INHOFE WASTES A TRANSATLANTIC TRIP.... In September, Sen. Jim Inhofe (R-Okla.) announced that he would travel to Copenhagen for the international climate change talks, for the purpose of undermining the Obama administration's position. It's not particularly common for American elected officials to travel abroad to sabotage the position of the United States government, but Inhofe is ... what's the word ... special.
His plan was fairly straightforward -- U.S. officials would assure world leaders that America is ready to act to combat global warming, and intends to pass legislation to reduce emissions. Inhofe, the Senate's leading opponent of science, reason, and evidence, set out to explain to foreign governments that U.S. officials are not to be believed, in part because he would personally make U.S. policymaking on climate change impossible.
So, was his trip successful? Not so much.
Sen. Jim Inhofe flew across the Atlantic and -- on little sleep -- braved the snow, the cold and the dark to deliver his skeptical message at the international climate conference.
What he found when he got here: a few aides and a single reporter.
"I think he's going to be a little disappointed," one of his aides remarked.
Inhofe scheduled a brief visit to Copenhagen -- arrive, spread nonsense, fly back -- but his stay was poorly timed. When the right-wing Oklahoman got there, it was early morning, and no one was around. He was able to arrange zero meetings, met no foreign officials, and had no discussions with U.S. negotiators.
Eventually, Inhofe aides were able to corral some journalists into attending a hastily-arranged media availability, where the strange senator proceeded to share his belief that the United Nations came up with global warming as an elaborate hoax, and only the "Hollywood elite" believe the scientific evidence.
A reporter from Der Spiegel told the senator, "You're ridiculous."
Soon after, Inhofe dashed back to the airport for the nine-hour flight back to D.C., having accomplished nothing.
If he wasn't such a dangerous clown, and the most ridiculous senator of his generation, I might even feel sorry for the guy.

This made my day!!! Inhofe is an embarrassment to the US and the US Senate. I hope Europeans don't judge us by his idiocy.

If by going Inhofe let some foreign reporters see for themselves just what Obama and the Democrats are up against, it's a net plus. I'm sure they know the Republicans are crazy on the subject, and perhaps they know that Inhofe's the worst, but I do hope his appearance will create even just a bit more space for Obama to get acceptance from foreign leaders and press that the offer on hand is the best the President can give.

Did he make this heroic trip on the taxpayer's dime? If so, someone should bring that up for FoxNews discussion.

A reporter from Der Spiegel told the senator, "You're ridiculous."
And he wasn't done yet, because after that the Spiegel reporter wrote an article with the (translated) headline "The Dinosaur from the Bushocaen"

A mild mannered reporter from a large metropolis newspaper told the senator, "You're ridiculous."
Who disguised as a serious senator did what Roosevelt never did with his silly chickens in every pot . Inhofe (putz) puts egg on the face of every reasonable American past , present , and future .
Now thats a mans putz (puts)

Where can I find details on this flight? Did he fly commercial or some taxpayer-provided air transport? What was the total cost of flying Dimhoff and some aides there and back?

If a cracker crumbles in front of a few aides and a single reporter, will anyone notice the crumbs?

If he paid for the trip himself maybe he did it for the frequent flyer miles? Otherwise the trip makes no sense, like Inhofe most days.

As it turned out I would have happily taxpayer financed that trip. What a tool!

I hate to admit this. I am from Oklahoma and have 2 of the worst Senators in the Senate. I am so bummed and literally thinking of moving out of Oklahoma where I was born just so as not to be tarred with the same brush as these Jackasses.
Coburn acts as a go between to pay off Mistresses of other Senators and says women going to the bathroom with each other promotes lesbianism and Inhofe ........ well he's just a moron. Forgive us for inflicting these two jackasses on the American people.
I could just cry. :-(

Republicans of course consider such forms of "opposing our CIC in time of war" to be treasonous, yet consider it their duty. I have never seen such shitty, hypocritical double-talkers anywhere.

And how exactly would this differs from a honest assessment of Obama's trip? LOL
For Conservatives, he's the gift that keeps on giving. Destroying liberals' long cherished policy dreams of nationalized health care and stopping man-made global "climate change"; making the Democrats toxic to moderates and independents in all those GOP leaning districts and being completely clueless as to how jump start the economy apart from more brain dead "stimulus spending." Not bad for the first year of on the job training. ;-P
Merry Christmas to you all.

Has there been any better one-liner illustrating the utter pointlessness of the American press? If there has, I'd love to see it....

Clearly we need to import some German reporters or start an exchange program. Far too many of ours are worthless.

It made my day as well.
I hope Europeans don't judge us by his idiocy.
Sadly, they do. As a former ex-pat, I can tell that the Euros often judged us by the people we elected who are just not the smartest and certainly are the most ignorant people around - Ronnie Reagan, both Bushes, Dan Quayle, Jesse Helms, Schwarzenegger, etc., etc. I routinely, had to point out that, yes, there actually is a majority of people in the U.S. who don't walk around with a bible under their arm and act like the preacher dad from Footloose
For shits and giggles, just flip back and forth from CNN to CNN International to BBC World News (I have all three on my teevee) and see how the media treats people in power, especially conservatives.

I think the trip was worthwhile. A German reporter told Inhofe he is ridiculous. Of course, he is, but no American reporter would ever say it to his face. Maybe he will wonder if Americans also think he is ridiculous.

Per usual, Chicounsel, you show yourself to be an igonorant douche. LOL
If by "brain dead" you mean EFFECTIVE, then you are right on. The Stimulus spurred growth by as much as 3.2% and created or saved as many as 1.6 million jobs according to multiple independent analyses, including the CBO. I know it is hard to admit when you are wrong and so you just pull pure bs from your rear. You have nothing else. It's ok, we know how you and your ilk roll. Reality has a liberal bias and it is hard to face facts with your head inserted firmly in your right-wing reactionary butt.;P
Happy Holidays, Chicounsel.

"Special" as in "special education"? Too bad that, in his case, it doesn't have to be very successful.

Inhofe tried to hide the decline in the number of people who care what he thinks.
He's also homogenizing his poll numbers.
Posted by: Macgruber on December 18, 2009 at 2:52 PM | PERMALINK
Inhofe is ridiculous, all right.
But meanwhile in Copenhagen, the Powers That Be are struggling to agree on GHG emissions reductions that are already known to be inadequate to limit the global temperature increase (from pre-AGW levels) to 2 degrees Celsius, an increase that is already known to be too high to avoid catastrophic effects (this being self-evident given that catastrophic effects are already occurring as a result of the anthropogenic warming that has already occurred).
That's even more ridiculous.

I really think there should be a pool formed to purchase carbon offsets for his trip, if for no other reason than it would infuriate him & his supporters. Looks like the only damage worth correcting was environmental, anyway.

Oh cut it out! Even I don't feel sorry for him. He was unprepared, and the reporter for Der Spiegel was correct. "The science is not settled", but AGW is not a hoax: lots of scientists believe in AGW.
That wasn't the most farcical event of the Copenhagen meeting. My nominee for the most farcical event was the ovation given to Hugo Chavez; a close second was the attendance of Robert Mugabe. With those two guys on scene, any sensible politician would stay away.

Chicounsel, well said.
The net effect of Obama's speech in Copenhagen will be to reduce American support for cap-and-trade.

Inhofe was interviewed by the BBC World Service this morning. My local NPR affiliate airs the BBC from 9-10 am, so I had the singular pleasure of choking on my Cheerios as Inhofe went into his spiel of half truths & outright lies. He even went as far as calling Obama a "liar" because he couldn't promise the US would agree to any terms coming out of Copenhagen because he, The Great & All Powerful Inhofe, had the power to block the bill all by himself ! The BBC interviewer was respectfully skeptical & unabashedly amused.

If the networks wanted to do the country some real good, they'd have a 30 second "dumbest senator of the week" segment on every Friday's evening news broadcast.
Of course, there would be so many Republican senators competing that they'd have to consider doing it nightly.
Never mind Lieberman getting counseling, could someone test McCain for Parkinsons? That man isn't normal.
