WEDNESDAY'S CAMPAIGN ROUND-UP....Today's installment of campaign-related news items that wouldn't generate a post of their own, but may be of interest to political observers.

* In Florida, Gov. Charlie Crist (R) has taken a pounding for weeks from his Senate primary rival, former state House Speaker Marco Rubio (R). National Journal reports that Crist is now poised to start punching back. The governor's campaign manager said Rubio "has had five to six months of the ability to go around and say whatever he'd like, and that's now changing."

* A new survey (pdf) from Public Policy Polling shows a very competitive Senate contest in Missouri, one of next year's most closely watched races. The poll shows Rep. Roy Blunt (R) with a large lead over his primary opponent, but Blunt currently trails Missouri Secretary of State Robin Carnahan by the narrowest of margins, 43% to 42%.

* New York Attorney General Andrew Cuomo (D) has not officially launched a gubernatorial campaign yet, but he and his team have reportedly begun looking at possible running mates. On the list is New York City Comptroller Bill Thompson, who recently looked quite strong in a narrow defeat against NYC Mayor Michael Bloomberg.

* Virginia Gov. and DNC Chairman Tim Kaine spent some time this week talking about Creigh Deeds (D) getting trounced in this year's gubernatorial race. Kaine believes Deeds would have fared far better if he'd motivated the Democratic base and stuck closer to President Obama.

* Next year's gubernatorial race in Kansas may be an open-seat contest, but Sen. Sam Brownback (R) looks so strong, he's spent the last several months running unopposed. Tom Wiggans (D), a Kansas business leader, announced yesterday that he'll take on Brownback. It will be Wiggans' first attempt at elected office, and he will likely face no opposition for the Democratic nomination.

* Don't be too surprised if former HHS Secretary and Gov. Tommy Thompson (R) runs against Sen. Russ Feingold (D) next year in Wisconsin.

* In Connecticut, former wrestling executive Linda McMahon's (R) Senate campaign continues to struggle in being taken seriously. A former employee is now blasting McMahon for, among other things, failing to provide health care and pensions for her wrestlers.

Can we please just blame the whole Virginia mess on Terry McAuliffe? No way that Deeds would have been the Dem nominee if McAuliffe hadn't injected himself and his ego into the race.

...failing to provide health care and pensions for her wrestlers.
The Repubs play faux populism, but don't really want to take care of the "little" people ...

To be fair, it's hard enough finding insurance without having to obtain a policy that covers people who have salt thrown in their faces and are hit with folding chairs on a regular basis.

Russ Feingold is one of the only honorable members of the Senate left. GFL there Tommy boy! I'd send Feingold my second to last dime to kick your stupid ass back to the Bronze Age, not that as a Republican you don't already dogmatically exist in it.

Seriously, that is like the NFL, NBA, or MLB not providing health care. They get hurt as ofter as I get a haircut and I have a hard time believing wrestlers are paying cash for all their services ?

And no pensions, the McMahons are filthy rich and they aren't taking care of their own, how pathetic.

Duh. Sometimes, I think it's better that DINOs like Deeds don't win elections and further tarnish the Dem brand.

"Don't be too surprised if former HHS Secretary and Gov. Tommy Thompson (R) runs against Sen. Russ Feingold (D) next year in Wisconsin."

Bring it.

For what it's worth, Tommy Thompson's answer in the J-S article ("I'm looking at Senate, I'm looking at Governor, I'm looking at mayor of Elroy") is the same stock answer he's been giving for years to folks who see him as the best hope for beating whatever Democrat the Republicans are trying to beat that year.

Jim Klauser who was Tommy's chief lieutenant is backing Scott Walker (after previously encouraging former Congressman Mark Neumann to run) which is a pretty good indication to me that Tommy will stay on the sidelines.

If there are a couple of rounds of polling showing Milwaukee Mayor Tom Barrett walloping Milwaukee Co. Exec. Walker that might change, but I don't expect that to happen. I think it will be close.

I just heard a hard-hitting ad against Roy Blunt this morning in Missouri, about how he's taken money from oil producers and taken their side against the needs of hard-strapped Missourians. He may be fairly bloodied before he goes up against Carnahan, who, along with her family, is well-respected around here.

To what extent is Tommy Thompson kissing Sarah Palin's ass?

The big stars of the WWE get paid alot of money, but once their usefullness is over they're out and end up scrounging for what they can get. It's an ugly business.

And Linda McMahon might want to explain the countless deaths among wrestlers and her company's blase attitude towards steroid abuse.

Tommy Thompson is a moderate Republican who knows how to talk a good conservative game and spend a lot of money while faking a balanced budget as governor. If he were anyone else, the reactionaries and tea-partiers would be screaming for his scalp rather than begging him to run. Art's right, it's not going to happen.

Gee, so Tim Kaine now understands what was commonly agreed to have handed the Virginia governorship to a Republican.

So where the hell was Tim Kaine at any point during Deeds campaign to put it on the right track? Nowhere.

Gosh, why do I suspect that Rahm Emmanuel is responsible for Kaine being appointed head of the DNC?

FAIL.

"In Connecticut, former wrestling executive Linda McMahon's (R)"

She'll at least get the redneck vote.
