course you have an enabler media organization hoping that you will click an ad in the process so they can make a few bucks.

This is the downside of the internet. Too many people spending too much time posting wrongful information about issues they know nothing about - instead of reading the news.

This is the dumbing down of America. Like Babylon. You would rather spread misinformation rather than checking the facts beforehand.

Shut up already and put your time to better use.
