HAPPY THANKSGIVING.... Just a quick housekeeping note for readers checking in today. I'll be around, and will check in if something important comes up, but I don't expect to have much in the way of content today. I'll be back tomorrow morning.

Also, in light of the holiday, I thought I'd take a moment to share my thanks to all of you. I appreciate your interest, support, and encouragement, and wish you a very Happy Thanksgiving.

As for the news of the day, the White House issued President Obama's weekly address this morning, pointing to what will hopefully be a better year ahead.

Thank you Steve for all you do and enjoy your Thanksgiving. Thank you President Obama for speaking reality and speaking to us in an articulate adult manner.

Happy Turkey, Steve. Remember - if Ben Franklin had his way, we would all be eating Bald Eagles!

Have a great Thanksgiving, Steve.

I, for one, am extremely thankful that you and Washington Monthly exist to provide me with a dose of daily reality in the context of the larger insanity that is Washington, D.C.

Get some well-deserved rest. We're all going to need it in the months ahead.

I suppose its useless to compare apples to oranges . This despite the deep satisfaction received from the alpha bet soup of wanna be zhen mystiks . From the endless stables of right wing bozo's , to their hearts desire , all the lovely fear and pain .
I know I have become more expert appreciating the masters of that grubby art reading this blog .
I wish you and yours the best . You give so much good work for such a long while , THANKS !

Happy T-Day Mr. Benen. Thanks for all your hard work and dedication to sifting through mountains of info to help protect your readers from the barrage of baloney catapulted upon us daily.

All snark aside, Steve, you deserve some kind of new Pulitzer, a six figure salary to run either major political party (you could straighten out both of them) and we indeed live in the greatest nost wonderfulest grandest country in the whole wide world of countries all of which are made out of ponies -- oops, how do you make it stop?

Happy Thanksgiving Steve and all the political animalistes...

Best to all here....but what about that most important of stories, that the Today Show saw fit to spend 15 minutes on this morning , fly experts in from all over the country to comment. Why... why... someone crashed the state dinner . Oh the shame, oh the embarrassment.. and what if, just what if they had been terrists. BTW -it's all Obama's fault Infotainment at it's best.

Eat turkey and die, you layabout.

Thanks, Steve! Not quite sure how you do what you do, so consistently, but I'm grateful. Eat pie.

A couple of "Virginia Socialites" managed to sneak past the Secret Service into the President's State Dinner.

They've posted pictures of themselves with the Vice President and the Chief of Staff on their facebook page.

The spokesman for the Secret Services is emphasizing that the couple had to pass through metal detectors.

Makes me nervous.

Thank you so much, Steve, for doing what you do. Over the last months, I've come to use your posts as a daily - sometimes hourly - check-in point, or often a jumping-off point for both what to explore further (via your links), and succinct analysis of the crazy tangle of politics surrounding us. What a breath of fresh air you are! It's not always happy news, but it's ALWAYS interesting.

Hope you stuff your self silly with delicious delectables, and see you tomorrow!

Thank you so much for all you do, Steve. I have been a daily reader for years...jeez...for probably almost as long as you've been blogging.

Happy day to you and yours.

Thank you Steve for all your good work this year. You deserve a day off!

From all accounts, the party-crashers were socialite wannabes, hoping to get on reality TV. Why is it no surprise to learn that whenever someone does something really tacky, they're aiming for their 15 minutes on reality TV? Balloon boys, party crashers at the White House -- it's turning us into a nation of boorish exhibitionists.

Shame on me for even even sneaking a peek at this site today. And good for Steve that he has the good sense to take a well deserved break.

There is an article on Huffington Post this morning titled "10 Fattest Countries In The World". The USA only managed a paltry ranking of third place. Now go stuff your faces and help make us #1.

Happy Thanksgiving to you and the Mrs., Steve. I'm still here though not commenting much.

Americans have much to be thankful for, even with a Kenyan as president, seniors facing death panels, and the First and Second Amendments under assault.

Happy Thanksgiving, everyone.

As the bird cooks and the time for making gravy approaches, It's hard to believe that the news cycle seems stuck on the two turkey socialites who circumvented the White House security apparatus.

Yeah, it gains them fame, but it leaves a bitter after=taste for those who had to pull off the event.

Have a great turkey/(tofu for veggies) feast everyone.

A toast to Steve and all his reality-based posts!

If you fail at republican starlight , moonlight socialite reality TV is the next logical step . Pest extermination , dancing pests , Texas deluxe Tea secession , have less appeal to your ordinary curious climber .

I give thanks today for Americans mostly turning from Rube-centered to reality-based politics.

I believe that Steve & the rest of Left Blogostan has greatly contributed to this turn. Sites like Political Animal, TPM, Daily Kos, FireDogLake and many more have given a public voice to to the intelligent Left. So I give thanks for the Internet, Steve B. (the hardest working blogger in the world), Steve's savvy & smart commenters, and the good life here in America.

Happy Thanksgiving to all!
